So I've got my warden and I'm really just soloing a lot, but in Angmar I see there are a lot of group quests.
I just tried doing the bloodwing (drakes) quest with one other person. A Champion I believe. It was clear we could've used a little more dps..and we weren't able to complete it with just us 2.
Anyway - with my limited tanking experience, I was just going in tank stance and spamming the gambits that start with the fist. (goad, etc). And the healing gambits when my health was getting low.
I know this is probably just a bad idea - so do you have any pointers on how to do some general group quest tanking at that level? I got the aoe taunt but I don't have the legendary slot for it, so that's out for now. Thank ye.
Use shield gambits like shield mastery (shield+spear+fist+shield) or celebration of skill (shield+spear+shield+spear(not e use the first 3 or 2 in combo for other healing effects)) to boost block and evade stats and healing. Use fierce resolve (fist+spear+shield) to get agro and get healing on yourself. On one enemy just use power attack or boar's rush.
I was using fist gambits for aggro purposes. How do you balance the two? Is there any sort of threat meter in this game?
"Show my target's target" or whatever the option is called. If it's facing you you have enough threat, if it's not you don't
But seriously, nope there is no way to measure threat progress other than trial and error. If you use Battle Prep to set up defenses before the fight, then you should have time to lock down aggro before having to worry about anything else. Shield Mastery and Dance of War are usable outside combat.
Not all fist gambits generate threat, by the way. War Cry and Goad work, but Fierce Resolve doesn't. Well, it generates some because it does damage and healing, but not pure threat the way other skills do. If your DPS buddy/buddies are focused on one target, hit it a couple of times with with Spear of Virtue if you're 46+ or Piercing Strike if not before you focus on generating more AoE threat. This will help lock it down, and hopefully the rest will be stuck to you once the first target is dead.
Eventually threat gets much easier when you get Exultation of Battle, but before then you just need practice and a patient group.
First thing, for Bloodwing, bring a healer with you. Angmar used to be "end game" level and it still shows. Other areas like Eregion and Dunland were cake for me. Angmar, let's just call that the "dying" period lol. I think I was annihilated more times than any other region in the game there. I was able to do okay (even soloing the Elite Masters) but some of the quests were just impossible without a healer and some extra DPS. I finally took down Bloodwing at around level 52 and that was with a 40ish RK and a high 40's Cap with us.
It's one of those areas that it's a lot of fun if you have a group of 3 or 4 to go out "fellowing".
