I was thinking about the "Scourging of the Shire" and had a thought about housing "instanced" areas. These could serve as the maps for skirmishes set around invasions where we'd be defending our homesteads. No, we wouldn't be allowed to enter our own houses or see decorations we have set up personally, but the spaces could be set up to allow offensives from the front gate by us to drive out the invaders, culminating in defending a counterattack at that same front gate after sweeping around the map. I think it would be an interesting way to kick off any possible revamps (or to "tease" them when you eventually do release updates to housing). It wouldn't have to come right away.
I did read that a possible Rohan housing area was being considered. In that event, there would HAVE to be stables at our own homes, though those didn't have to include travel. If stables were included, they'd have to showcase at least a selection of our own mounts. If stables were included, we'd have to be able to choose which ones appeared. These things might be greatly affected if people were to stop paying on the house or if they decided to move. We realize that, but if you're going to start thinking about housing, I'd hope you'd think first about the impacts. We DO want changes, but first thinking about the challenges is of course, the first step. Since we already have a travel skill directly to our house, we need a stable location immediately outside the housing instances that is two way and linked to all of the major hubs in the "home" region with swift travel. That is also a solution to having to worry about coding travel to individual housing locations and the headaches it would cause by someone constantly moving or having kin houses clamoring for their own large stables with travel. Also, a summoning horn and campsite immediately outside near the milestone may seem like overkill, but instead, it provides people with options.
I am quite sure this doesn't include all housing options and it's not as polished as the kinship revamp article, but I'm hoping that more people have been thinking of the impact and would like to share here as well.

That's why this sentence was in there. While I appreciate your two cents (and it isn't abundantly clear from the above sentence that I wasn't speaking of instanced areas where our housing was, though it certainly was implied), do you have anything to add or just like making negative comments on suggestions?
I don't see that as negative comment at all. I took it as a way of clarifying which housing instance this would take place in.
Basically, if it is a private skirmish instance, just like the ones for Tuckborough, Bree, Gondamon, etc, then yes.
If it was taking place in the "real world" public housing instance, then no.

I think I did carry in a little bias from previous experiences and I should apologize. I am sorry. I should have instead simply directly addressed the post, which is to say, absolutely in no way should the instances areas of housing be used. Just the maps - no public housing spaces. No one would see their own decorations or those of anyone else. It would not be in a neighborhood, but just the housing area in general. People could of course "pretend" that they are defending their homes, but no, there would not be any way that it would be appropriate for it to be a live housing instance as they currently exist.
Interesting idea, I like it. This would be a neat way to visit some of the other neighborhoods (I've only been in the dwarf one a couple times).
What about the setting would make the skirmish unique and special?
- Maybe which neighborhood you got would be random (with unique encounters for each one).
- You could be required to rescue some of the NPC "neighbors" who wander around (there could be a deed for each one). Then if you do save them, when you walk by them in your neighborhood later, they could thank you (like some NPCs do).
- Maybe get some water from the river/waterfall/etc to put out some houses on fire (I think all the neighborhoods have water, right?)

My main point on neighborhoods is that we wouldn't visit any, just the generic map. Encounters could be: save the town square buildings, protect the vault (similar to the one in 21st hall), beat the champions (half orcs and brigands for Bree and Shire, goblins and orcs in Ered Luin), dousing/lighting street lamps, warning/waking sleepy homeowners, lighting a beacon or sending word to the nearby villages...but not in one specific instance. It would lead to too many issues, whereas keeping it generic allows everyone to imagine it is their own.

Yeah, I got that - I didn't mean to imply otherwise. Funny how you thought I was, after other readers thought you were hehe...
When I said visit different neighborhoods, I didn't mean specific ones - I meant the generic elf/dwarf/hobbit/man ones.
