[Summer Fun 2012] Gladden (Fields) Scavenger Hunt, Saturday July 14
The "Band of the Fallen Lotus" presents the Gladden (Fields) Scavenger Hunt!
We hope you will join us for the event!
Additional prizes supplied by Turbine! (Thanks Turbine!!)
The scavenger hunt will take place on the Gladden server TWICE on Saturday, July 14!
Once at 4 PM Server Time (EDT) and once at 10 PM Server Time (EDT)
We hope this schedule can accommodate those from various geographies.
For clarity: Prizes are awarded independently for each run (4 PM and 10 PM)
Overall Schedule of Events:
Start Time is 4 PM or 10 PM Server Time (EDT) (Please budget 90 minutes for the event)
All communication (start announcement, time warnings, list of items, etc.) for all aspects of the scavenger hunt will take place in the user channel "scavenger". You may use the commands "/joinchannel scavenger" and "/leavechannel scavenger" to join and leave the channel.
After consideration of the results of the 4PM run of the scavenger hunt, we are changing the rules for the 10 PM hunt. It will now be a cooperative scavenger hunt. Here's how it will work:
1) At the beginning of the scavenger hunt, 5 items will be placed into the scavenger channel to be solved.
2) Every time an item is solved, a new item will be added to the list (thus there are always 5 items to be solved)
3) Each participant that adds useful information to solving a riddle gets a point for that item. Please use the channel, I will ask that tells with information or guesses be placed into the scavenger channel.
4) With at least 3 votes of "yes" from participants on the scavenger channel, an item can be skipped and a new item will be added in place of that riddle. Can be vetoed if the group is making progress on the item.
5) The person who actually links the appropriate item into the scavenger channel gets 3 points for that item (not cumulative to the 1 point from #3 above)
6) The more items the entire group solves, the more prizes everyone wins!
7) Grand prize to the person with the most points at the end of the scavenger hunt: 500 TP (provided by Turbine) + 8 in-game gold + your choice of one of 7A, B, C, D, or E:
7A) Greater Scroll of Empowerment
7B) Greater Scroll of Delving
7C) 50 Sealed Minor Symbols of Morale (over 3,000 relic shards)
7D) 35K Reputation for a faction where rep items are barterable with skirmish vendor (double for Bree or Shire)
7E) 5 Fused Aged Relics
8) Second prize: 500 TP (provided by Turbine) + 3 in-game gold + one of 8A, B, C, D, or E
8A) Scroll of Empowerment
8B) Scroll of Delving
8C) 20 Sealed Minor Symbols of Morale (over 1250 relic shards)
8D) 14K reputation for a faction where rep items are barterable with skirmish vendor (double for Bree or Shire)
8E) 20 Sealed Copper Relics
9) Third Prize: 500 TP (provided by Turbine) + 1.5 in-game gold + one of 9A, B, C
9A) 15 Sealed Minor Symbols of Morale
9B) 10.5K reputation for a faction where rep items are barterable with skirmish vendor (double for Bree or Shire)
9C) 15 Sealed Copper Relics
10) A random participant (must have at least 1 point) will also be awarded a Perlino Steed (account-wide)
11) All participants with at least one point will receive legendary relics based on their relative contribution to the total number of points. I expect to spend approximately 250 Marks on relics for each item solved by the group. Solve at least 10 items as a group and I'll distribute at least 1 Fused Deep Relic.
12) Event lasts for one hour from when we get started (after I re-explain the rules on the scavenger channel at 10 PM)

Reason: Change of Rules for 10 PM run of event
1) This item isn't honest. (be prepared to explain why)
2) This item seems redundant. (be prepared to explain why)
3) Until you see this item, you might think someone could store something in it, but no such luck (once you see it, you know you can't, so no containers, please)
4) The true definition of a gold sink (no purpose, just loss of money). Kind of the right color, too.
5) There were no Apollo missions, but Middle Earth still has this.
6) Pipes are for smoking and these are for drinking
7) This is the item that told you that (#6)
8) I can take you to a place with a stable, but no swift travel.
9) I stand _HERE_, looking down upon the peoples of the city... and why is the only thing I can think of a fillet?
10) This resource (green-background item) is made for the crafting XP. Because after that, it's vendor trash.
11) Daddy Twofoot's neighbor would be the leading authority on the FINEST of these.
12) A symbol of royalty on the wrong part of the body
13) Assuming it wasn't traded, this item is incontrovertable proof you either advanced a slayer deed or have already completed an advanced slayer deed in Bree-land
14) 2 Fragments of Dunedain Script + 1 Glass Phial delivers it to your enemies, but this item delivers it to your tummy.
15) This cooking item is not fresh, and admits it. (No vendor purchased items please)
16) One ring to rule them all... To live like a Dwarf-lord, a burglar would put this in his house. No metalsmith required.
