    Expansion purchase with TP

Last year we were not able to purchase the expansion with TP at the time of release because the instance cluster was not ready at the time the quest part of the expansion was released. Now that you are going to add the instance cluster to the expansion pack for RoR is it going to be the same thing? Will I be able to puchase the complete expansion package with tp on September 5th or are you going to charge me over 4000 tp for the quest pack and and additional unknown number of tp for the instance cluster?

According to Sapience(I am not hunting the quote for you), the whole expansion will only be available in the Store after the instance cluster gets released, so we have the exact situation as last year(for the same reasons - technical issues).

    Edit: I was feeling generous.

Thanks for the link it was not there when I did a developer search prior to my post.

So now they are going to force me to us real money to purchase the expansion rather then allow me to use the TP I get every month to do so.

Yes, it seems it doesn't pick his posts up later in that thread when looking at his posts using the "find user posts" function.

It's not really because of technical issues. That's just what they SAY it is. It's really because it's their new (well, new as of RoI) business strategy. By withholding the full expansion bundle they can ensure that people who want the expansion at launch have to either pay in cash or pay double the TP price because of buying the more expensive individual parts.

As evidence of this I give:

    1) If it were really a technical issue you'd think they'd have fixed the issue by now considering it's now a year since this "technical issue" was first announced.

    2) They are doing the exact same thing in DDO, their other f2p game. Those who want to buy it with TP must wait till the first update AFTER launch. The problem here is that there IS no "unfinished content" in DDO's expansion and thus they can't use the "technical issues" excuse, yet they're still implementing the "must wait several months if using TP" policy.

Correct. That's if you want it at launch for a reasonable price.

Or, you can always pay TP at launch for double the price by buying the individual parts.

    ^

The fact that they were able to attach access of the ITA instance cluster to the Enedwaith quest pack very, very long after the release of Enedwaith and at no extra cost pretty much disproves the existence of any "technical issue". (Some of you might even recall the original plan was to attach the individual instances to their respective regional quest packs, but that got changed just before final release.)

Yet the same can't be done with Isen cluster and Dunland quest pack, or ROR cluster and Rohan quest pack.

Turbine is just trying to maximise revenue, and there's nothing wrong with that. They're running a business. For them to cook up some lame excuse like that and expect people to believe it though, well... I kinda amused there are actually people who believed it.

    Re: Expansion purchase with TP

The problem isn't with attaching a cluster AFTER it is released, to a region that has been released in the PAST.

The technical difficulty is attaching something that DOESN'T YET EXIST to something that (at the time of RoR launch) will CURRENTLY exist.

If there are no "Locks" to attach they cannot attach "Locks" to a region.

And yet they're somehow able to attach those very same "unattachable" instances to those who pre-order and buy the expansion online even though they don't exist yet.

It's a code...or a "flag" that gets put on your account. Kuala pre-ordered RoR...attach code 87tgh3dk to Kuala's account. When expansion launches client gets told to check all accounts for code 87tgh3dk...they can do quests/deeds in new zone. Kuala has that code. When instances are released client gets told to check all accounts again for the code. Kuala has it. Kuala goes into the instances. How come that same code can't be applied on a TP purchase?

Looking at it another way. I buy an account-wide unlock for TP, a horse maybe or bags #4 and 5. Yay, my current characters who exist already get access to it. Surprise, my characters I haven't made yet, who do not exist in the game yet...I make them and BAM! They get the unlock automatically. "But Kuala! How did your character who didn't even exist in the game yet at the time of purchase get the unlocks?" If you believe Turbine it's...MAGIC!!

And somehow they are able to attach your "nonexistent locks" when you pay with cash anyway?

    Grasping straw right there.

There's no difference in form at all.

(quest pack released in LOTRO Store in the past ---> cluster released as an update in the future)

Enedwaith quest pack ---> ITA cluster
Dunland quest pack ---> Isen cluster
Rohan quest pack ---> ROR cluster

If they were able to attach the ITA cluster to the Enedwaith quest pack instead of selling the ITA cluster separately, there's nothing preventing them from attaching the Isen cluster to the Dunland quest pack or the ROR cluster to the Rohan quest pack. In all the three cases, the relevant region and quest pack existed (or will exist) well ahead of time when the related instance clusters got released (or get released). The Enedwaith quest pack (sans instances) was available as a TP purchase for a long time the same way the Dunland quest pack (sans instances) was available as a TP purchase for a long time, and the same way the Rohan quest pack (sans instances) will be available as a TP purchase for a long time.

Update F2P: "Enedwaith quest pack now available!"
Update 2: "If you already owned the Enedwaith quest pack, you will have access to these new instances!"

Update 4: "Dunland quest pack now available!"
Update 5: "If you already owned the Dunland quest pack, uh, you will have to buy these new instances seperately (due to technical issues)!"

