Frequently used Emotes
Sometimes I see players interacting with each other using emotes. One player may kiss another only to be slapped in the face with a cold fish. While a third player laughs and toasts them both with a mug of ale. I'm wondering if there is a way to make a kind of emote favorites list that is not so cumbersome as the one at the bottom of the chat window. If someone waves to me by the time I find the emote to wave back they are long gone.

Re: Frequently used Emotes
Well, you can use shortcuts by typing in your chat window : /hello or /something
Another way : aliases

Re: Frequently used Emotes
aliases imho are to string together a chain of actions or emotes
if you want to use a single emote type them as a slash command ie /fishslap, /mood_mischievous, /dance_hobbit
usualy emotes which form 2 or more words the space is replaced by an underscore
ie dance hobbit becomes dance_hobbit
but you sill need know which emotes are available to use
see here for a full list of emote slash commands emotes
http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Emote
you can also makeup your own emotes by using the /em before a sting of text these ofcourse will have no animation and will only place a sting of text into the chat window. this is a good example of what you may want to use an alias for
ie
/em pushes [target] into the river
will display the following in the chat window
[your name] pushes [who or what youve targed] into the riverLast edited by Finglonger_UK; Jun 13 2012 at 05:03 AM.

Re: Frequently used Emotes
Actually, the Coders had the foresight to allow 3 different ways to express a custom emote:
/emote...Any of those, followed by ''what your character does'', will work, and result in showing ''{Your Character Name} + {your typed text}". Anything and everything can be achieved this way.
/em...
/e...
Beyond that, there are a few useful ones that one can memorize -
/bowand so on - whatever you think is useful enough to memorize.
/kneel
/sit
/dance (or "/danceX", where X is your preferred variation)
/laugh
/groan
/nod
/smoke
/fishslap (if you bought that emote recently, during the Spring Fest)
Many allow you to target someone/something, and the /emote will reflect that - ''{Character} bows deeply" becomes "{Character} bows deeply to _____" - just make sure you don't have some object targeted, or you will be bowing to mailboxes or the door you just came thru, etc. (Also, some /emotes do not always do what you might expect them to do - test some out in a friendly atmosphere before using them in serious RP. Trust me on that one.)

Re: Frequently used Emotes
Thank you all. That is exactly what I wanted to know.
I have a couple follow up questions about typing in the chat window. Often times while in fellowship battles I see messages from the other players in the chat window. How are they able to focus on the battle at hand and still type instructions in the chat box?
Also, while in a fellowship but not in battle, players message back and forth while galloping along together in a group. How are they able to do that without stopping. When I try it all I get is about a hundred wwwwwwww.
I also have one unrelated question about using the Reply with Quote option in this forum. How do you isolate just a portion of the post you want to respond to?

Re: Frequently used Emotes
it takes a lot of practice

or depending on the chat sometimes it may be assigned to a alias which could then be bound to skill bar slot.
ie you may see somebody shout "heal me now" or "attack my target"
see this for instructions on how to setup aliases for such a function

lol been there done thatAlso, while in a fellowship but not in battle, players message back and forth while galloping along together in a group. How are they able to do that without stopping. When I try it all I get is about a hundred wwwwwwww.
pressing the numlock key will make you or your horse run forward automatically or target the person in front then right click them and select follow. then your free to type as normal
you need to click the quote button but if you want to reference only part of the post you need to cut out \ delete the parts your not interested in but makesure the text is still surrounded by the open and closed quote tags [.quote] [/quote]I also have one unrelated question about using the Reply with Quote option in this forum. How do you isolate just a portion of the post you want to respond to?
if you want to quote several times in a post like this then you need to surround the text with [.quote] [./quote] at the beginning and ends (exclude the '.' though) if you want to reference a posters name use [.quote={posters name} ] insted of the first [.quote]tag. this is very handy if your doing a quick cut and paste from several different posts by different people
if you quote a post youll be shown how things should be setup, quote tags are automatically added at the start and end of whatever you choose to quote

Re: Frequently used Emotes
The Emotes are Frequently used when you want to say something, with a code write in the chat box:
Actually, 3 different ways to express a custom emote are:
/emote...
/em...
/e...
Some of the Frequently used Emotes are:
/bow
/kneel
/sit
/dance
/laugh
/groan
/nod
/smoke
And much more!

Re: Frequently used Emotes
This was sort of touched on in the link posted by Finglonger, but it hasn't been directly discussed in the thread itself, so I'll go ahead and mention it!
You can simply create quickslot buttons for different emotes. I like to move the skill in my first quickslot box (#1) to another spot (so that it doesn't get replaced), then type, for example:
/shortcut 1 /wave
This makes a /wave button in quickslot box 1, which you can then move around to whereever you'd like it to be.

You can create an emote shortcut or an alias on any valid quickslot, numbers 1 thru 60. I keep 5 of my most used ones on the 5th bar.
For a detailed explanation of emotes, shortcuts, and aliases, see my Adder’s /Mood_y /Emotes Compendium in the Lorebook (link in my sig below). It's a bit outdated as far as the emotes list goes, but it's still viable as far as the instructions and general rules (been meaning to get it updated but just can't seem to find the time.
)
EDIT - There's also an emotes plugin called EMO which is quite useful. You can find it in the downloads section over at LotroInterface.com.Last edited by Adder; Jun 20 2012 at 03:09 AM.
