I've been only lightly playing for about 18 months, so this weekend was the first time in a long time I've tried to have some extended LOTRO play. I'm making my way through the Gap of Rohan, hanging out east of Heathfells and in the Pit of Iron. Unfortunately, I had frequent crashes in many different areas, both early on in play sessions (when presumably heat wouldn't be an issue) and after some extended play (longest play session was probably 2 hours - so probably still shorter length by some standards!). Reading the forums, my sense is that this is probably a problem of software bugs, as it seems to be similar to others experiences, and my experience playing other games crash free (DCUO, SWTOR) makes me further suspicious that this is just a bug problem I can't fix, but I'm curious if there are any suggestion for anything I can pay attention to as I try to make sure I don't have anything wrong on my end.
Here's my rough specs:
i5-2500k
4 gb ram
4850 graphics card
Win 7-64
on board sound card
Here's what I've been addressing
Drivers - all updated
Heat - I run a passive cooler on the GPU, and it hovers around 45-50 when under full load. I am adding two more fans in the case this week. I also ran two sessions with the desktop wide open, and it didn't prevent the crashing.
Power - I have no means of checking my power supply, but I replaced this a few months ago (700w I believe), and it runs fine in everything else I play.
Dust - I'm getting some compressed air this week and will clean out my desktop in case this is a contributing factor.
Anything other recommendations on things I should pay attention to on my end?
This has been happening to me for the past two weeks as well after never crashing once in four years of playing LoTRO. I've noticed other people complaining of the same thing so I doubt it's your computer.
Thanks. I think it defaulted to high, but I'll dial it down and see if that impacts it. I tried this weekend dialing down the resolution, but it didn't make an impact.
I guess the solace in hearing that others are encountering this is that I may not be crazy! Thanks.
