Lotro not starting after entering password and click on subscription

    Hi there,

    i bought a notebook recently:

    Intel® Core™ i7-3610QM Prozessor (bis 3,3 GHz), Quad-Core
39,6 cm (15") Full HD 16:9 LED Display (matt), Webcam
8 GB RAM, 750 GB Festplatte, DVD Brenner
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M Grafik (2048 MB), HDMI, USB 3.0, WLAN-n, BT
    2,4 kg, Akkulaufzeit bis 3 h, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
Gamer und Entertainer in Perfektion mit Core i7 (Ivy Bridge), Gaming-Grafik GT650M + mattes Display!

After installing the game and running it the first time, i have a problem with starting the game.

During first adjustments, i have been testing several resolutions (1068 X xxx and so on.), high an ultra-high graphics, DirectX 9/10/11 and so on in the graphics adjustments. Sometimes you have to restart the game, so that the changes become active.

After doing so 2 or three times, the game does not start anymore after: Starting the launcher -> entering passord -> choose server -> choose subscription -> enter. After one second, the launcher stops/disconnects. I can click again on the launcher and have to enter my password again (and again ...)

    What could i do:
    - Un-/reinstall the game?
    - Update direct x?
    - Update graphics driver?
    - ?

    - LOTRO on my other system still runs without problems, so there is everything fine with the account.
    - I tried launcher/invoker ...
    - I did not change any graphics adjustments or any other adjustments on the system (lotro was the first installation on the new system)

I am glad to hear comments and suggestions! Thanks in advance!

PS Playing since 5 years, so i am a bit familiar with the adjustment system (though no it expert ...)

It sounds like in your process of experimentation, you accidentally chose a graphics setting that is preventing the game client itself from starting.

Since the client was able to start before, you can reset the graphics settings to their defaults using the game's launcher. To do so:
    1. Click the single downward pointing arrow button in the launcher.
    2. Choose Options.
    3. Click on the Repair tab.
    4. Check the box labeled Reset the game display settings.
    5. Click the OK button.
    6. Proceed to log in as usual.

if the game was working previously and you were changing your setting before the game finaly broke and if the repair option by itself does not work browse to (my)documents\the lord of the rings online and find userpreferences.ini, delete the file then use the repair option again from the launcher tbh this isnt realy needed but the turbine techs recommend it..

next time the game starts it will re-detect all your hardware and reset everything to the default values.

if your changing the ingame resolution id avise not increasing the settings to anything above your monitors naitive resoluton, this will be shown as the recommended resolution in windows. if you select a resolution which is not supported by your monitor\gpu this could cause problems. idealy you should set lotros resolution to your naitive resolution or bellow if your finding it hard to see the UI items and\or to improve performance

if you can rememeber which setting you last changed before lotro failed to start then errrr try not to make that change again

if the game broke after switching to dx11 update your graphics drivers

Thanks a lot Finglonger_UK! That worked (When i knew ia was playing around again of course, and then the error did not appaear again, which is strange but hey, it is fine now.).

PS Deinstalling in the first place did not help ...
