As the title says, i've noticed i'm having very high latency all the time. It goes from a minimum of 700 to a maximum of over 1400. I guess some latency is to be expected since the servers are in the US (or i guess they are) and i'm in europe, but i played other MMORPGs with servers in america and i never had such high lag problems. Is there a way to reduce this? Or is it a known problem and i just have to give up and play with the lag?
there is not really any way to fix latency unless you can identify a local cause. pings this high are not normal for us EU players, my ping usually floats around 150-300
first place to start would be to reboot your modem\router especially if its switched on 24\7, if your use a modem and router configuration try connecting directly through your modem without the router
open an administrator level command prompt and type without the quotes "ipconfig /flushDNS".
if your using wireless you could try changing wifi channels which may help, if you use vista or w7 try using wlan optimizer or vista antilag which may also help a little or better still use a wired connection.
if your using a proxy then remove the proxy
if none of this works try posting the results of a trace to the logon servers, this will help is identify whether the problem is with your ISP or at turbines end...
from an admin command prompt type the following without the quotes
"tracert gls.lotro.com > c:\trace.txt"
it will appear to do nothing for a few seconds but once finished open c:\trace.txt and post the results
this is weird. I tried the flush and to reboot my modem, then i logged in again. Now the latency starts at acceptable levels (around 200), then spikes up slowly to 800 and then it stays in the 700-900 range, with around 2% of packet loss.
The trace:

The server i'm playing on is Brandywine, maybe it's something related to that?
thanks, after that i tried some more tracerts and some pings and noticed my latency was insanely high with everything. After a couple of tests i noticed it was because of my modem. Rebooting it fixes it temporarily but after that the problem comes straight back. I'll go get a new modem and then check again.
