Others to run game from beginning, with no retreats/self-revives (semi-permadeath)?
I am looking for others who might be interested in rolling new characters and running the game from the beginning, slowly and carefully, with a heavy emphasis on not being defeated (the expectation being that characters which need to self-revive or retreat would not continue with the kin).
Why do this? Specifically, why start the game from scratch with a group of people who are going to be progressing slowly and carefully, whose goal is not to level their toons as quickly as possible?
Because in LOTRO, I've found the journey to be more thrilling and fascinating than the destination. The world is stunningly large and beautiful and fascinating to explore. There is an immense amount of (mostly) interesting quests, deeds, and crafting. There are a ton of great instances and quests at a range of levels that require groups. And many features of the game, like CJs, heavily reward grouping. Taken together, this makes me want to explore the game thoroughly and play most of the content deliberately and with care, with like-minded players at roughly the same level. More would be at stake in each fight, and we'd be depending on each other much more than a regular kin, and as a result we'd be a more active and cohesive group. How we played and what we did for each other would matter (to the extent it can matter in a game).
Some people like the idea of "permadeath" and many others hate it. This kin will give us the benefits of permadeath without most of the drawbacks. We get the thrill of taking gameplay and grouping seriously, and an incentive to fully explore the content rather than speed through it. But because the penalty for self-reviving or retreating would only be the toon leaving the kin (not deletion), and because we the kin will be able to define what should be exempt from any penalty (obviously including situations caused by server crash and the unavoidable epic book death), the consequences aren't as dire as true permadeath and we can collectively set the expectations by which we want to live (er, play).
If you're up for this, feel free to post here and suggest a class you'd like to play, and/or a server, and/or a kin name. I'm willing to play pretty much any class, so I'll fill in what is most needed.
If you're possibly interested in something like this but you're not sure, feel free to post here with comments/questions, or let me know how to get in touch with you in-game or off-line to discuss.
