Thread: A word about the Riders of Rohan Pre-Purchase packs.

As most of you know, last week we launched the Riders of Rohan pre-purchase program. While initial sales have been strong and overall response has been positive, we have been paying very close attention to feedback from our community, where some concerns have been raised.

First, many of you shared how much you appreciated the inclusion of Turbine Points as part of last year’s offers. While we believe that the Rohan packs already offer an excellent value, we’ve heard your request and are now adding bonus points into all tiers of the Pre-purchase packs!
The updated editions will now include:

• Base Edition: 1,000 Bonus Turbine Points
• Heroic Edition: 1,000 Bonus Turbine Points
• Legendary Edition: 2,000 Bonus Turbine Points

Are you one of the many players who already purchased Riders of Rohan? You get points too! Anyone who has already applied their Rohan key will see points credited directly to their account over the next few business days. You will not need to contact customer service to receive your points. They will be granted automatically.

Additionally, some players had questions about the instance cluster coming after the launch of RoR. While we are still not ready to talk about the details of the cluster we did want to confirm that we will be releasing a new instance cluster in an update after Rohan launches, and that the cluster will be free to all players who have purchased the Riders of Rohan expansion.

This may be a case of "Too little, too late" for many, but it is an improvement. I personally still don't see RoR - even with the changes you describe above - as being a good value when compared to other expansions coming onto the market this year, but I applaud Turbine for listening to their players and making a solid effort to fix things.

See, there we go. No point difference between basic and heroic is fine, too, since the Heroic is now the clear choice for people who don't already have the quest packs it comes with and getting those for an extra $10 is a good deal.

Deciding to give the instance cluster to everyone who purchased the expansion will go miles and miles in terms of pleasing people who were rightly upset about the cluster not being included in the expansion's purchase price.

That said, I'm still not ordering this thing because I still don't know if I get the instance cluster for free as a VIP if I decide to spend some TP on the expansion content.

Edit: just realized after I submitted - if people who purchase the expansion are now getting the instance cluster, does that include people who opt to buy the "expansion content" (really strange wording there, as it's neither an expansion nor a quest pack) with TP? Or will that be a separate TP cost for the cluster?

Looks like new quest pack, called Riders of Rohan is not selling to well.

This raises one last question: Since the cluster is still considered part of a later update and not RoR, do VIP players who do NOT pre-purchase RoR also get it free?

Good job, Turbine. There's one thing I respect a lot and this is being able to rectify a mistake. The added TP and the inclusion of the instance cluster as part of the expansion purchase will go a long way to appeasing upset players.

As with Isengard, the cluster is included with the expansion, though it will ship in a later update. It will not be free if you do not purchase the Rohan expansion.

Agreed. Maybe releasing the details first, then allowing several days for FAQs and feedback before opening pre-orders would be the way to go in the future.

This is excellent news, Sapience. I think this will go a long way in showing the players that Turbine cares and that it listens to the community. I've already purchased my expansion, so I can't wait to see those TP's rolling in. Thank you!

This is my question, too. From what they've said so far, I'm under the impression that the announced in-game store "expansion content" item will be solely the questpack, and that the instance cluster will appear as a separate in-game store purchase. If that's the case, I'd expect to see an "expansion bundle" in the store that bundles these items. I can live without specific details on pricing, but I would like to see some official confirmation that my impression is accurate (or false, if that's the case).

My guess? They were trying something new, to see if it would fly. Not only didn't it fly, it crash-landed rather harshly. The player base offered up their thoughts about it, Turbine allowed those conversations to proceed, even the heated ones, and the result is that they re-thought their decisions. All speculation of course, but that's my feeling.

But they did have a change of heart, which is all we can really ask for, yes? So indeed, many thanks to Turbine for listening to the players.

Thank you for clarifying that it actually is considered part of the expansion now (it explicitly was not before). Your OP didn't make that clear.

While I appreciate Turbine realizing, and correcting their mistake I can't help but wonder why the change. I think that sales haven't been that great and the community was in an uproar. As a founder, and someone who has pre-ordered every other expansion etc, I couldn't bring myself to do it here. Why? Because RoR did not look like a value - especially at $70.

Even though I read this as PR spin, I still give Turbine kudos for actually making a change in the right direction.
