I recently leveled my Captain (Golil) to 75. Admittedly, I was a bit disappointed. I guess I was expecting a little magic (or a parade or something?) lol I am looking to raid but I am not 100% confident if my toon is ready. I have read through some threads on raiding. Are there hints, tips, or expectations I should prepare for as a raiding Captain? I am sitting about 6500 Morale unbuffed with Might and Vitality a little over 800. Please share your thoughts!
If you can get on a dragon run you would be in good shape. Dragon is pretty easy, and most people already have the head and shoulders tokens, so generally when we run it people get both pieces if they need it.
Then you can get started with the dragon set which adds a lot of might to your build.
You'll also want to start doing Limlight Gorge to get Kindred, and then you can get the jewelry set from there which is pretty good.
Might! Stack loads and loads of might, as much as you can get... BUT, don't neglect your morale completely. My own personal rule is to be above 10k morale fully buffed with Hope banner and healing gear. I have 2106 might and 897 Vitality right now which puts me at 10.930 morale and 46% outgoing healing (selfbuffed, hope banner healing gear, no scrolls).
(A big morale-pool is good to have at endgame raiding, not only to be able to take some aoe or positional damage, but also when using In Harms Way)
One thing i did notice at lvl 75 was how easy it was to run out of power, so make sure you do something to avoid it, myself i choose to get two crafted bracelets (Exquisite Great River Bracelet of Skill) which gives me both a nice ICPR boost (111x2) but also raises my crit rating a bit (462x2).
Yep stack might a lot, but don't forget your vitality.
You need at least 10k morale with banner of hope equipped, but might is very important for your healing.
For the draigoch it doesn't matter much really, as long as you don't have to heal the tank just yet.
Make sure to roll on the tokens & get gear from adventurer quartermaster in Galtrev.
If you get geared up a bit more you should be able to run wings in a good group & then get your orthanc gear.
And for cappy don't forget to try and get a "buff-stick" wich has motivating speech +5% (10% in total) and parry rating & crit rating maxed out if possible.
So to summarize: get gear from quartermaster & tokens from draigoch, stack on might & vitality and make sure your in combat power regen is strong.
Get your LI's in order, #1. Here's what I'd say your minimum expectations are: On main hand, To Arms maxed. 10% Telling Mark (though if you make it plain that you'll be using 20% revealing mark from Draigoch you can get by, maybe). 10% motivate. Crit buff better than 900. For emblem: RC cooldown and Vocal Skills healing maxed. Those are what I'd call the minimum. There's a lot more you can do to be rounded out. Also I'd never go red traited without SL cooldown maxed.
Traits? Fellowship Brother every time. Now For Wrath and Relentless optimism basically every time. Then you got a choice to go HoH, LtC, or rainbow for the rest of your traits. Honestly, starting off I'd say go HoH, but look into the other set ups. Reason being: People are going to want HoH and while they might listen to a vet captain saying "Uh, no. I'm traiting Rainbow/MoW for Draigoch/T1 ToO," they won't listen to a fresh 75 capt. So get your sealegs before you branch out. HoH is safe.
Gear? Exemplar's set and Martyr's set from Great River are awesome. Run some moria/elf skirm raids to get some nice might/crit bracelets. And it's hard to go wrong with the 5-piece Draigoch set.
On main hand, To Arms maxed. 10% Telling Mark (though if you make it plain that you'll be using 20% revealing mark from Draigoch you can get by, maybe). 10% motivate. Crit buff better than 900.
... Just don't put the first two on the same weapon as the last two.
A spaceship from another star / They ask me where all the people are
I tell them I'm the only one / There was a war, but I must have won
nobody's mentioned crit.
Crit's important. And I don't mean the legacy, I mean your personal crit levels.
It's not easy to find items with crit at first, but as you gear out you'll want to gravitate to items that have crit & might.
Also 8k morale after your buffs is enough to do virtually anything. (assuming untraited hope banner is equipped, but not placed)
A hope token will boost you further. As will the hope banner being set down. More morale is better, but at some point you start sacrificing other stats.
Also... 8k morale as a base (before the +500 from banner and the +5% from a hope token) is more than enough to keep you alive in even the most aoe heavy raids.
> 1700 might min
> 10000 morale moreless as other said when buffed
Li's are very important for captains. I myself have 3 sets x2 for each traitline. (Weapon + emblem) but I only play captain...
For a person starting I would advice you get 2 weapons: 1 Buff and 1 to use, that way you dont ''waste'' 3 legacies in your main weapon (motivation, parry, critical)
All my weapons have to arms & press max targets... To arms is essential at anytime and max targets gives you more targets what means more critical chances what means more enemy defeat skills... Emblem someone alreayd said, RC coldown and vocal healing are a must.
