Just for the record, it is now possible to do the room with all the adds at the same time (with a level 75 warden at least). :P
I 65 warden used to solo a lot of Carn Dum. However a lot of things are just extremely difficult because you get stunned. The three orcs in one room look soooo easy until you get stunned, then stunned, then stunned, then defeated...
There you have it folks, stupidity at its best. I work all alone in my office and I think my face is red!
awe that doesn't make you stupid, just unobservant.
I remember seeing the title "the easily lost" on another player and asked my kin if that title had been in the game long I had never seen it before, to which they replied that it had been in for quite some time, it was an explorer title. I responded "hey I am and explore wonder how you get that title, because you know I am always lost". that's when they informed me they didn't know what you had to do to get it, but I shouldn't worry about it because I had already had that tittle equipped for the last 6 months.
we decided that there need to be a new title in the game called the "Unobservant"

See that Turbine/WB? I should be the first to get this! LoL. It would go well with my hobbit. I will admit as well, I've learned a few things from reading everyone's posts. Awesome stories/examples everyone.

Now Sarob we hobbits are observationally challenged being so low to the ground and all.
It took me until last year I think to realize that you can trade more than 8 items at a time by continuing to drop items into the trade box....bulk trades are alot easier now!

What chaos! Never saw anything like that. He just barged right in!
I never saw so many AOEs in one place.
I was supposed to be the healer there if I recall right... I don't even remember the rest of the group. A couple of 50s, my 60s RK...
He was a one man fellowship there...
Wardens are just too good. Biggest number of mobs I ever saw on anyone. :P
As for embarassing things happening to me... I didn't really remember any, but this thread and the previous one showed me one or two (like the repositioning of LIs)...
lmao, yeah we did that with my warden as well, I was helping my friend get geared on his Captain, and had my minstrel wife with me. We hadn't done that place before, so we had no idea what to expect, I was kinda tearing through there heedless to danger.
I pull her and it was like I kicked a truckful of hornet's nests. Wife and friend die almost immediately, (but somehow managed to rez each other... I don't know &&& that was..). as my taunts aren't hitting everything as there are WAY too many... I just sat there safely killing the guys for the next 10 mins or so lol. Pretty sure my shield broke in that fight as well.
It took me to at least level 20 to realize that LM do damage to themselves with their spells. I would stand there trying to figure out how the mob had hit me when I had him stunned and dead way before he got close.

HAHAHAH I did this too. I forgot that one. I kept killing myself or dying so fast I was scratching my head going how the hell do I keep dying so fast??
Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans
Well we all have our moments Here's couple of mine that come to mind....
1] For a very long time (I think until I was lvl 50 or something), I dint realize that I could press Alt while clicking the "Buy" button on vendors to buy stacks.....I used to click buy a 50 times if I needed 50 lumps of coal or something
Another fun trick is holding down Tab, which lets you refill a stack. I use this for refilling my stack of Travel Rations.
For the longest time I didn't realize that there was a another entrance at the back of Esteldin that led to Nan Amlug East. So when I was questing there I always had to take the long way (exit Esteldin to Kingsfell and go north around the mountains into Nan Amlug East) and since I was there on-level, it involved fighting my way through boars and wolves every time I had to head back after turning in a quest (I did set my milestone at Esteldin so that helped). It wasn't until after I moved on to Angmar and one day used the Stable Master from Esteldin to Aughaire that I found out you could head out the back of Esteldin! D'OH!
I did the exact same thing. I leveled a hunter to 75, a warden to 45, and then got my Captain to 40 before I realized there was a back door. On the hunter I would just port everywhere, the warden I just never got around to going into Angmar, and on my Captain I finally had to use the stable and was like "HOLY HECK!! NO WAY! They added a back exit!!" in Kin chat. They were nice enough to tell me that it has always been there and then laugh at me for 20 min.
Also, I didn't realize until I had a level 75 hunter that I could move my UI around, add more quick bars, and make them vertical or horizontal. I was just really frustrated that I couldn't ever see anything for 70 levels.
I remember my guardian in her teens, when she ran many times past Ost Guruth without noticing it. In those days there was still fog of war all around the places that you hadn't stepped into. Ahh, you young F2P-folks cannot imagine the hardships of those early days! And she wasn't 35 yet (the level you could start to ride, if I remember correctly). So she had quite some walks from the Forsaken Inn to the Trollshaws. Still: it was a charming time.
And the first time *sob* my Guardian stepped over the bridge into the Trollshaws and listened to the soundtrack *sniff*, my inner elf told me: there must be brethren close I think that moment was the starting point of my love for this game.

