Visual guide on how to use Lotro on an ipad
The easiest tool on the ipad to use for MMO gaming is called Splashtop. It is normally $3.99, but can sometimes be found for free.
Step 1: Download and install Splashtop on your PC and ipad

Step 2: Link it to your gmail so you can reach your PC via the internet
Step 3: Log into your gaming PC with Lotro installed
Step 4: Go to the Documents\Lord of the rings online folder and double tap (doubleclick) teh UserPrefrences folder, open with notepad if you have not opened the file before.

Step 5: Edit the line Windowedresolution=1024x768 This resolution is needed to fit the ipad screen
Step 6: Edit the line Fullscreen=False (to go back to normal mode change this back to true)

Step 7: Close and save the file
Step 8: Log into lotro
Now a few things are different, being a touchscreen the onscreen keyboard is a problem. To get around this a Bluetooth keyboard will help you do more than just walk around, open your invintory, craft, buy/sell.
The WASD and up down left right keys are nearly useless as holding the button down does not translate well, so Splashtop has onscreen buttons for these.
Example:
If you notice the toolbars are sqished together if you do not normally play at 1024x768 and this could be a problem. You will not be able to raid, or likely even group. However you could log yourself in a low population or low level area and farm mobs, farm/cook, craft, or even mine nodes in low level lands.
I find this method useful because I farm late at night, and wake up, go to work and start my guy refining and cooking when I remember to do it. It just takes 30 seconds to repair his tool, and get him crafting again.
I would also like to use this forum as a discussion for others who have used ipads, iphones, and droid tablets/phones to play lotro. I am always looking for new ideas and ways to play, this just happens to work for my needs.

Re: Visual guide on how to use Lotro on an ipad
I run Splashtop THD on my ASUS Transformer Prime when I'm traveling on business. That way I can use the Prime's attachable keyboard/battery and a USB mouse for a much more enjoyable experience. It plays just fine at 1280x800, and I've never had any issues with the toolbars/hotbars being squished when doing so. That may be an Apple bug.
Either way, I definitely wouldn't go raiding under this setup, but for general playing it's more than adequate. Maybe one time I'll hook it up via mHDMI to a TV in the hotel and see how well that works.

And here I've been thinking I was clever for getting LotRO to run on my netbook with an Atom processor and 2 gigs of memory.

Re: Visual guide on how to use Lotro on an ipad
I havent tried any other resolutions, it just seems 1024x768 fit well so I left it at that. The squishing of the toolbars is due to the fact that I normally play at 1680x1050 while fullscreen.
We have a Transformer at work that I could use, do you have the same problem with the keyboard arrows not working or is that a ios/splashtop problem?

Re: Visual guide on how to use Lotro on an ipad
I grabbed the company Asus Transformer and threw Splashtop HD on it. The feel is different and triple tapping for the keyboard was a chore to get going, but 1280x800 seems to be a great resolution for it.

I think this is worth revisiting. Thanks to the OP, I tried this app. Its a little different now.
First, its now $20.00, however it was on sale this weekend (not sure if over) for $6.99.
Second, the app now requires an account which costs 0.99 cents per month. This is only required IF you want to access off your local network. (i.e. if you want to use the internet to access your host PC). There is a plan for 12 months for $9.99 if you prefer that.
I did not have to follow any setup instructions. The newer app automatically sent the app at 1024x768 and set it to windowed, although other games may have setup instructions. (Rift required turning off full screen).
This will not be a workable solution for grouping. Its ideal for crafters or for finishing up those grey deeds/quests... mostly crafting
I just wanted to chime in with the changes and to state that I have tried it and it does work (albeit with caveats).
Thanks for the suggestion.

That is very disappointing news. I've had Splashtop THD on my Transformer Prime and now my Transformer Infinity for months, but hadn't yet gone to the newer version. I haven't seen anything about needing an account that has a monthly fee attached, and yet I've still been able to connect remotely to at least one of my two systems using it. I may have accidently updated the streamer on the other one of them, I'm not sure.
Anyway, I used it quite extensively while traveling on business in February and March of this year, which allowed me to do crafting, grind deeds, etc. But coming across the Internet to my PC at home, then back out across the Internet to the LotRO servers made it difficult to handle more than 1-2 mobs at a time. It could get a bit laggy, and I'd never want to do a raid or group with it. I was also really excited to try it out of my Infinity since it has a 1920x1200 resolution whereas the Prime only did 1280x800. Unfortunately, Splashtop THD on supports a max resolution of 1280x800, so that was a bust.
It sounds like Splashtop has pretty much run out of usefulness these days. I never much saw the point of using Splashtop to play a game while I'm on my home network since I can just go upstairs to my office and get a 24" 1920x1200 full-screen experience (as opposed to a 10" 1280x800 windowed and with latency). The only real benefit to this tool was being able to play remotely when you're NOT on your home network, but if they're going to charge you for the privilege after already charging you through the nose for the app then I say "good riddance".