About gear pvp gear 3 set Perseverance is pretty epic making your rallying cry at 6seconds coldown + all other enemye defeat skilsl at less 20% cd.
There is 1 trait I always run with: Defiance. Whatever happens if I need use harms way I will never get defeated since last stand has more time then hw.
Traits lets see... If you are new and dont want have power problems just spam inspire song brother and your power bar wont move...
Apart from that, start learning & play however it please you! Keep safe!
One thing that was missed, the build-your-own necklace from the Ox-Clan camp - fairly easy to get if you run the non-raid Isengard instances, and a pretty good necklace for a captain.

Well you didn't go into much detail about what kind of Captain you play or what kind of role you are wanting to accomplish in a Raid - so it's difficult to go into much detail here.
But from what you have told us, I would say 6500 morale might be a little low for raiding, so I would try to increase that some more if you can before jumping into a raid.
Also, you seem to imply that Might and Vitality are the only stats you worry about - so I'd like to point out other stats matter too, especially in raids - so I woudn't forget about Agility, Fineese, ICPR and all that other stuff. They can make a big difference as well.
I have been a solo player for the most part however I would like to be flexible enough to fulfill whatever role is needed at the time.
If you do the gear right, you can run with a single set for LtC, HoH, and non-capstone builds (or at least, all the same jewelry, only swapping out armor).
LoM itself needs a vastly different set of stats than the other two.
I have a similar build to Retarius, jewellery is Limlight Gorge, rep vendor or skirmish drop... i don't think a massive morale build is required, i've managed to accomplish all of Orthanc in T2 using this setup.
Usual Build;
Buffing / Clickey Stuff
I buff the group with the ToO Motivating speech buff also for the extra 10% tactical mitigation. I tend to tailor my build to the content, i'm running 5 blues, 2 yellow and Oathbreaker, Fellowship Brother and idome - no cap stone.
Outgoing healing is 48.5%
Melee Crit is 21.1%
I agree the Draigoch armour is a decent set to begin with, the Moors set is far superior in the long run due to the 20% reduction to all on defeat skills.
Having the Escape from Darkness set, trait and legacy is beneficial also as it reduces the CD to 2.5mins.
Hope this helps.

Pretty much like this but had no time to write it
But for raids i tend to use Command set to increase group DPS by 10% ,find it more useful than decreased cooldown on 'on defeat' skills (unless you have second captain with this set, silly thing doesn't stack ).
Others have talked about gear...and they are much better at it than I am. My head starts to ache if I sit and compare sets too much. To be honest, a lot of raid content in this game has been conquered by under-geared players that stayed focused, knew their skills, and were ready in the other aspects of raiding.
Raid content is a different beast from even regular fellowships. You'll really learn what "support role" means by being a captain in a raid.
You don't say if you've grouped much. With that in mind, I offer a few tips to help you feel a bit less "noob." My apologies if you already know some of this from raiding in other games. If you can't use the info, perhaps another reader will find something in it enlightening.
Through the Options>Combat Options panel, activate the following:
Enable Skill Target Forwarding
Show Vitals of Selection's Target
Directional Selection Indicator
Show Assist Window
Turn off (because you don't want to be attacking anything unless it's the raids target):
Auto Target Enemies
Allow Skill Buttons to Target Nearest Enemy
and possibly Skills Can Enable Default Attack (this one is situational for classes, but I prefer it off so I don't accidentally wake up something mezzed)
Your character should be level appropriate for the content and "raid ready." While the term raid ready can have different meanings for different groups, in general:
Virtues: should have max level on general virtues being used. A wide range of level capped virtues should be available, to be able to switch to match the battle content being attempted.
Class virtues should all be finished.
Class quests should be done and character should have access to various legendary skills.
Try to have the best armour available. A teal crafted set is a good option if you don't have access to raid/instance gear.
As a captain, be sure your banners are crit-quality top level.
Legendary Items should be appropriate for group play and match the level of content (i.e.: level 75 LI's for level 75 content). Relics should be slotted, and available points distributed (remember to redistribute points after reforging!). Depending on the group leader, you may not be required to have the ultimate LI's possible for your class for raiding, but what you have should be in good order.
In addition, your character should bring various consumables:
Potions: FULL STACKS. Don't show up at a raid with 10 morale or power pots and have to ask for someone to sell/trade with you. If you don't use all the wound potions in one fight, chances are you'll use them the next round.
