just wondered if ppl are having the same problem as I am with tracking.
When I track I get my red dot in my mini-map, sometimes it takes up to 10 secs to select the target, also if what I track is outside my mini-map, then I cant select it at all, it says `target is out of range` , now I understand that I cannot hit the target, but surely if I can track it I should be able to select it, I know I used to be able to select anything I tracked, irrelevant of distance.
Does anyone know if this is a bug, or WAI as it has been changed ??

Server lag. Yes it's pretty annoying, not sure if they can fix it.

WAI imho. You cannot target something you cannot see/reach in game normally.

I think you can select a target up to 80m. Obviously 40m to engage. And, I think the improved tracking provides 120m radius? I'm not a 100% on those numbers.
I also know that if I'm beyond 80m away, get a target on track, click to select that target, and am unable.... ALL while I have a teammate who is closer, that teammate can target through me even when I cannot bring up the target on target assist for myself. Maybe I should detail that out more.

2. Get tracking target up on minimap
3. Attempt to select target. Cannot select.
4. Assist target for me does not show that I have the enemy selected.
5. My teammate who is close and within range to select sees that I have something targetted even though I don't see it.
6. Teammate can select target through me even though I cannot bring them up on assist target for myself.
That "lag" happen everytime, I believe it is normal design of the tracking skill.
In PvmP, if the target is checking regularly his log (and know what does means "You feel followed ..."), he usually have enough time to react and go far away.
And even if he don't see it and he's moving, that few seconds of delay may bring him out of selection range.
Mazaukal scored a hit with a weak swipe attack on Mellinareth for 11,052,676 Common damage to Morale. Weak ? duh
I reckon the lag is more a server or clientside lag thing rather than something put into the moors deliberately to delay the track itself.
The target selecting is really annoying. I have more an issue when selecting a target but no target info showing on your hud apart from the circle around the tracked opponent. That stays the same until the foe or youself are defeated so you might not know about the health of your target unless you have the raid assistance tab up in a group. Solo of course this does not work. I guess this is to prevent working target forwarding so that another player can not damage the target that is still stealthed for him.
On the whole the system intself seems laggy, clumsy and a bit buggy too. Basically undynamic, the story of the hunter I guess. Of course creeps suffer from this too. Should be worth looked into though there are way more pressign issues.

I rode to the front of TR, dismounted, tracked for nature which it was all clear, started to mount, and was pounced by 4 wargs.
That's heightened senses for you. 150m are not all that much, a distance easily bridged within a couple of seconds by a sprinting warg.
Same with close targets until they are fully visible to you on the map they are most likely out of range already or right by pouncing you.

Yes I did while tracking. Between tracking clear and then trying to mount (takes 2 sec to mount and I immediately mounted right after tracking) I was pounced by the wargs. So apparently wargs can go supersonic. And for 4 wargs to do it coordinated at once is just omg.
As for the lag in the red dot showing up and being able to click on the tracked target I dont think it used to be this bad, it has gotten worse with each update.
Thought often gets in the way of truth. Pain clears the mind of thought.
