Thread: What happens to your character if you logout to late in server shut down?

I was playing on a server and then the world was gonna shut down, very shortly before it did I logout and when I did, the log out took sometime and then it says lost connection to server and my logout did not finish....
So im worried I will lose my data?
Will i lose my data or not?

I can't say with 100% accuracy, but my guess would be no.

From past experience the worst case I've encountered was the server not having me at the proper location when I logged back in.
I was in the Trollshaws trying finish a quest, when I realized how little time was left, so I ported to Rivendell and the server basically shutdown soon after. When they came back up some hours later I logged in and was still in the TS wilderness instead of Rivendell. Everything else was fine.

I would assume when they do maintenance they have a very recent back up of everything, but that back up may not be right up to the second of shutdown.

The worst thing that might happen is that you find you character at the rez circle if you engaged in a fight during the shutdown. Absolutely nothing to be worried about. Consider the "find the safe spot" message as a sign of precaution of our times, like the imbecile combination of words "CAUTION" and "HOT" on a cup of coffee.

Except when you are level 19 and trying to get to a safe place, then when the server comes back you find yourself in a rez circle and have lost your "Undying" title. It happened to me, my teleport was on cool down and I had to run back and didn't make it in time! I never knew what killed me.

well I was in a safe place, I was in the town hall of Bree, well just outside. No fights, so its okay. :3
