As this is a suggestion, I first that I should post in the Suggestion Forum. However, since it is about Wardens, I feels like it could equally go in the Wardens Forum. A coin toss put it here....
I have searched the Forum archives for a post on this topic, after finding nothing that addresses the topic, I move forward with this proposal. It isn't much of a surprise because it is part of the title of this post but here goes....
I think that it would be great if there was an AoE Threat component to Ambush.
I know that when tanking, Wardens can prepare a strong AoE Threat builder and then launch an Ambush attack. So that when the poor subject of the ambush goes down, Warden can run in shouting threatening and, dare I say, unpleasant insults at the ambushee's friends. I remember the days before Prep and you ambushed a mob in a mob and his, or her, buddies ran past you to go beat on the healer. They sucked......
But wouldn't it be great if the very act of ambushing was a threatening act? The non-recipients were so surprised and angry that they attack the one person responsible for such effrontery. Some like this....
4 Orcs who are "on-guard" are standing around discussing various topics. The flash of a javelin goes wizzing by and one goes down in a heap. And then, what I suspect is a very quick conversation...
Orc 1, "Steve!"
Orc 2, "What happened?!?!"
Orc 1, "I dunno! Steve just went down like a sack of potatoes!"
Orc 3, "Man! Whoever did this is gonna pay! We lost our 4th for the upcoming bowling tourny!"
Orcs 1 & 2, "Yeah! Let's get 'em!!"
Then they go attack the one responsible for it!
The upshot to this is that it would allow Wardens a bit more versatility in the Prep pre-stage of combat. Ádditionally, I recognize that what I am suggesting is not unlike JoDF without having to use a Legendary trait slot but that seems like a good thing!
For the sake of balance, perhaps include the AoE Threat feature of Ambush on Way of the Fist.
Well it comes with the stun, which gives you ~3s to do whatever you need to. BP an EoB beforehand, ambush, EoB on the way in, CS, circle around for positional WoF. That should give you some decent burst damage up front, plus EoB building ToT, so by the time the stun wears off you should have and be able to hold aggro with our usual tools. Or EoB and then mastery a SoV before they get up.
I dont think there needs to be bonus threat on Ambush, that'd just make it a little too ez-mode, you wouldnt have to worry about establishing threat using our threat skills, which is kinda the whole point of our ToTs.
