    Protector Skirmisher

    Dear Turbine,
Will you fix the protector so he actually does his job instead of just standing around or finds his self running into a wall while i get the snot beat out of me? Please and Thank you.

Actually, soldiers of ANY category can be caught skiving off for a roll-yer-own every now and again. I'm fairly sure at least SOME of it is deliberate, after all, the official tactics against echo of death explicitly state giving your trusty, hardworking comrade in arms a kick up the whotsit to get them back on the job again. ( One applies the kick by pushing the 'direct soldier' skill button - yes, even on herbalists, they obviously will not attempt to heal or attack the currently targeted mob, but it still serves to wake them up again. Sometimes :\ )

All Skirmish Soliders will occasionaly do this - especially the melee-based one. It has nothing to do with the Protector specifically.

This game has horrible AI for the Skirmish Soliders, and it's been that way for years. Why they don't fix it I don't know. It should have been done a long time ago.

Protector AI was working just fine before Rise of Isengard. I noticed when I was beta testing RoI that it got broken. I reported it and, of course, it was not fixed on release. And to this day it still remains broken.

Celestrata even sent me a PM recently asking me what exactly was wrong with it and I outlined the problems. Haven't heard a thing since and there's been a few patches since then.

I'm really hoping that they fix it eventually. I kind of liked the protector skirmish soldier.

It's not just the soldier AI but pathing issues based on terrain, which is separate coding. Between patches and expacs, the soldier behavior between AI/terrain has been hit or miss because it's not a simple AI fix (e.g. the T&M terrain break from RoI), but they actively tweak if enough players actually report specifics instead of generally complaining.

That is, besides the well-known "will not attack these Lts/those cc'd mobs" behaviors which are actually WAI, the only way to get Turbine to notice specific issues is to screenshot and report coords in an actual bug report.

Anyone who even plays this game for even a few minutes in their skirmishes will immediately notice the multitude of problems relating to their Solider AI and interaction with the terrain. It doesn't matter what coding it's on to be honest. There is just no good excuse why this problem hasn't been addressed (and fixed).

It's been this way for years now - and unless the developers at turbine simply never play their own game - they should have no problems at all noticing it on their own - without needing their players to supply screen-shots or detailed accounts of their experiences.

I love my Protector also Chromite.

But I'm going to have to disagree with you. He was doing stupid things like running into walls, getting lost, unable to go up a flight of stairs ect... long before RoI came out.

This isn't a recent problem, and it's been this way since I can remember.

That's pathing, not AI. Bad pathing can be worked around. AI, unfortunately, can't.

I personally would consider "pathing" a form of AI. But if you are making a distinction that helps me narrow down what you are talking about.

So what AI problems are you having with your Protector?

Maybe how he ends combat on something when it's stunned?