    Haha. Yeah right.

The "technical issue" is one of profit margins, not technology. Again, nothing wrong with that. I'm actually impressed that they're even allowing launch-day purchase with TP at all, instead of giving pre-purchasers some multi-day headstart. I just find the "technical issue" excuse very amusing.

    Re: Expansion purchase with TP

I and my partner are in the same situation as the OP, wanting to buy the "expansion" in the store with accrued TP on the 5th Sept, as I understand it, all we will be able to get is the ROR "questpack" for 4295 TP and have to spend again for the IC at some point in the future.

Given that 4295TP is, I think, more than $40 worth of TP, how is it that VIP's who want to use TP end up having to pay twice?

    Re: Expansion purchase with TP

The OP is likely upset because the instances went from clearly NOT being part of the expansion (and thus included with VIP) to part of the expansion (and thus everyone had to buy it.)

For lifers this is move is a huge shift in reason to buy the expansion with cash, and one that hurts quite deeply if you'd made plans to use TP accordingly after the 'instances will not be included' fiasco. Some lifers have absolutely nothing else they'd want to spend TP on and calculated how many TP they'd have by then. This is now another piece of TP they'd have to spend that they A.)Don't know how much it is and B.) Don't know when it's going to be launching. ; Both of which were moot concerns if it was not a part of the expansion and thus would have been included in VIP/Lifetime status.

I sympathize with my lifer friends and long-term subscribers looking for some value in their VIP subscription. Turbine needs to talk about whats' so awesome about VIP now that Destiny points have all but been removed. Talk about their replacement. Talk about the revitalization they're planning to do to PvMP.

So you somehow think that the Turbine store is the same thing as the LOTRO store, even though it has been stated over and over and over and over and over and over that they are not the same software and do not function in the same way.

Get it through your skull. YOU CANNOT PURCHASE SOMETHING THROUGH THE LOTRO STORE IF IT DOES NOT EXIST.

    I agree

Plus the LOTRO store is run by a different company, so THEY would have to fix any technical issues and since this year the instances were not supposed to be included, there should have been no issue to worry about fixing...until now. Just because you (not referring to anyone specific) don't understand the technical issues that prevent this doesn't mean they don't exist.

As to VIP not getting the instances for free, I can't imagine there were too many VIP at the higher levels that weren't going to buy the new expansion anyway (either with cash or TP) so they are still getting it free, they just have to wait for the next update to buy the full expansion or pay extra like before but you can't say this was intentional, it was only after players demanded it be included that it ended up this way.

In fact it looked like they were trying to avoid this very thing by not including them in the expansion.

    Ok, so answer me this...

In Turbine's other f2p game, DDO, they are launching their first expansion this month. Everything in the expansion will be in-game at launch. There will be no "doesn't exist yet" content. Yet even though everything will be in-game on launch day they're STILL not selling the TP version of the expansion until 2 months after launch. Both games are based on the same coding/engine and as far as I'm aware the TP store in both games is run by the same guys, so why is Turbine delaying the TP purchase of the DDO expansion for 2 months after launch when they won't have the reason of "it's not in game yet"?

And, even if it's true that the TP store really just can't sell something that's not in-game then why can't the Turbine devs simply create a "Scroll of Expansion Purchase"...a physical scroll that goes into our inventory, non-destructible of course (like how the original lootboxes were). When you buy the scroll with TP you're not buying a non-existant expansion you're simply buying a scroll. That way there WILL be something physically in-game that can actually be bought with TP and whoever has that scroll in their inventory will be granted access to the expansion content whenever it's released.

You may believe that it's a technical issue with coding and programming, and maybe it really is, but I think it's a marketing strategy...get the most amount of people to pay cash up-front, or the most amount of TP possible in individual options, BEFORE giving them the option to purchase the cheaper TP bundled option.

    Re: Expansion purchase with TP

As to the DDO question, If that is indeed true, that would be Turbines decision. It has nothing to do with the store or any kind of technical problems. It also has nothing to do with the thread since, again, it isn't a Store limitation it is a decision on Turbines part to delay that DDO expansion to TPers. If I had to guess, maybe they just want to give people who Pre-Ordered a little headstart. I haven't played DDO in a long time so your guess would be better than mine. I just remember it being rather small and very group focused.

As to your second point. I'm all for it if they can create an item (which would need to be some form of auto consumed on use item after the instance cluster goes live) that could do as you ask. I don't know of many items that they have changed from non auto consumed to auto consumed that didn't wind up with problems for characters yet. It would also need to be an account unlock flag which might require the player to log completely out... or not I don't know. Your welcome to suggest it to them.

Long story short, Again this isn't about offering the Instance cluster at all. This is about the technical limitations of offering the IC BEFORE the IC is launched (For TP through the store). And in this case it IS a Technical issue.
