Thread: Is there any way I can make the UI not terrible?

First impressions of this game? UI is a pixelated, unorganised, clunky mess. I'm playing this on absolute max with high-res textures and the visuals are pretty goddamn mediocre. You'd think with all the graphics settings they would actually matter but it appears they do little to nothing.

CPU: Intel Corei5 2500k @ 4.1ghz
GPU: AMD HD6950 /w 6970 bios @ 910/1450 12.6 Beta Drivers.
RAM: 12GB DDR3 1600mhz G.Skill Ripjaws
SSD: 256GB Crucial M4 (Boot drive, LotRO here)
MoBo: Asus P8P67-M Pro
HDD 1: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB @ 7200rpm
HDD 2: Samsung Spinpoint F4 2TB @ 5600RPM
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

EDIT: I'm using the Steam version if that matters. I don't even know if I'm on high res textures. How do I tell?

Log in and look at t he UI. No screenshots needed. But a better explanation of the UI's major problems would be from this guy. Read this page, he lists a number of problems that I have with the UI.

if you dont like the way the UI looks take a look at some of the skins which are available on www.lotrointerface.com
the skins change the actual appearance of the interface but will not change the layout of the main UI.

if you scale up the interface then yes the icons will appear pixilated, id suggest filing a bug report as imho this should not be the case, but knowing turbine this is WAI. there maybe something more suitable on lotrointerface but afaik the skill icons can not be changed

As a new player to LotRO I *totally* agree with the blog post linked above. In my opinion, the LotRO interface is the biggest challenge facing me to adjust to.

I daresay veteran players are happy with it, but new blood in any MMO is vital to maintain its viability and longevity, and coming from other MMOs (in recent years: WoW, RIFT, SW:ToR to name the 3 biggest) it is hard to adjust to the small, pixelated icons.

I remember playing a Priest healer in instances and raids in WoW and RIFT and spending hours looking at nothing *but* the interface - watching players health, debuffs, etc. I couldn't do that here - my eyesight just wouldn't take it!
