I'll be the first to admit there are better minstrels than me in our kin on Snowbourn (notably Andy the Awesome). My minstrel is my third-priority toon after hunter and burg, but I'd say I have a reasonable knowledge of minstrel skills and have healed all of Orthanc, including Saruman T1, successfully.
But last night in Orthanc was a nightmare (not helped by no cappies at all in the raid). My tank kept dying and there was nothing I could do about it, since the skill delay on even so-called instant skills like Coda of Vigour, Chord of Salvation and Triumphant Spirit seemed to be 4 or 5 seconds. I was pretty sure I wasn't too far away from the tank to keep him up, even when we were running around in circles after acid wargs. And I kept having to use OH !""!£" buttons rather than a normal BC/RtS/Freeps/War/Composure/IF rotation.
(And let's not mention when the tank died, I threw a Rally and it didn't take because an RK had a DNFTD on him...)
Healing Orthanc without Captain is considerably harder than with a captain. The extra heals and buffs a good captain brings to the group go a long way towards preventing damage, and I always found it especially noticable in that raid.
I haven't noticed any unusual skill delay in that raid (I last healed through the first four locks a couple of days ago, but with the help of a captain), but depending on time of day and server load there are still lags that can strike at odd moments (although they weren't as bad this time as I remembered from the previous week).
Unless you have amazing tanks that have maxed damage absorbtion/prevention and crazy incoming healing, try not to go in there without captain, it will make your life as a healer unnecessarily hard.
Had no issues with lag (had some lag spikes but not skills not going to target). I admit, is harder with out having a cappy but is not impossible. Also u need to realise that the tanks had their role there, ofc is harder to keep a tank with 12k morale and less mittigation. U need to learn that:
- every party is a diferent storry, u need to adapt / work harder or less
- experience is comming running all stuff with all kinds of tanks, diferent situations (no LM, no cappy etc ...)
- one succes does not mean u can allways do that think without failure.
- now ppl will apreciate more a good healer who will allways get them out of trouble, and realise that healing is not an easy stuff do to when u dont have an "perfect" group.
Adapt and learn, if u see your tank loosing morale fast try to be proactive, try to see how much heals he is gettting, u can keep any tank up for some time with this combo, 3 ballads quickly, aotta, coda, BC instant, bubble, RtS, CoS, SoS, CoC, Aotta, coda, BC instant. U realise how much healing gonna be sended to him? Keep the big skills the last. Until u will do all this the party can take the boss/bigger stuff from the tank and u are saved. Learn your skills good, trait for more healing, check for coda effects under diferent anathems. Experience and patience are the most valuable virtues. Good luck
There did seem to be quite a bit of lag generally last night , had Kin mates from all over Europe complaining , Lime Light Gorge , Foundry and Orthanc Acid & Shadow Wings - Was a right pain esp as I was tanking on my Warden (Lag is about the worst thing we can suffer from)

I play on a US server from the UK. Lag in Orthanc is noticeably bad at times. The skill lag especially seems to hurt our tanks. There's not really much you can do - I tend to slot 4 blues and accept that I'll be overhealing at times and sometimes even just sacrifice a dps anthem for a healing one as extra insurance. Beyond that, if the skills aren't landing til too late or are landing and just don't seem to be registering with the person you're healing then there comes a point where you have to weigh up what you're bringing to the raid. Heal early, heal often, dodge aggro and mutter a lot of profanities. Sacrificing chickens may also work.
I play using a country australian broadband connection on a US server. I used to play on a very old laptop- the current one is great in comparison. Consequently, out of habit, I overheal almost always, and when lag is bad, I try to anticipate what will be needed by the couple of seconds it takes it may take my skills to fire.
The worst thing is the lag before moving I get in some instances- they'll be typing 'run mini run' in chat as she seems to be just standing there getting whacked while I am WWWWWWWWWWWWW ing frantically.
Haven't tried the chicken sacrifice but the profanities are pretty routine for me-despite being a 'middle aged lady' in RL. I never have hands free voice for this reason- my language would make a rock n roll roadie or aussie construction worker blush..........and frequently used to
There have been much lag issues also on Whitywindle.
Our kin are almost cracking FF t2, but the lags keeps us from getting there.
The lags in there are nightmareish, there are times i can press a skill, and it wont respond for another 5 seconds.
But this might come of all the newbies on the server as Whitywindle was made recommended server for all new ones coming from steam, witch was a Butload of newbies... dunno if thats the reason but when there is around 70-100+++ lvl 1s online at any time, it would maybe be to much for a little server like Whitywindle :P
