    New Player with a question

Hi my son and I just started playing this game a couple days ago. We want to play as a duo so
I was wondering what might be some effective duo combinations. Right now we are playing a champion
    and a minstrel. Thanks!

    Duo Combo

Champ-Mini is a good combo, one to damage/tank, the other to heal/damage.

Hunters are always fun to run around with as they make killing quick, just beware aggro issues.

Since most landscape stuff isn't too difficult, there isn't a real "make or break" paring. Just be warned: as you progress, some things are solo only, so be prepared and able to handle stuff on your own.

My wife and I play together (Me: Champ; Her: Hunter), and it makes the game so much more fun.

I usually advise people to just play the classes that they think they will enjoy. It makes the game more fun individually, so you won't get frustrated, and any pair of classes is going to be workable in most content.

I duo-ed in a minstrel-champion pair for a while, and it was a lot of fun. We enjoyed experimenting with different ways to play: the champ would try to tank, and I would see how much I could heal or do damage before drawing aggro; or we would both go all-out dps and laugh at the enemies getting confused and not knowing which of us to target. It was good practice for me (as the minstrel) to start getting an idea of when I needed to drop to healing, and how much damage I could recover from without letting either of us die.

So if you want to experiment with different pairings go for it, but I'd say the characters you have already will work fine. The fun part is discovering the game together.
My characters are listed at my lotro-wiki page.

since the entire landscape is easily solo'd any combination you wish to play together will work just fine.

I'm the minstrel which seems fun, but the lore master looks fun I may try that and see
what he wants to do with that one. Cool game we like it so far. Great atmosphere.

Duo-ing is a lot of fun. My husband and I run as a hunter/guardian combo. We've also done lore master/champion combo and liked that too. He runs hunter/burglar with a friend of ours as well.

I think you can run with most combinations - it's nice to have a dps class and one that can heal, but it doesn't have to be that way.

    Glad you're enjoying the game.

Duos make landscape so much easier, particularly in areas where there are Elites and higher that regularly roam the landscape, such as the Trollshaws. Some areas are still tough for a single Champ to just run in and SHING to their heart's content.

Yet the most important part about having a regular duo is that you get very used to working with others. Even if you don't run regular instances as you level, it will still give you a leg up on the rest of us who DO solo everything and don't group unless it's a higher level Kinnie clearing the way for us.

Any duo is just fine, really. Even minstrel-minstrel or burglar-burglar. Play classes you are interested in and you'll figure it out.

Any duo would work very well.

Even two of the same class would be good because you could share playing tips [although IMO two guardians would be a little tedious].

If both players were taking a reasonably active interest in gear/crafting, I might be tempted to streamline things a little by having a pair of light or medium armour wearing characters [i.e. two from hunter, minstrel, LM, RK, burglar, warden] with one tailor & one jeweler. But this is a matter of opinion & at most a nice to have rather than necessary.

Something that might be nice would be for you both to create two toons [giving you, say, one healer, one DPS, one tank, and one utility class] and each spend a little bit of time with all of them for at least a couple of levels.

Welcome to Lotro - so cool you're doing the duo thing with your son!

Depending on his skillz, he may want a Hunter. Less mouse-a-jutsu, more just point and click - but whatever works best, literally. If he can handle it, then rock on.

I find LoreMaster a lot of fun (and not as complex as a Minstrel to start) - and in some ways like a Hunter - a lot of long-range blast'em attacks. A LM can heal some, but the problem of aggro is still there. However, I've heard of teams of 2 minstrels or 2 burglars do great work (in the hands of experienced Players) - it's as much the Player as the Character choice in Lotro.
