Tanking one enemy (boss) - lvl60

I finished Forgotten treasury in Moria but I'm not very satisfied with my performance. We were 58-62lvl - guardian, captain, DPSs, no (full) healer so I was using conviction + threat skills (offtanking). At the end we should fight two trolls. Guard took one, I took the second one. Problem is I tanked him just few seconds.. (other lesser bosses too)
I'm lvl 60 and full blue traited now, used several Precise blows initially but DPS classes pulled troll anyway. I wasn't able to get him back.. Defiant Chalenge lasted just few seconds.. Then I became desperate warden pursuing big troll and stinging him (PBs) with my little sword to notice me!

1.) I got legacy "Fist-Spear, Threat up" (just Rank 2 now) on my sword. Are higher levels viable? Any other useful legacies?
2.) Any hints for skill usage to hold one enemy (boss)?
3.) Any hints for (tanking) gear upgrade?

At level 60 you get Exultation of Battle (Fi-Sp-Sh-Fi-Sh), a 10-target 6m-radius lifetap/threat over time gambit. It's most likely our best aggro generating gambit against any kind of target (including single), so use it liberally until you get a feeling for when it is safe to do other things inbetween .

In the situation you describe, try to stand in a position where your troll is within the 6m radius but the other troll isn't. Once you have him safe, pull him a bit more to the side and keep spamming EoB or possibly double EoB (Goad for Potency, then a regular EoB, followed by the duplicate EoB that was put into Battle Memory). If you manage to get in two or three EoBs in quick succession you should be safe enough to alternate with Conviction or your self-heal/self-buff of choice. Personally I like to use Celebration of Skill (self-heal plus block), Dance of War (threat transfer plus evade) and Surety of Death (single target threat plus evade) inbetween EoB to make myself even harder to hit .

At level 62 you will also get access to the Aggression gambit (Fi-Sh-Sp-Fi) that transfers a very good chunk of threat from all of your fellowship members to you. It is a good gambit to peel your mob back off of your damage dealers in case of "accidents". Just make sure you don't use it too much or you will pull the other troll off of the guard, too .

Hm...that sounds to me like you didn't change your stance . That happened to me few times when i was DPS-ing and after some time had to switch to off-tank.

Before that major Warden revamp stances were not affecting aggro management like they do now. So if you were not in Determination stance, your aggro management were almost non-existing.

Thanks.. so EoB generates even more threat.. and Aggresion later.. good to hear..

I'm pretty sure I was in Determination. I fired Goad, PB, PB (memory).. I'm not sure about rest.
My guess is that our archers had some nice crits and that's the reason why he escaped me..

Yup EoB is our current best Threat generator over Time. Single Boss I do sometimes BattlePrep Spear of Virtue ,which has a nice chunk of 'Upfront Threat' , instead of EoB - this can stop the boss running after the healer if they are a bit keen.
A couple of points , did those you were grouped with understand Warden Threat generation , did they let you start the fight & hold off max DPS'ing for 10 secs.

You could start something like Ambush (stun him ) , Wages of Fear , Goad , Exultation of Battle, (BM) Exultation of Battle, Shield Mastery , Conviction / DoW ... etc. Remember Threat transfers only work if fellowship have already started attacking, seen too many Wardens fire it off too early when no threat to transfer or morale to heal. Never have anything run away from me, tho our wild welsh wizard (Dwarf RuneKeeper) does try now and again to keep me on my toes

PB (and the bigger versions of that gambit line) and EoB are good to start out a fight and establish aggro, but if you're losing aggro to DPS, you need to be using threat leeches, not threat builders. The 232 line will take aggro away from the DPS and give it to you, rather than you just trying to climb back up the ladder chasing things around and trying to spam PB, while the DPS are still nuking the target.

Got it.. thanks.. Yesterday I tanked Grand Stairs without problems..
1.) Goad, 2xEoB, Goad, 2xPB (or EoB for group effect)
    2.) some other Threat/defence skills..
    3.) later Goad, 2xMaddening strikes..
    Works like charm..
