OK, I am lvl 56, and I have over 50 gold, I don't own a house, and I seem to be making more than I spend pretty consistantly. Do I need this gold for something later in the game?
I am spending it on gear in the AH, bought a goat for 5G. Just wondering if you more advanced players can fill me in. I feel like money is pretty easy, so I have been spending it pretty freely, just want to make sure I don't need it for something down the road!!
PS, thanks in advance, everyone is very helpful on these mass posts.
Mr. Ed
Gold is easy to come by. Some people love to spend it, and others hoard it. I have had 200 gold before, without thinking it. I have made 60 gold in one day, as well.
Things to spend it on:
1. If you're buying armor and stuff in the ah, then maybe you'll want to buy legendary weapons as the game goes on. If you can craft legendary weapons, then you can also buy the rare symbol to make said weapon. Level 65 symbol of Celebrimbor goes for 20-30 gold, Worn Symbol of Celebrimbor goes from 30-50 gold (level 75). Also, crafted relics cost some decent cash, unless you're in a kin.
2. Better armor is more expensive. Up until Moria (level 50ish) armor is cheap to come by in ah, as well as other on-level commodities. Buying guild armor could be expensive, as well as jewelry.
3. Buy rep items... rep items net you turbine points which offers a new venue of spending money. I can easily sell 50 +700 rep increase items for about 15-20 gold. It takes over 100 of those to get kindred (and also cumulatively 50tp!)
4. I will put buy a house here... but seeing as you're level 56 and don't have one suggests that you don't need the storage space. I cannot fathom this, lol, as I have all 110 shared storage slots unlocked, a deluxe house with both storage chests and eight toons each with maxed vault space (pretty much filled to the brim with stuff).
Where do I spend the most money? Buying crafting components/resources. As a kin officer, I make a lot of stuff for a lot of different people. This always seems to cost me a ton of money, but hey, what's it for anyhow? I don't have the time to go searching for all the resources, so it works out nice.
I loved being able to get my two legendary weapons at the drop of a hat by going to the ah, dropping 80 gold and getting worn symbols for the 2nd aged bow and sword for my hunter (ugh, my sword was a dud, but not the bow!)
If I were you, I'd run a few GS instances to see if you can get a level 60 2nd age... if not, it helps to have a 2nd or 1st age weapon along the way, trust me. Buy one at 65 (and do the epic Chapter four quest for the other 2nd age) and another at 75 (and another epic quest for the rare symbol for your second 2nd age)
The only thing you WILL need gold for if you dont own a house or kinhouse is ..... REPAIRS
For the most part the only other things you will need to pay for are Travel and crafting items.
You will also notice people want as much gold as they can get so they put items on the AH at extortionate prices
Everything you see on the AH is freely available in the game, if you want to spend time getting them.
My Main is a lvl 75 Hunter, he has 32g on him and I make enough to keep my repairs, house AND Kinhouse upkeep
I dont see the point in paying over the odds for stuff
Another important thing (if you are into min/maxing), creating 1 Tier 8 relic from combining Tier 1 and up costs a bit over 11 gold. So if you plan on getting the best relics for your LIs when you hit max level, you'll need gold for that as well.
Then of course as everyone else said, crafting if you want and rep stuff can get expensive. Guess it just depends on what you want to do when you level all the way up, at lvl 75 stacks of food, potions, class consumables, etc...all run multiple gold, so if you are running instances, etc where you need all that...it's another need for gold as well.
Then there are vanity items you might want (I collect horses) that could cost a bit, etc, etc, etc..
I had several hundred gold and blew it all on stat tomes. They usually sell for 30-50 g each on my server. About the only usefulish thing I can think of that costs that much.
