You are not required to play this game. If you are not satisfied with the service you are being provided, simply move on and find enjoyment somewhere else.
How did this thread take a turn for the worse? It started out with a light hearted dev post and turned into bickering about where the dev's priorities lie. Newsflash...I'm sure the development team does not spend every second of every work day working on the game. People are not robots. Sometimes you need to take a break and have a bit of fun. Not saying they goof off all day but I'm sure there's some down time every once in a while.
Oh good plan genius...if everyone who had a legitimate grievance with the game just up and left....where do you think the game would be right now...ill tell you shall i ?....it would be dead.
Players are passionate about the game...they have a very real and legitimate concern....threads like this and the complete lack of response to the lag thread gives the impression the devs are NOT passionate about the game or the community at all.
No one is begrudging the devs having a laugh and posting whatever they want, but at the same time they must front up to the hard questions as well....not doing so it a complete middle finger to all who are suffering under the crushing lag...i myself have had to shelve my warden for the for foreseeable future as gambits are near impossible to build properly.
Players are "hijacking" this thread because they simply cannot get an answer or even acknowledgment anywhere else....and in a community based game like this...that is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable...to be honest i would have been far to ashamed of myself to even think about starting this thread.
Look at all the Blue Name posts in this tread. Maybe some of this typing energy could be used to address any one of the various and sundry concerns and issues expressed by players that continually go unaddressed.
As is always the case, if they don't have anything to do with the particular issue and/or don't have any updates, then they don't post about it.

uhhhh... that's precisely what they were doing.
Look, none of us here that are having a bit of fun are saying we don't care about the bugs, lag, etc. I happen to trust that they're working on it and in the meantime, when they don't have anything note-worthy to announce about any of it, they're blowing off some steam by being a little silly.
In short: please don't pee in my Lucky Charms just because you're mad you had boring Corn Flakes this morning.
And who has now abandoned that thread, I guess to do fluff threads like this instead.
He didn't ABANDON it. He has nothing to report at the moment.Clearly the engineers, or whoever is working on the problem, are having a hell of a time with it. They know how frustrated people are. THEY KNOW. What more do you want?
I've been playing LotRO for almost five years. I've seen issues appear in the game that made it less playable, seen players go ballistic about the issues, and seen the issues eventually get fixed.
I'm one of the players experiencing the mysterious hitching/lag. I pre-purchased RoR knowing that Turbine will fix the issues as soon as they can pinpoint the problems and patch them. It benefits them financially to keep their customers happy so they will fix the issues like they always do.
Meanwhile, I am very glad to see Sapience posting fun stuff. We know he's keeping up with his personal messages, so he's not ignoring concerns. He's just able to multitask.
Shouldn't they be answering for all those problems in stead of this fluff thread?
What if they have no answers for those other threads? They should sit at their desks twiddling thumbs until there's something else to report from the devs? Maybe this thread was started during lunch hour (like I'm doing now). Maybe they like to laugh now and then even though some players may be incapable of seeing them as real people.

Mmmm.. sort of. Though a lot of the foot traffic by my desk is actually various devs, GMs, CS, and producers asking for input on assorted issues, player feedback, kicking around ideas, etc. Sometimes I get lucky like the last couple of days and I get to interact with people like Chance Thomas and put together a plan to get more of the soundtrack out to players (there's now a play list on our youtube channel that will be added to as we get closer to Riders of Rohan release). And of course there's a some jokes and fun thrown in there, too.

HA! I'm tempted to post a pic, if only to see the disappointment. I'm the Community Manager, not a dev. So while you might learn some of the things we (The community team) are kicking around and planning, you aren't going to find meaty developer secrets under that banner. Mostly it's brainstorming, and brain dumps.
That said, I'll give you a few of the items on the list.
The top line(first red asterisk) is about the Summer Community Organizer events we asked people to submit.
Near the bottom (last red asterisk) is an outline for developer diaries between now and launch.
There are 3-4 items about Beta
The very last item on the list is about putting soundtrack cuts out on our youtube channel.

For those who don't know I have a Darth Vader head candy dish on my desk. It has the amazing ability to attract people from all over the building. There is also a Jelly Belly Jellybean dispenser.

I enjoy posting fun stuff. Sometimes I see something and think, "hey, our players would like to see that." I try to sometimes post things that give you a feel for what it's like in the building. Maybe give you a feeling of being "inside" sometimes. In fact, one of those items on the mysterious whiteboard is an outline for how to do more of that. Both fun and meaningful.

If you're happy with the lag,the rubber-banding,the total raid wipes, the total lack of communication on anything of importance, the oh so many bugs then you good sir/madam are making the claim for me....thanks
What in the world does that have to do with this thread? CSR don't write code, they don't fix networking issues, they don't track down and squish bugs. The provide the bridge between us and the devs/bosses so the devs/bosses have time to do their work. Their sole purpose is to interact with the community and sometimes that means bringing us information when they have some and are given the ok to post it and sometimes that means having a little light-hearted fun to entertain us while we wait.
I mean if you're watching football and the players need a break to talk and regroup, should we cut out the half time show because it's not "football" and yell at the players to get back on the field?

What they don't realize is that not one dev posted in this thread, CSR's and QA, but no devs. Also I have seen Sapience post from home on many many occasions (he said so) so it's obvious that they love their job and this game too.