17) All other things being equal, with better power and armour than Loyalty 2, in a convenient dwarven package.
18) Given their reputation and love for certain things (6 per day!), you'd think you could learn to make this item in The Shire... but this item to provide the first (and perhaps second one) is actually from Bree-land.
19) This (non-legendary) club directly offsets a Dwarf being Stocky.
20) I was upstairs at my house, and got an inspiration. I needed a gift made. So I ran out, got this from the local vendor, and stopped by the kin house on my way out of town to mail it to my woodworker friend so she could learn to make an item for me.
21) This will help your friends with Danghal but not Sulmog
22) Somebody really should put one of these on the Moria Keg...
23) This critical success item will only get you some more, never something better (regardless of profession or recipe that uses the critical success item).
24) You equipped this armour, but could still sell it on the Auction Hall.
25) This will help you avoid the thing about which the 'Hobbit coming of age' fortune warns you.
26) Her cloak was as strong as her boots, with perks to match. This item was just flat, less durable, softer, and she wore it on her back.
27) To get a Soldier's Golden Band, an Armsman who is still an outsider might ask another crafter for one of these.
28) You can get one of these when you honour the spirit of Bandoras Took
29) The goblins of the shire may leave you with an item showing a word for the lesser. Galadreil's reward shows the word for the greater. As for the word's use on this resource? That answer is lost to the mists of time.
30) Two crafters must share this non-metallic item (no one character [under any combination of skill and vocation] can use all recipes that require this item without changing vocations, and no two crafters [under any combination of skill and vocation] are in a relationship where one supplies this item to the other)
31) Just north of the sausage king, grab enough of a local drink to replace mugs tipped over on the floor of the home of a not-so-fabled brew. (1 point per drink, exact quantity required)
32) Everything about this item is completely ODD (one item only, value ignored, +1 each, no duplicates counted)
33) I have more hyphens than you do! (taunting voice required, one item only, one point per hyphen in the item name)
34) When searching for the ring, that which lies at the top of the dark tower of Mordor never needed to search at least one place where it could be raked. But you could rake in this item (worth 1 silver) if you risk such a threat.
SC) Again, that which lies at the top of the dark tower of Mordor is not unique. More lie in this Hobbit homestead, and this is the reward for completing the quest.
Spoilers (Intended and Alternate Solutions to the 4 PM items)
Warning: Spoilers on what the solutions were. Stop if you still want to figure them out on your own
1) This item isn't honest.
Original solution: Any item claiming to be turned in for tasks that can't actually be turned in for tasks
Alternate solution accepted: Giant Goldfish Trophy
2) This item seems redundant.
Original solution: Maps of Moria or Eriador, where the description text is awkward to the point of bordering on redundant
Also intended to dig a bit at creativity of folks, which I got.
Alternate answers: Barrow Brie (some others - folks got creative on this)
3) Until you see this item, you might think someone could store something in it, but no such luck (once you see it, you know you can't, so no containers, please)
Original solution: Bluebottle
Some alternatives were accepted, but I don't recall what
4) The true definition of a gold sink (no purpose, just loss of money). Kind of the right color, too.
This item is only used in a now defunct recipe (access to Expert cooking tier)
Solution: Jar of Vegetable Oil
5) There were no Apollo missions, but Middle Earth still has this.
Solution: Moonstone
6) Pipes are for smoking and these are for drinking
Solution: Apples (Shire Apple)
7) This is the item that told you that (#6)
Solution: Hard Cider, available from a Tavern Keep
8) I can take you to a place with a stable, but no swift travel.
Solution: Map to Duillond, among perhaps others (Othrikar)
9) I stand _HERE_, looking down upon the peoples of the city... and why is the only thing I can think of a fillet?
Solution: Perch (a fish)
10) This resource (green-background item) is made for the crafting XP. Because after that, it's vendor trash.
Solution: Iron Hilt (Weaponsmith) among potentially others. That component only goes into a recipe for a now defunct quest.
11) Daddy Twofoot's neighbor would be the leading authority on the FINEST of these.
Solution: Golder Shire Tater (FINEST is in the description).
Some participants noted apples should also be acceptable.
12) A symbol of royalty on the wrong part of the body
Solution: There are cloaks with crowns on the back (among potentially many other solutions)
13) Assuming it wasn't traded, this item is incontrovertable proof you either advanced a slayer deed or have already completed an advanced slayer deed in Bree-land
Solution: Iorvanth (sp?) and other spiders in Bree-land drop unique items (e.g. head) that would meet this item
14) 2 Fragments of Dunedain Script + 1 Glass Phial delivers it to your enemies, but this item delivers it to your tummy.
The recipe using the listed components can produce fire oil, so you are delivering fire to your enemies.
