    Role-playing on Arkenstone

Hey! Just a shout-out to those on Arkenstone. Would anyone be interested in joining me for some long-term role-playing? I find it very hard to find role-players on Arkenstone and already have my characters established there. So if you are like me and want to do some long-term role-playing, give me a shout.

    Re: Role-playing on Arkenstone

From what I have read, Laurelin is the official RP server and Landroval is the unofficial. What this means I don't know. I do know that they advertise events all the time on those servers, so maybe roll a toon on one of them just to RP at the events. They have them every week by what I have read.

When Codemasters ran the European servers Laurelin was designated as a roleplaying server. Turbine didn't designate any servers for roleplaying so the players decided they'd use Landroval.

I will tell you what it means for my knowledge might be what you seek, but you may not know it, yet.

The Official RP servers (Laurelin is the only English-speaking one) benefit from the Roleplaying Rules and Policy of Turbine while the unofficial ones dont and that for many can be important for many reasons as you can read in this Official Thread here on the forums.

I will explain some of that and hope it brings more understanding. - There are many good results that come from those extra set of rules that the Official RP realms benefit from:

    > Naming and chat rules to preserve the atmosphere of the Lord of the Rings/Middle-earth and provide an enjoyable experience for roleplayers, (and even non-rpers) thus you dont see people running about with ridiculous/silly and lore-insulting names, such as Goofyhero, carrotsoup or Legoolasv. Even if you do, can easily report for naming violation and a GM will sooner or later usually change it - This is an immense difference from any other non-RP (Official) server
    > Also, if a player is harassing, disparaging, abusing, or threatening other players because they are roleplaying they can be reported and Turbine will take further action according to the rules
Warnings for start and if those who choose to disturb roleplayers or events, continue to do so, they can even get a block from the Official Roleplay-supported worlds ( Laurelin [EN-RP] - Belegaer [DE-RP] - Estel [FR-RP] )

This, partly at least, has generally prevented those folk with ill intentions or behaviour (or commonly known as 'trolls') to join the Official RP servers and because I cant speak for the other two, I will do so about Laurelin, where I have been for quite awhile now.

The kind of immature and 'trollish' behaviour/attitude and talk I have seen many times on other servers (I have played on quite a few) rarely do I ever see that on Laurelin. Also rpers there have every right to be on that server and the non-RP community knows that well (from what I have seen) and shows respect to that.
I am saying this because on other servers (unofficial RP realms) with some RP flavour in them dont have this luck/blessing. Those that dont roleplay will often mock those who do and try annoy/trouble the events/concerts and rp sessions. And due to lack of RP policy and rules as you might have read by now, this cant be helped much (at least not permanently) and the RP community has to endure that (not always of course, but it happens and its not rare at all) or flee to an Official RP server to get advantage of those advantages, mentioned above

All that (partly at least) has shaped nicely the Laurelin server (I cant speak for the French and German servers, I have no experience with those) from the very beginning, its creation, many years ago and it continues to do so and will always do (until LotRO ades away that is..)

~ There is also the Laurelin Archives a wonderful resource and imo its actually a piece of art. The community has add so much nice artistic stuff in there, from poetry/riddles to entire storylines and character backstories and adventures. Music also shows itself proudly in many of the pages there, to please the ears of the reader.
    Its worth having a look.

~ The server has as well, a resource chat-channel in-game for all the fans of Tolkien's magical, mythical world (that can mean non-rpers too) and roleplayers. It is a place to be among other like-minded folk and discuss & learn with others all about the books and Roleplay.Additionally there is a 24h event that occurs there that many fans of the books like, the ''Tolkien Reading Day''. There have been so many great discussions/conversations there.. but it is best to have a look at the Official Page for it to understand more.

As for events, they do occur there almost everyday and most of them as one can see on LAs and the Laurelin forum are lore-based, for a more true to the books immersive experience, which is the great difference from events on any other servers.
( - And no you dont have to be an expert in lore/RP in order to join this server, everyone is welcomed and the community is very friendly to those that at least wish to learn )

I apologize for the long text, (get a coffee and have a sit!) but I felt the need to let you (and others) know. I hope this might help at least even a bit for those that dont know, to understand more.

    Cheers!

    Ideal Plan

Ok, Manspeil that sounds great. To clarify, my ideal plan would be to level up while rping and do the game's story together. I can help get you up to my level if you need it.

    CRIS:

That is the best response I've ever ever seen regarding RP play. I'm wondering if you would be willing to put it into the Laurelin server forum and start a post called "Questions about Role Playing Servers??" or something like that. I actually would like to see it stickied somewhere. I have no idea why it's so difficult to get info about RP.

I launched a character on Laurelin there the other day, and was so happy to have someone greet me as I landed! I was given basic info about the server and links to the archives etc. I sure hope they have someone there all the time! The lower levels are pretty busy compared to other places. I just need to find out where everyone is posting as the chat channels are dead-silent and I'm afraid to post to them.

Currently the turbine options for servers do not have a popup when you choose the server nor is there a clear explanation of the capital letters after a server in the login area. In the past you would get a daily message telling you which was the designated server for new players that day.

If there was a message explaining that the capital letters meant it was dedicated rp I"m sure there would be a much larger percentage of players going into the RP servers.

I chose Arkenstone based on what was suggested when I was in original log in screen, and the first server I went to (this was in OB) was so totally dead.

I assumed that there would also be others RPing on occasion but was so wrong. Now I've got my friends on the Ark and can't bring myself to leave. Arkenstone was (probably still is) the "un-official" server designated by an incredibly large group of very serious WoW players. So it's a wonderful place to play, there's never been any real shenanigans in our OOC other than back in the days of the Gold Farmers spamming it.

It's a very adult population with zero teenager/children players since the early days. I think they just get lonely. Our teen boys if they are here keep it on the down low at least. I haven't blocked a player in 4 years.

Been on Arkenstone since the beginning, spent some time in Riddermark later on but now back to Ark.

I do some RPing at a small scale with my two other real-life friends though nothing outside our trio before as the server doesn't present much opportunities. Would be interested in joining others.

Add me in-game perhaps (Ainurin, Swifty and Hammo) and we can get a chat room going.

I'm on Arkenstone, but if it were just up to me I would have chosen a more RP-friendly server. About half of my kinship (Glavrol nin Celon) is people who would like to roleplay if we got a chance, but since the other half is mostly people with a lot of previous MMO experience and a less positive attitude towards using an MMO to roleplay, we picked Arkenstone so we could all get into the same kinship.

I had figured that I would have to ignore people named Peanutbutterandjelly but that I would still have some chances to roleplay even on a server not designated for the purpose, but I have found it's nearly impossible to get anything started. Even having my elf character say "mae gavonnen" in kinship chat falls flat. Sometimes I roleplay with the NPCs in drama solo instances. Kind of embarrassing to admit that.

AFAIK, every server has some RP events. Problem is, on many non-RP designated servers, you have to actively look for RP-minded people in kinships, kin-advertising, forums and like, to find an ongoing RP. The server-specific forums down below is a good help finding like-minded people.

Last year, Turbine did a lot of promotional RP activities for the launch of Rohan - player held horse races, plays, concerts, puzzle and riddle games, and more. I believe Arkenstone was one of non-RP servers who took part in this event, aso there is serious RPers on server.

Good luck, and dont stop looking for it.

Best way - try organize something wth your friends, and dont ever let nay-sayers and trolls take you down.

PS. If you spot hobbits Grutha or Cotca on Arkenstone, give me a tell

Thank you, Turbine, for listening and giving us an opt-out of FE! Good work!
