I've played LOTRO for over a year without a problem. Then, after update 7 I've started having this problem. Every time I play the game, the computer randomly shuts off after 10~45 minutes without any indicator that this will happen. No lag, latency, music issues, nothing. It just shuts down with no BSOD or anything like that. Just BAM! shuts down!
I don't think the problem is overheating beacuse the only time it shuts down is when I play LOTRO and this didn't happen before the update. Besides, I'm in Argentina and we're going through a really cold winter here and this apartment is really cold, so I really don't think it's an overheating issue. I've got 3gb RAM and an ATI radeon 1650 and heard some people had the same problem with this graphic card, but no one said how to solve it.
I'd really like to find a way to solve this because it would be a shame to stop playing such a great game over this stupid an issue. Help anyone?? Thanks in advance!
I had the same problem and it was my video card. I tried updating the drivers and that didn't help. Ended up replacing it and now I don't have that problem any more.
Attempt this: go to options, click Troubleshoot, fix framerate at 60 (or so). It appears part of the base game graphics is handled in an odd way by certain graphics cards: newer games run just fine for me, Skyrim runs just fine for me on most setting maxxed while LOTRO for whatever reason needs me to use medium graphics lest it overheats (happily I can do ultra super high draw distance or it would be unplayable).
