    Terribly Disappointed with Turbine

Here's my problem, I've tried becoming a VIP payer by paying by credit card, sadly an error message came up (Error 30005)

This I'm told is something to do with my IP address not matching up with the address listed on the card, I double checked with my bank that the details that were entered were correct and they were. I have since had a new computer at home and re-did it, as the IP address would be fresh and brand new to my home address, I guess. Alas it didn't work. So... I tried another card, and again the same Error message.

I opened a ticket and a number of things were suggested. I set up paypal in order to do it this way, I put funds on my paypal account and finally I made a payment ... or so I thought, alas the same error message (Error 30005) (with my paypal account of all things)

So... another suggestion was to phone up and they'd do it manually, sadly I'm based in the UK and the expense of phoning Turbine in the US would exceed the monthly payment. Another play kindly suggested phoning via skype as this would be cheaper, a great suggestion for any out there with the same problem, for me though I haven't got microphoned speakers and hence again, really don't want to go out and buy them for one phone call.

So .. another suggestion from Turbine was to Fax them with my card details as they didn't except them via e-mail... no worries I thought, great idea even, I went online to the many websites that offer a fax service in case you haven't got a machine, I sent the fax with all my details and looked forward to hearing from Turbine ... alas nothing ..

So ... I love Lotro ... but I don't half wish I was dealing with Codemasters or even blizzard, at least I could pay use basic in game options like the auction house or having a mount.

Lastly, I haven't bought Pre-Game cards because it's my understanding that other people are having problems with these and there's errors coming up on their accounts when they enter the codes into the Turbine account ... so, not willing to gamble

Please turbine, do you except cash via pigeon's?

Also ... please I beg you, forgive my frustration, it's not aimed at any individual just a very poor system

strange, credit\debit cards are usualy tied to your home address not IP address simply because for most internet users their IP changes frequently, usualy each time you logon and most ISPs charge extra for a static IP

if your credit card is tied to your IP address you need to check with your ISP if you have static IP, and inquire what it is and if necessary check with your bank if its the same. this IP is tied to your modem\router not your PC so no matter which pc you logon to the internet through your home modem\router it will always appear to be the same IP

"usualy" credit card\debit cards are tied your home address not IP, this will or should be the address on your bank statement and must be typed exactly as it appears on your statement ie if you live at 999 letsbe avenue typing 999 letsbe av will not be recognised

I have never heard of any association between a credit/debit card an IP address.

Most likely cause of this is if geo-location based on your IP address resolves to a markedly different country or region than your credit card billing address.

You could try using http://www.geobytes.com/iplocator.htm to see where it thinks your IP address is located.

It thinks that my (static) IP address is in London, wherease I actually live 600 miles away on the Highlands of Scotland.

Similarly, when I go down to London on the train, which has a wi-fi service, Google always comes up in Swedish bacause the train uses an IP provider whose satellite apparently downlinks to a base station in Sweden.

Edit: Just tried one of my company's IP addresses. It shows ad being in North Carolina, USA. It is actually in Reading, Berks!

MJK47 - is your card accepted then - given that your IP address isn't located at your address?

Because I'm completely out of options now, I have to use F2P all the time or quit and it's starting to annoy me already with the lack of options on f2p compared to VIP

    Re: Terribly Disappointed with Turbine

When I originally subscribed, 4 years ago, I called them to create my subscription. At that time there was no option to specify the UK as my location. Since then I have had no problems updating my card information, which I last did a few weeks ago.

A quick call to the US shouldn't cost much. Certainly on my BT calling plan it is pretty cheap.

As for the headset/mic issue, if you are going to continue to play the game, and participate in group content, you are probably going to need a headset as most groups rely on either the in-game audio support or external services such as Ventrilo to coordinate the action. Particularly true in the higher-level instances and raids.

There is a trick, that you cant apply a game time card via web page if you're not vip, in this case you need to open a ticket and ask customer support to apply the code for you. This is worked for me last summer because my card isnt worked in Turbine's system.

    Hope it helps!

I've finally gotten somewhere, one of my fax's seemed to have got through and my card has been manually entered into my account.

So I've gone to the my turbine account to finally subscribe and I'm met with another Error message, this one -

The Product Key you have entered cannot be used to upgrade this subscription due to an invalid upgrade path. [err: 29308]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

I am now VIP. Been receiving a number of e-mails from Turbine today, better late than never, and they have been helpful

So may I say... today I haven't been terribly dissapointed, instead I've been pleasantly surprised.
