    How Long Till the End

Just started playing when lotro hit steam and really like the game so far. Just curious/want some opinions on how long the game will last. From reading the forums it sounds like other games Turbine has made have eventually shut down. Understandable if a game reaches the end of it's life cycle. So how long do you think this game will be around?

They have the LOTR licence until 2017 and I believe an option to extend it even further so the game should be around for a long time. The first game that Turbine made, Asherons Call, is still going and getting updates.

The only Turbine game that was shut down was Asheron's Call 2 and it was shut down mostly due to game-breaking issues that went on for a long time and cause it to lose too many subscribers. The original Asheron's Call, DDO and LotRO are still going pretty strongly.

As has been said above Turbine has the license to use the Lord of the Rings up till 2017 with the option to extend. The way things are looking it should make it that far fairly easily. While there have been some ups and downs with population there has never been a server merge or closure and now with LotRO on Steam there seems to be a new large influx of players. There should be another one when the Hobbit movies come out assuming Turbine/WB do some good advertising.

My guess is when we finally get to the Mordor expansion we'll probably have the largest population ever, at least temporarily.
