Question Are there any gaming laptops under $1,000 that can play skyrim and this on high?

I considered desktops for a while, but my family travels all together way to much like every other week, and i want something i can take with me, even if it has a smaller screen but can handle skyrim on high and this, and can handle a bigger monitor when im not traveling, thanks!

AW: Are there any gaming laptops under $1,000 that can play skyrim and this on high?

Pretty much any current notebook with 4+ gigs of RAM and a dedicated graphics card should be able to play this on High. I have an i3-2120 with 8 GB RAM and an SSD. My graphics card recently broke and I inserted an old ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card, and I can still play everything on ultra except some raids. Just make sure to get a 64 bit operating system

Skyrim may be a different story though.

It is always very dependent on resolution of course. I play with the above setup on a 1680x1050 screen.

try to go for an ATI or nvidia graphics card, any ATI card from the 5xxx, 6xxx or 7xxx range or nvidia 500 or 600 series will be more than enough
a lot of laptops will come with intel graphics which lotro may work with lotro but lotro tends to have issues with intel graphics and officialy lotro does not support intel graphics at all

SSD is nice to have and will bump up your price as well as have a big impact on lotros performance, lotro will run happily on a regular HDD so long as you use a full speed 7200rpm disk not the slower 5400
Skyrim may be a different story though.
take a look at the recommended specs for skyrim (not the minimum). the requirements for skyrim are much higher than lotro so id suggest looking for a machine which runs skyrim, if it can run skyrim itll run lotro, again any graphics card in the ATI 6xxx, 7xxxx and nvidia 500 or 600 series

You may want to look at the laptops at dell.com. I too wanted the flexibility of playing LOTRO while away from my desktop. I decided to go with Dells XPS laptop model. Today their lowest base price is $899, but they go up from there.

Anyway, it's not a top of the line gaming laptop, but does an excellent job!

64 bit is must if you want anything over 4 GB Ram. 32 bit systems have a max of 4GB Ram and only 3.2 or 3.5 of that is usable.

LOTRO plays beautifully on my Dell XPS. My laptop has an Nvidia GEForce GT 555m card and it also has 6 GB of RAM. LOTRO's graphics are very smooth and fun to watch and play!

Hope you find what you're looking for!

That should easily do the job for lotro with ultra settings. With skyrim, since I don't know what the game specs are, I can't definitely say that it will run it on the highest settings (is still should though), but it should run without a problem on low-medium settings.

Listen to me very carefully on this. Skyrim has a really bad conflict from version 1.5 and up with the ATI HD cards and they are currently not supporting anything but cards that run lower than 1 gb dedicated memory.

    I have that card.

I've been battling customer support for 4 months. The glitch that happens makes the game unplayable.

Don't buy computers from best buy, you get ripped off. Look on tigerdirect and newegg.