Wow... the notes from Chance Thomas are truly expansive on his work.
Thanks to both of you.
Keep up the good work, and maybe, just maybe you'll be able to put together another download package like was available from the old Turbine Download Manager... maybe? Hint! Hint!

Wow, major leak in that YouTube channel. "Boromir's Last Stand" The notes on it:
From Chance Thomas,
"This track was composed to underscore the Boromir game instance, with players taking on the role of Boromir as he battles hordes of Uruk Hai in a desperate attempt to save Merry and Pippin.
Boromir has his fatal flaw, as we all know. But this piece is not about that. This music is about Boromir at his most noble, determined and powerful. Big drums, epic choir, robust cadences and powerful statements in the brass all contribute to the feeling of strength and unwavering.
After the choir sings, the Gondor theme makes its final appearance in this expansion. It is a resigned and somewhat naked version (meaning the arrangement thins out considerably) to underscore the utter aloneness of this great warrior-steward in his final mêlée. It repeats with a bit of forlorn (trumpets and high strings) before giving out to the brutal force of ragged low brass as the battle rages to its infamous conclusion.
You may be interested to know what the choir is singing. The lyrics are in Old English, translated for me by Turbine's lore master Chris Pierson and his muse for all things Anglo-Saxon, professor Michael Drout of Wheaton College. The choir sings: Arë! Thrymnes! Fréot! Maegen! The translation is: Glory! Honor! Freedom! Power! These are virtues upon which Gondor was built and to which Boromir clings until his last breath."

This made the thread so much worth reading. Nice find!

I appreciate your "contribution" to the discussion. I have no problem with people airing their grievances with the game but this is not the thread to do it in. Just because there's CSR posts, does not mean people have the right to go completely off topic hijacking the thread to complain. There are lag threads out there. Post your grievances there. If you get no response, that most likely means there is nothing new to report. Do you expect Sapience to post updates daily about the lag issue. Would it make you feel better if he just said "There's nothing new to report today. We're still working on the issue."? Do you think Turbine forgot about the issue or is choosing to ignore the issue? The simple answer is, it'll be fixed when it's fixed. It sucks it's not fixed yet but it's obviously not an easy fix. I'm sure it'll be fixed in time. If not, people that are affected will leave and I'm sure Turbine does not want to lose business. If it was affecting my character, I'm sure I'd be impatient as well. But I would also realize there is nothing I can do about it so I'd just allow the process to happen and hope it got corrected sooner rather than later. Either way, the sun will still come up tomorrow.

Mmm Hmm... the candy dish tells me all... see... the office where I worked that was an indicator of naughtiness and things being discussed that were inappropriate for the work place! Hmm... sad thing was the candy dishes were at the Supervisor's desks... Something there to think about! LOL Have a great day Sapience!

Whoops. That video was intended to go live on Monday. However, due to an error, it was visible today. So... when we make it public again act surprised, ok?

I used to play on a Dell XPS Studio 16 before I built my rig last year. So, plenty of people.
That laptop played the game beautifully. Obviously, I prefer to use my stationary rig for LOTRO, since the laptop isn't anywhere near as powerful, and it didn't come with a directx11 capable gfx card, but still, it was still capable of running LOTRO on High.

Sure bugs and lags are fixed by community managers hanging out in certain threads.
Haters become more and more ridiculous and boring.
What do you call someone who's hating on the haters?

"There's nothing new to report today. We're still working on the issue."?
Guess what? When I was still developing apps, we would do exactly this for our customers. And you know what? Several over the years went out of their way to tell me how much they appreciated it, and that it was one simple thing that set us above our competitors. The era of faceless monoliths doing as they like and the customer has no voice is over. This is the age of social media, and the consumer has become an active stakeholder with a voice. There is no shortage of companies that have failed as they missed that change and their competitors did not.
Do you think Turbine forgot about the issue or is choosing to ignore the issue?
Actually, yes, I do. Draigoch -- there were a couple of attempts to fix it. No success. They still have provided no guidelines as to what the issue is or how to get around it. There are players who can not run it because it will bug 3 out of 5 times. There are players for whom it has never bugged. After the last fix failed there has not been a single comment from any member of Turbine's staff. They have "fixed" it through two simple facts -- one, almost all players who want stuff out of it have gotten it. Two, players who can not reliably complete it have stopped trying out of frustration. And yeah, it's still available for purchase.
A very simple, clearly worded "hey guys we know it's still bugged and we're working on it" would show players that there is an end in sight. Without that, compounded by experiential learning, we are left with no reason to believe there is.

June 2013, no active characters. I'll return if the fun again outweighs the grind.
I think this is the most epic thread ever. It's had:
The banner
The most detailed discussion of a CM's fanny I've ever seen in any gaming forum
Candy
Darth Vader
Music
A dissertation on Dell computers (note: I played LOTRO on one for five years just fine, tyvm)
References to Willy Wonka, Debbie Downer, and the Hulk
Sapience saying "whoops", and
what appears to be a really awesome headset
That qualifies it for a high rating in my book!
INORITE? It kept me entertained all day at work! (I used a Dell laptop for 3 years and an even older, non-gaming Dell laptop for a year before that one, on verrrrrrrry low settings.)

Well you at least made a good argument so I'll give you that. But we are both off topic. This isn't a thread about bugs, lag, or lack of communication.
Looking forward to that video on monday cause I didn't get a chance to see it today.