Food: stat buff, damage mitigation, or regen food (type depends on class and content)
Scrolls of warding and battle appropriate to the level. Everyone in the raid should be prepared to offer these, not just the leader (it's an unnecessary burden on a raid leader to also be handing out consumables.)
Hope tokens (see note above about consumables and leaders)
Class-related consumables, for example the battle tonics.
Raid communication conventions:
In-game voice quality declines as the group grows in size. Many raids will use an out-of-game voice application. Download an install a variety of voice programs so you are always ready to go: TeamSpeak, Ventrilo, Mumble are a few that are very popular right now. It saves a lot of time and impresses raid leaders if you have these installed and can just put in the login/channel info and be up and running. If you've never used the applications before, find a friend to use them with in advance so you are used to the settings.
BE SURE to set it up for "push-to-talk" so you have to push a button to broadcast your speaking. No voice-activated raid chat settings unless you are the leader.
Find out the loot rules in advance. No arguing with raid leaders/organizers once things have started. If you have an issue with attendance, outcome of loot rolls/distribution, or any other aspect of the raid, wait until afterwards and then discuss it with the raid leader or an officer of the kin hosting the event (if it is kin related).
Check with the raid leader in advance about expectations for legendary skills, trait lines, etc. While they shouldn't assume you will have various skills traited, you shouldn't assume they can remember to ask each member about such details. It's a lot of work coordinating a raid...herding cats. Try to be a helpful member, not a diva.
Discussion of strats and possible tips/tricks during breaks are generally welcomed, but once the raid leader makes the plan of attack, discussion should halt and the raid get back to work. Be polite when offering strat ideas.
Ask for clarification BEFORE the pull if you really aren't crystal clear on what is happening. Try to stay focused so you don't have to ask for the strat to be repeated too often.
Battle chatter ONLY during combat. All combat chat should be directly related to the battle at hand.
Try to keep social chatter to a minimum between the pulls. It slows down the raid enormously if we are stopping to chat after each pull. It takes time for the leader to establish focus again and lay out the strat for the next pull.
Most important...have FUN! There is something very special about an epic recovery, a well timed dance with a big boss, and that moment when the screen says "You have defeated *insert name of huge monster*!" for the first time. Even the failures should be fun--well-made attempts with a lot learned in the process.
Last tip: know where you get the most discount on repairs.

Just wanted to say a quick thanks to everyone who's contributed to the advice on this thread - I raided a little at level 65 on my captain, but not much... and a lot's changed since then. So as another new level 75, cheers to everyone who's put some tips up here
I also wanted to thank everyone. I have not been what you would refer to as a 'raider' ever since I came from that childish 'other game' over 3 years ago. I am just now getting into joining in on 12 man runs, and this information is great. Thank you! I have a bit of work to do, but knowing what I need to do is a great relief.

I would have to agree with what most people have put on here as to how to go about setting yourself up. Maley's last comment about getting the right jewelry is really gonna be your strong point, depending on how you end up playing. There are many times when as a captain you will need to be the main healer, especially in a 3-man. There are other times when you say F-that I wanna be LtC. My advice to you would be gain situational awareness, you can only do this by experience. Once you are familiar with how your cappy will respond and affect the outcome of whatever raids you will be doing, then adjust your traits for that. With that said, you need to know your traits. The captain's 2 MOST important are vitality and might (not really a specific order because again depends on the situation.) I would really advise you not to forget to have good agility for crits and increased hit chance... from other posts people are saying to have at least 500. Crit chance will save your bacon in a raid and soloing. Your muster courage heals double when they crit, you will get more Rally Cries off, you will deal more damage, and your healing to other group members will be increased. People talk about the slow DPS on captain's, well that can be true, but get a cappy who crits 4 out of 5 hits, and traited with LtC, he can hit pretty d%$* hard.
I agree about having a buff stick, I would recommend it being a 1-hander that way you can sword and board if you need to. Lets say you pick up a lot of adds from healing, the extra stats from the shield will help you, as well as the block rating (if your might is good), But dont just neglect the buff stick either, make it well rounded for that random time you find yourself needing to sword and board for a little bit. I am sure most of us who have only played a captain for the last 5 years could talk you blue in the face about what you should do, but I suggest getting the basics of the class, and then learning it on your own, and see what works best.
As far as armor goes. Moors armor is relatively easy to get. Duo with a hunter, burg, or RK, kill lots of stuff, do quests, and depending on your play style get the armor of your choice. I however recommend that every cappy should have 5 pieces of command armor for the finesse and the 10% outgoing damage to target (Great for group raids, and solo) and get 3 pieces of perseverance for the defeat event cool downs. If you want to live forever, get 2 pieces of loyalty armor as well. This is a good one for soloing. More to come....
