I noticed on forum that there are...uhm....MANY servers, so my question is what's the purpose in having MANY servers?I understood that lotro has a huge world but with this many(sorry for repeating) servers wouldn't this world feel...empty?:/ As in the player base gets split too much. Also, any real difference between servers?except language.
Sorry if this may be a dumb question but i'm still downloading the game while writing so didn't play yet.
It's that much actually - LOTRO only has 29 regular servers plus an open beta test server. Compare that to SWTOR, who has - how many? - I think it was 218 servers in the weeks after launch. Now, get that many servers and the population will soon even up on minuscule setting, which is why they are doing transfers and merges already.
When LOTRO launched, servers were divided between US and Europe (now unified) and since then new servers were only added once - when the game went F2P and the population saw a HUGE increases for several weeks straight. Since then the populations have evened up and most servers are perfectly fine. True, some servers are underpopulated - but it doesn't mean some people don't like it this way. And some servers are overpopulated even - you can settle on Brandywine if you want, sure. Just be prepared for worse than average lag and not being able to buy a Deluxe House ever, because they are all sold already.