First post here, but this topic inspired me to join in.
I was trying to activate my fifth quickslot bar for skills I didn't need keybound, and after activating it in the options menu it didn't appear. After playing around with it for half an hour and dragging several people into /advice trying to help me, I realized that my inventory wasn't open. The bar had been there the whole time, just invisible, as nothing was slotted in it. As a 32 year old college graduate, I felt pretty dumb, but everyone was pretty good about it after a good laugh all around.

Regarding playing as duo: Do not duo with another of your class, traited the same. Especially if your class doesn't have (self)heals. Seriously.
Things got so, so much easier when a hunter paired up with a LM. Can't help but love Share the Power. <3

Thank you for the nostalgia... You didn't happen to scour the bridge, looking for a beryl?
Regarding playing as duo: Do not duo with another of your class, traited the same.
There's nothing necessarily wrong with this. Maybe it's a bit less variety than I like and it opens up the possibility of destructive competition, but it can work for most classes.
Ie, two guardians work well, if something is too tough you just bounce the aggro back and forth, even if both are overpower or both are with shields. Two damage minstrels would make short short work of most things, and you get two different tales active. Two hunters just clean stuff up twice as fast, twice as many traps for crowd control. Etc. Most of the game a duo is just like soloing becuase there is almost no content anywhere with challenging duo content while leveling up, except skirmishes. Having a pure tank and pure healer is really a boring way to go most of the time, at least until high level when that pair are just the bookends of a larger fellowship.
Any pair of classes would be very viable in the game, even if the pair choose the same class. You just have to learn to adapt to what the grouping is. One strategy is to have classes that complement the weaknesses of each other; however it's also a viable strategy to have classes that increase the strengths of each other.
Someone then pointed out that if you go to the skirmish camp, instead of training skills, you can buy ULTIMATE soldier skills by choosing the 'barter' option. Re-focus out, Ultimate critical shot in. What an improvement in soldier DPS, a super shot replacing a skill that took her out of combat for a few seconds.
I have to start paying better attention!
I... had no clue...
Ameldun: [Level 85 Hunter]
Akkhal: [Rank 4 Warleader] Mozkhal: [Rank 4 reaver]
And a bunch more... On gladden of course
I, just yesterday after having been at the level cap for 2 months (took a few months off), figured out that my hunter can use some of her skills while running. More specifically, you can use Penetrating shot, hunter's art, and I believe Blood arrow (could be wrong, can't remember right now) while running. Fortunately, I was not alone in my amazement over this, another kin member who's a 75 hunter also didn't know this. Lol.
I played my main (a Loremaster) for about a full year and was amazed at how some people in a fellowship could know that the mob was going to start coming after me before I got hit and would always be calling out who had aggro. I thought one knew when they saw the mob beating on someone. Then I started to notice this funny pink circle around my feet..... "Oh, so that's what that's for!"

When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse, out of the corner of my eye.
Every time you make plans, a Dev smiles.

Actually there's something you can enable that brings up a box on screen that shows the target of your target. So if you click a mob, it will show you what the mob is targeting (hopefully the tank in a raid! :P )

So what are some things about the game that you found out during your journeys that you really should have known or figured out? I'll start....
After playing on and off for four years, I just figured out a few weeks ago that there is a second entrance to the Prancing Pony! Yep you heard it right. The entrance to the left as you're facing the inn has been hidden (just on my server) for years. I think the last patch was when they put the door in!
I know I'm not the only one....share away!

I'm going to read this whole thread and then add a few of my own (I've got a whopper that I've just 'discovered' LAST NIGHT!) but I just had to comment on this one...
There are indeed 3 entrances:
The main door
The Hobbit door on the left side (a shortcut to the quest rooms)
A side door just around the corner from the main door, on the porch where the shady character is lounging by the barrels. (IIRC, he used to be part of a quest chain either in beta or in the early days.)
All 3 doors have been there since launch. I've been using the Hobbit door for years.
Great thread! I've learned a few things here and had some good laughs too!
I'll add one before my replies to a few of you...
Been here since beta but last night while doing inventory maintenance (which I do a LOT of with 36 characters) between 11 characters on that server in the personal and shared vaults, I accidentally right-clicked an item in the shared storage. A DROPDOWN WINDOW OPENED!!! I said out loud, "WTH?!" Not sure how long that has been in the game but it sure is faster than moving everything manually!

Nuts. Now everyone knows where my fav fishing hole is. Discovered that lake a long time ago and fell in love with it and it's scattered islands.

Not anymore.. :-) There are still restrictions that heavy armour pieces must be applied to cosmetics of heavy armour wearers etc. But it's still nice anyway since some normal equipment armour sets look great..

And this works for rep items too. ANYTHING that you can put into wardrobe can be worn by any character. I have low level alts running around in rep gear and awesome armor well above their level or class (within reason. I try to make it look appropriate).