Solution: One of the brews (alcohol) has a description that delivers fire to your tummy (can't quickly find which one)
15) This cooking item is not fresh, and admits it. (No vendor purchased items please)
Solution: Allspice states it is dried.
16) One ring to rule them all... To live like a Dwarf-lord, a burglar would put this in his house. No metalsmith required.
"Seven for the dwarf lords in their halls of stone" (part of the one ring verse, hence the start of the riddle)
There are thus a number of solutions, the "burglar" (who uses marbles as a weapon) part tries to reduce this to...
Solution: Marble stone walls for a house
17) All other things being equal, with better power and armour than Loyalty 2, in a convenient dwarven package.
Solution: Thick Dwarf-make Iron Boots
18) Given their reputation and love for certain things (6 per day!), you'd think you could learn to make this item in The Shire... but this item to provide the first (and perhaps second one) is actually from Bree-land.
Solution: Breakfast Table Decoration Recipe (available only from Bill Twiggens in the homestead)
19) This (non-legendary) directly offsets a Dwarf being Stocky.
Solution: Etched Yew Club
20) I was upstairs at my house, and got an inspiration. I needed a gift made. So I ran out, got this from the local vendor, and stopped by the kin house on my way out of town to mail it to my woodworker friend so she could learn to make an item for me.
The primary hint here is "upstairs at my house" - the deluxe houses in Falathorn have an upstairs
Solution: Red Scholar's Bookshelf Decoration Recipe
21) This will help your friends with Danghal but not Sulmog
Both are signature creatures that can apply wounds, so you need to help friends (Get a salve, not a draught) and needs to be L40
Solution: Refined Healing Salve
22) Somebody really should put one of these on the Moria Keg...
Solution: Sign: Danger
23) This critical success item will only get you some more, never something better (regardless of profession or recipe that uses the critical success item).
Solution: Dim Candle
24) You equipped this armour, but could still sell it on the Auction Hall.
Solution: Any of the armour you start the game with (starting instance) is not bound
I accepted cosmetic items
25) This will help you avoid the thing about which the 'Hobbit coming of age' fortune warns you.
The fortune warns you about falling.
Solution: Bandages (aka Fall Injury Immunity)
26) Her cloak was as strong as her boots, with perks to match. This item was just flat, less durable, softer, and she wore it on her back.
Solution: Quilted Cloak
27) To get a Soldier's Golden Band, an Armsman who is still an outsider might ask another crafter for one of these.
Need rep in Lonelands, and you can craft to get rep, in the case of an Armsman, lure traps.
Solution: Bundle of Straw (from a Farmer)
28) You can get one of these when you honour the spirit of Bandoras Took
Solution: includes Bullroarer's brew, but there are like 5 things. Note the Wooden Keg is craftable and thus you don't have to have kept any items around
29) The goblins of the shire may leave you with an item showing a word for the lesser. Galadreil's reward shows the word for the greater. As for the word's use on this resource? That answer is lost to the mists of time.
The word is "Worn" (Worn Sword Sheath and Worn Symbol of Celebrimbor). Resources are green items
Solution: Worn Elf Carving
30) Two crafters must share this non-metallic item (no one character [under any combination of skill and vocation] can use all recipes that require this item without changing vocations, and no two crafters [under any combination of skill and vocation] are in a relationship where one supplies this item to the other)
Solution: Bottle of Water (Scholar and Cook). The complexity of the clue is a bit of red herring.
31) Just north of the sausage king, grab enough of a local drink to replace mugs tipped over on the floor of the home of a not-so-fabled brew. (1 point per drink, exact quantity required)
If you talk to citizens in Brockenborings, you will find Odo Proudfoot is the sausage king. Odo is in Frogmorton
There are 2 drinks (as I counted - some at the session said 3) on the floor of the Forsaken Inn
Solution: 2 Toad's Tongue Ale
32) Everything about this item is completely ODD (one item only, value ignored, +1 each, no duplicates counted)
Solution: Any item where the stats, durability, level limit, etc. are odd numbers, +5 to Agility, etc. etc. This could generate a bundle of points if done as I intended.
Alternates: Folks brought some weird non-stat items (Swill if I recall)
33) I have more hyphens than you do! (taunting voice required, one item only, one point per hyphen in the item name)
Solution: Various things, fortunes, &&&&-a-Leekie Soup (or the recipe)
34) When searching for the ring, that which lies at the top of the dark tower of Mordor never needed to search at least one place where it could be raked. But you could rake in this item (worth 1 silver) if you risk such a threat.
Craban can rake you, and the eye didn't NEED to search Ered Luin, since the ring started in the Shire and went East. The craban in Ered Luin drop among other things the 1 silver valued...
Solution: Cracked Beak
SC) Again, that which lies at the top of the dark tower of Mordor is not unique. More lie in this Hobbit homestead, and this is the reward for completing the quest.
Solution: 90c
