    Inactive Character Deletion

    Hey folks,

I started LOTRO on launch around June of 2008, but quit about 6 months in. Seeing the game launch on steam had me thinking about trying it again, and after a huge search(You can't locate a "forgot username/password button unless you actually download the game on the launcher) I finally found my old account details and was able to log in. Sadly, my old hunter is long gone, as I'm aware of Turbine's horrid ToS regarding inactive accounts. Any possiblities of regaining the character, or is it removed from the database for good?

Now, I've not kept up with the game, so if there was a wipe or re-launch then this doesn't really feel as bad, but if it is just an account inactivity punishment for not playing in 4 years, seems a bit eh. Any help appreciated!

From my understanding, if you had an account with Codemasters (EU), you needed to migrate your characters over to Turbine sometime last year. If you didn't, then you can't get those characters back.

If you did not have a Codemasters account then I can't give anymore insight.

Turbine doesn't delete characters, ever. If you can't find yours, you're probably either looking in the wrong server or your account was compromised.

Or there may be other reasons if you were on Codemasters, who ran the old European servers.

(LOTRO launched in April of 2007. Did Codemasters launch at the same time, or in June '08?)

Sorry for the confusion, the account was launched in 2008. I completely forgot that CM was in charge back then. I'm still searching around the account page for my character. When I select a "world" when logging in, are my characters bound to a seperate world or would I be able to access them across all realms?

I'm also a U.S player, so I'm not sure if CodeMasters affected me.

Your characters are on one world only, so you have to choose the same one where you'd created them.
I'll echo what Frisco said: "Turbine doesn't delete characters, ever." I'm not sure what "horrid ToS" you are referring to. Maybe you are thinking of another company?

If you are a U.S. player and had the account with Turbine (likely) and not with Codemasters in the EU, the migration does not affect you.

Characters only exist on the one world on which they were created.

On the top of forum, there is long string of various places you can go. Select one named "characters" - it will show all characters on your account, what class/level they are, and most importantly, on what server they are.

Thank you, Turbine, for listening and giving us an opt-out of FE! Good work!

I believe that inactive characters used to be deleted, but that is no longer the case since the launch of F2P. However, I don't believe that there is any way for you to reclaim your lost hunter.

    Edit: Sorry, I was wrong.

Characters have never been deleted for inactivity. Not before F2P, not after. If the OP had a Turbine account and not Codemasters, the most likely case here is that the wrong server was chosen at login and the characters are on a different server.