Thanks. I was in the same boat as Mirarian. I was pressing CTRL+T and just clicking. Did not realize that I needed to ALT+Click. o.O
That emote part is interesting. I'm gonna play around with that. Thanks again.

It's quite a walk from Ost Guruth to Thorin's Hall.
LMAO! This made me laugh harder than I have in a long time. Thanks!

I did when my first character, an Elf Hunter, made it to the bridge. IIRC, there was one there long ago but not sure if it was quest related, a random spawn, or my imagination. But I named my old Kinship after that beryl... Alliance of the ElfStone.

You can still get a single quest from him, far as I know. You just have to get the backpack for the Hobbit outside Prancing Pony, first.
1. I had just recieved that message in my mailbox about getting a mount at Hengstacer Farm. When I got there, he wouldn't let me buy a horse (which I later discovered was because I hadn't bought the mount skill yet). So, I decided I'd just make the trip down to Rohan. The horses there were better anyway, right? I spent the next three hours becoming extremely frustrated because I couldn't find a way to Rohan. So I finally pulled out the world map and realized that Rohan hadn't been created yet. DUH....
2. I took a break from questing and decided to do some exploring around Bree. I climbed over a rock and discovered a little alcove behind the Prancing Pony. I thought it was the coolest thing until I tried to climb back out and realized the rock was too tall to get over from that side. Worse yet, I had just used my Return to Milestone skill two minutes before to get to Bree. So I was stuck behind the inn for the next hour waiting until I could use the milestone skill again. Several passerby laughed at me...

If you ever find yourself in a similar predicament, use the /stuck command. It will teleport you out, to the nearest stone circle I believe (been a while since I've had to use it so it may send you somewhere else, like your milestone. Not sure on that.).

It sends you to the milestone you've bound with Return Home, assuming your map isn't on cooldown.
My most embarrassing moment happened in the first room of acid wing, when I was typing in raid chat with our first target selected and the leader started a ready check at the same time I hit my backspace key. Many months ago I had keymapped "Toggle Autoattack" to backspace, not knowing that ready check steals focus from chat...oops! The results were not pretty, but my kin seems to have forgiven me. Hopefully this won't happen again with Shift + U...
Something I wish I'd known about sooner was the Location/Player Note/Join Date toggle in the kinship panel.

Yup, Options > Combat Options > Show the Vitals of Your Selection’s Target. May need to move it out from behind something (Ctrl + \).

Seems my memory is functioning, just not completely. o.O I haven't run that one in quite sometime. Thanks.
It's been a long time since I did it, but I do remember that he gave the quest to defeat Svalfang after you retrieved the backpack. Not sure if that is still the case.
i remember being unreasonably fixated on the 'armoursmith' & 'weaponsmith' vendors who sell junk low-level gear as a cheap, low-quality alternative to quest/crafted stuff. panicked about not being able to find them in Bree.
also for a time didn't realise that the little coloured ring symbols on the map show you where to go for quests so would use google & various LOTR fan sites to find out where certain places [e.g. the Combe lumber camp] were.
I'm another one to find out about the Esteldin back door quite late in the day, I bought a [slow] horse ride from Esteldin to Aughaire in Angmar & was astonished to see it taking me away from the exit rather than towards it. Think I might have assumed a bug & so dismounted the first time it happened but another time decided to see where it took me.
Once upon a time ago, I had a little hobbit mini. This being my first MMO, I really had no idea what I was doing. Person who got me involved in the game told me that mini = healer, so I thought 'Hey, I'll never die then!' That mini never did see the Wary title. Not sure I managed to keep anyone alive back then because I thought the fellowship heals were the way to go. Never realized I could click on each person's name and throw them a heal. Woops.
Just learned the difference between using Shift and ALT while buying chunks of coal (or wax, or well, basically anything.)
Just learned there was a Mess Hall in Bree. Walked in the door one day and said "Is this new?" (Asked it after a recent update, apparently it's been around longer than that.) I felt silly in glff asking about that.
Just learned that I can lock my quickslots or whatever. Always had a habit of dragging them off my bars by mistake.
And lastly. I now realize that trade windows, ready checks, etc. will stop your chatting. I have my autorun set to the P key. Ready check popped up while I was talking, in runs my little hobbit, while I am trying frantically to stop.

I just noticed this recently too! Although in my defense, every time I have leveled a Cook, I have parked them in Michel Delving, and so I've never really paid too much attention to where the other low-level ovens are.
Another thing: I can't count how many times I've passed, or gone to, or been rezzed at, the Forsaken Inn, and every time I do I make note of the big hole in the roof. Just a few nights ago, I was inside the FI and for some reason panned upwards and noticed, for the first time, that the hole is on the INSIDE of the Inn as well and that you can see sky through it.
After a couple of seconds of "oh, wow, that's really cool!", I facepalmed really hard for not seeing that two years ago.
