Hi, the name's Alex:-) I'm a new player to LOTRO (downloaded it yesterday, eeeech) however I've done a few other MMO's such as SWTOR and the dreaded WOW but I'm stumped, I've investigated all the classes and races and decided I'm going to make a Dwarven Guardian but I have little patience and to be perfectly honest I have no idea what I'm doing. Could I perhaps have any assistance from you hardcore fanatics?
The first thing you need to do is complete the intro. This will give you a general feel for the class you chose. If you enjoy crafting in other games its a good idea to pick a crafting vocation early and level it as you level your charater. Armorer and Armsman, are the two best for a new player who has a guardian as their first charater. Armorer will allow you to make the heavy armor you will start using at lvl 15 and Armsman will allow you to make weapons which are always important so look over the list and I suggest you pick one or the other.
Up to lvl 20 dont worry to much about having top end equipment. You will level to quickly for it to be worth the bother of replacing quest items with anything other then what you craft yourself.
Keep an eye on the regional chat for kinship information and join one that sounds like a good fit. Remember if it turns out its not what you are looking for you can always leave later. Ask the person spamming chat a few basic questions about kinship size, goals such as role playing social or raiding and what time zone the majority of the members are on. Its nice to have an active kinship to ask for help when your new to the game.
Dont spend a lot of money until you reach at least lvl 25 maybe even lvl 32, when you reach the end of the free content. Other then purchasing the riding skill there is nothing you need before lvl 32. Once you have completed the Lone Lands quest area you need to decide if you want to go VIP or premium and purchase quest packs. Do a forum search on this there are a lot of post to help you decide.
Players in LOTRO are for the most part very friendly so feel free to ask questions in the occ and regional chats. You should get good advice.
Most important thing to remember is to have fun its a game after all.

So after level 32 as you say, there is no more quests to do and you have to purchase them?
correct, however you can purchase quest packs and other stuff form the ingame store with turbine points you earn ingame for each deed you complete
after level 32ish without quest pakcs\expansions youll have not a lot else to do for XP other than killing mobs and a few daily tasks both of which are the slowest way of gaining XP.. you will be able to follow the epic storyline quests which will give you XP as well but these wont give you enough XP alone to gain levels and there will be times when your level is to low to follow the epic line

Hm, that's dissapointing but what can you expect really. I'm going to make the account now and do the Prologue questline and then focus more on the RP aspect.

not sure in what aspect its disappointing, turbine let you play the game 100% free and give you the ability to earn turbine point so you can buy extra quest packs and content without actually needing to pay anything, is a case of if you want to go the free way you need to spend time grinding deeds... no game im aware off or woth playing at least, give you everything for free
most f2p games you have no other choice but to spend real world cash if you want to progress beyond a certain point or to remove restritions which makes the game practaly pointless after a certain level
