Re: What if Smaug suffered from Draigoch Disease?

EDIT: No clue how I managed to butcher the spelling of Draigoch in the title lol.

I just kinda took Draigoch and Smaug, and combined them. This is the end result:

What if Smaug suffered from Dragicoh Disease?

    Outcomes:
    - Hunter Nerf: No Bard's Arrow
    - No Volume III epic quest: The Grey Company would have likely been too occupied with the Goblins of the North, who would have had their numbers reduced by 3/4 had the Battle of Five Armies still occurred.
    - Without Bilbo's share of the treasure he would likely be unable to hold the grand celebration for his 111th birthday. No party. No Party Tree. It is now simply known as The Tree.
    - To any players with characters on Arkenstone... tough break, guys.

I couldn't find many pictures to work w/ from the 2012 film so I was forced to resort to the animated film from the 70's.

Okay I get that, but he just looks so... non-dragony.

Sorry, the comparison to Draigoch was funny, I'm just completely thrown by how weird they made him look in that film.

I saw this movie when it aired on TV in 1977 or 1978, when I was 10 or so. It was the catalyst for me.

    The original scene:

I still have the most vivid memories of the Goblin Town scene:

Oh it's not a problem. I thought about just drawing it myself. After the first frame, upon reviewing the outcome, I decided the Cat Dragon was the lesser of two evils.

Because it was a rated G childrens cartoon.

They didn't make cartoons back then like they do now. Cartoons nowadays are FULL of "extreme" violence and demon looking characters.

Violence and character apperances in cartoons 40 years ago was very mild compared to today.

Re: What if Smaug suffered from Dragicoh Disease?

Cartoons today are much more tame then those of the late 70's, early 80's. Have you ever seen Watership Down? Absolutely terrifying. The Last Unicorn, The Secret of Nimh and The Transformers Movie(where Optimus dies. I was like :O! ) Also; Smaug might look stupid to us but I remember, as a kid, thinking he was the scariest dragon I'd ever seen.

I feel bad for kids today. All they have are Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon.

    That was hilarious!
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"

To see a very well done dragon made decades ago using what was then state of the art camera work, and not todays CGI, watch Dragonslayer.
