    Question Warden or Lore-Master?

Posted this in the Lore-Master forum and thought I would post here as well to get a more rounded set of opinions:

Hello everyone, new to Lotro and looking for a main class to play. I've narrowed it down to LM or Warden. I've played both to the mid teens and like both so far.

I doubt Ill grp much in the game, I prefer to solo most of the time due to my weird work schedules. My playstyle is in a word 'extreme' I like to try and take on the biggest, baddest thing I can and see if I can defeat it. I derive great pleasure in saying 'Yeah, I did that', when you not technically suppose to.

I will grp from time to time though, I think skirmishes will be 90% of my grping extent with a dungeon or two for good measure.

So, in your opinion and experience would a Lore-Master or Warden be better suited for that?

First off I have never played a LM so I am going to be one sided in this. Second I do play 3 wardens now and love them. I am able to pretty much solo things with out too much trouble. I ran alot of solo stuff due to my schedule and found the warden to be a great fit. With the mixture of damage, buffs and lifetaps a warden can solo mobs/bosses/elites (With appropriate gear and knowledge of course) Due to what you say you will be playing mostly I would (and again I have never played a LM) run with the warden. (After all a warden is a small fellowship)

    Warden > LM
For two reasons: One, Wardens are awesome.
Two: Wardens have an awesome forum.
    BONUS REASON!!!
As a Warden you can be like, "Yeah, I soloed that big bad dragon with 54 gatrillion million billion Morale, YOU MAD BRO??
    ANOTHER BONUS REASON!!!
You're big and bad with your spear and shield and javelin. LMs have books... And ravens... SSCCCAAARRRYYY.
    Dialogue between LM and WRD:
LM: "But, but but, IM SCAWURD!!!!!!!"
WRD: "Here, hide behind me, I'll stand here and be ferocious."
Plus, hobbit stab to the crotch... It doesn't get more win than that .

Have give you the regular answer to this way often asked question. Play the one your good at, the one that most fun for you.
All the class's are awesome. Some have soloed every class. Being your at 2 class's you like, why not just keep rolling both time being, until lvl 30. Then maybe you'll have a better idea which 1 you really enjoy better. LM's is pretty tuff go below lvl 30 compared to the other clas's, But hey thats just me, sure there's plenty here that see that diffirently.

If you have time to play both enough to make up your own mind, do so.

But if not, play a Warden. The class is rediculous. Crazy crazy good.

I do things on my warden that I would never consider with my other characters. The 'normal' way for dealing with 'kill 10 of x' is to gather all 10 in one spot, fight them all at once and come out with full morale and power. At 70 I took on a 75 sig and ended the fight with full morale and power. Once you get dark before dawn the class is silly strong.

"Can't we all just get along?"

So... Time to give a serious answer.
You said you wanna solo stuff, because you're unable to group based on our work schedule. Roll a Warden. It's awesomesauce. You said you wanna be like, "Yeah, I did that." As a Warden, you SO JUST OWNED THAT ELITE MASTER. So yeah, Wardens FTW.

Thank you all for your posts, I'm starting to come around to the Warden side of thinking but I've yet to make the leap. You all do this class credit with the posts Im reading.

I play both and I very much enjoy the versatility of my loremaster in group play (even though she's nowhere near cap yet), but for the playstyle you describe, the warden wins hands down.

My warden is a little bouncing hobbit, always on the move, doing stuff even out of combat (you get all the nice combat skill animations when executing gambits for battle preparation ), always in the thick of things and that one that made me go "what a noob my minstrel is, she actually had a tight fight with just five lvl-76 landscape mobs on her". My warden will pull 10 or 20 and not break a sweat . My warden is the one that wins the boss fight solo when the rest of the group goes down before the boss is at half morale. Admittedly, that one takes some time, but it is perfectly doable (as my warden has shown in several boss fights, even in endgame instances ). My warden is the one that believes she's invincible (and for the most part she's right).

The loremaster is a very interesting class with lots of possibilities. They shine in fellowships because of the many different things they can (and will) do depending on what the group and fight need, but they are pretty painful to level solo for a long time. It does become easier as you are nearing endgame, but leveling still is slow compared to the warden. The warden will race to level cap, leaving a trail of orange and red mobs in their wake. The only really annoying thing I found when levelling my warden, especially in the later parts of the game, was the fact that the game didn't give me the option to take on quests more than five levels above me since I easily soloed all the red quests I could find.

I play both Warden and LM @75

Going by what you want to experience from this game I would recommend the Warden for you.

Another very important factor which no one mentioned so far - Mustering skills. As a solo player, especially when you are levelling, you will have to travel far and wide. Especially in the 30s and 40s. The warden has native self-port abilities which I found very valuable. So much so that once I started working on Alts I lamented the loss of self-ports more than anything else.

Yeah, I forgot about that. That's a reason I jumped from my deleted hunt, to Warden. Playing my champ is horrible :P

Thanks again everyone, decided to go Warden!

I'm level 14 right now and not doing to bad. I don't think I've come close to death one time. The Gambit system isn't giving me any troubles so far.

Ill save the LM for when I get this guy maxed out.

I play both and I have to say that the Warden is by far the better class for soloing and it is true that it can take on quests that would need a small fellowship for any other class to manage. I have easily soloed 3 man instances with my Warden.

The Lore Master is more a relaxed playstyle, and slower to get there, but can be more fun, especially if you play as an Elf. With the Elf stealth ability and your lynx in stealth mode (get lynx at level 30), you get to be almost as sneaky as a Burglar. I have great fun, sneaking through enemy camps, past all the guards up behind the chief, then sending in lynx for a stealthed attack. Of course you have to fight your way back out again, but hey, you get best of both worlds. Sneak in unnoticed and massacre everything that moves on the way back out!

I have them both at 75 and use them regularly on T2 raiding. If you want to have challenges soloing, level the Lore-Master. The warden is so ridiculously overpowered for solo play that every kid can solo anything with no practice at all. With the Lore-Master you will be able to solo a lot of stuff also, but it will require more planification and work.
