Best Servers For A UK Player

Hello! I've been on and off this game for a while, but since it's launch on Steam the game has suddenly grown on me massively, so I've decided to to take playing it seriously. In case you forgot after reading the title, I play from the UK.

I originally started on Brandywine as it had the highest population, but I've come to the conclusion that once I hit endgame the time-zone difference will cause me issues.

Which is the largest EU-English server (PvMP , or whatever the term is for a basic server ^^ ), I'd also like to know what the largest EU-English RP server is as well as I fancy giving that a go in the future.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Best Servers For A UK Player

cant realy say which former EU server has a higher playerbase who regularly play PvMP but for normal PvE play any of the EU servers may have peple online at times more suitable for you

former EU servers which may have a higher EU population playing at more suitable times at least for now try
Withywindle, Snowbourn, Evernight, Eldar, Gilrain, [EN-RP] Laurelin, [DE] Gwaihir, [DE] Anduin, [DE] Morthond, [DE] Maiar, [DE] Vanyar, [DE-RP] Belegaer, [FR] Sirannon, [FR-RP] Estel

of which snowbourn, eldar, laurelin (RP) and the german (DE) servers are or were believed to be the highest populted servers. but you should be aware that all servers are now part of the new global service and based out of the US

if your looking for a role playing server then we have the former EU server Laurelin which is RP with enforced RP rules, you must use correct chat channels and your toon name must be fitting to lotro lore, any non suitable name will be changed by a GM and you will need to pay for a rename

or Lanrdroval RE (Role play encouraged) with more relaxed rules
if you choose a role play server especialy laurelin you would be highly recommended to read this first

What's the community like on Snowbourn? Is it friendly at all?
Is RE more popular and RP and what are the communities like typically?

i think the community in general is nice no matter which server you play on and the snowbourn community is usualy great but like any other server we sometimes get the occasional person who likes to cause trouble but thankfully they dont tend to stick arround for too long

cant realy say but lotro tends to attract a more matue player base no matter which server you play on

Okay, thanks so much for the help so far, it's really appreciated.

I've had a recent change of heart about whether or not it's worth playing Brandywine, currently I can see myself pugging a lot lot rather than committing to anything as I have WoW for that sort of commitment. I just wonder if I were to chose that server whether or not I would actually wind up finding more people to play with despite the time-zone difference.

It's that or Snowy atm as it's in the right time zone.

I'm not sure how much different it will be in the long run, although I'm leaning more towards Snowy atm.

well as you already have toons on Brandywine why not logon to them and give them a spin at your normal playing times to see how the community is arround the later BST\GMT times, you may want to join the globall LFF channel (/join channel glff)

you could also roll a toon on snow as well to compair the too and join snowys global LFF (/join channel globalLFF)

its always worth checking out your new home first especialy if your planning on paying for a server move

Well the problem is that my toon on Brandywine is only a lowbie so it doesn't bother me if i have to start again.

I just don't want to roll on one server then regret it later, Brandywine seems far larger (And has a better name ) which makes me think that even during GMT prime times there will still be lots of people on Brandywine.

The EU servers may well be best if you are playing at 'typical' EU time, but I'd make 2 additional suggestions:

On Brandywine, check out the 'Guardians of Fangorn' kinship - we have a pretty active population most of the NA day (4 players on and active at 8-12 AM your time today, more later on {I'm a Reading Royals fan, so I do the time conversion by reflex}). Drop Kamewen a mail on Brandywine if you'd like more information.

Consider a character on Elendilmir, which was my main server for years and one I'm still active on. It has a good mix of American (N and S), European and Oceanic players and is as close as I am aware of to a true 24-hour server. I'm North American (Texas), but often play at 'odd' (by NA standards) times. Look specifically at the Kinship 'The Osgiliath Guard' (if you're 25 years old or older), which has a very large Oceanic as well as North American member base, and good membership from other areas as well (South America as well as Europe). I have a character in TOG (very good folks, IMO) and can provide you contacts with some of their officers if you'd like - drop Kamwen a mail in-game.

In any case, welcome to Middle Earth and best of luck to you!

In that case I'm rather considering Elendilmir if it's active all the time, which probably suits me more as I'm not sure myself which hours I'll mostly be playing the game.

Also, check out the TOG web site at http://www.theoldergamers.com/lord_of_the_rings_online/ - and they cover a _lot_ more than LOTRO...

Well I got 357 for Brandywine and 360 for Snowy.

I know it sounds odd, but if they're so close at EU peak time I'd probably rather go with Brandywine as it has the potential be larger at later times. Also as I mentioned before, as odd as it seems I also just like the name Brandywine for whatever reason .

Update: Still not sure between Snowbourn or Brandywine, amazed at how annoying a decision it is.

Try this: join the global chat channel on both servers and monitor chat for a few days during your regular playtimes. (Go ahead and level characters on both servers, because, well, at least you're grinding out more TPs!) I'm not sure what the channel names are, though; in the US servers it is typically 'glff' but might be 'globalLFF' on other servers. But that is where you will find folks recruiting for level-cap group stuff. See which server has more active recruitment during your regular play times. This will give you an idea of whether your time zone will be a problem at end-game on Brandywine.

Well I probably keep studying the people who are on at times.

For the time being I'll probably level on both, although for the time being I may just focus on Snowbourn due to the time-zone being more familiar, which will probably make taking part in a social Kin a lot more organised. I also get the feeling that while they are the same during the GMT evenings, Snowbourn may be more popular during the day.

I get the feeling that Kin's will be easier to find and more enjoyable on Snowbourn due to people mostly being on at the same time.

If RP is something that you want to get involved with in future, your best choice for you,(since you are from UK) imo would be the official RP server Laurelin. It is not required to rp and many join this server for a more mature and much more immersive world (not to mention that you dont get to see silly names here that much because of the naming policy) but if Roleplay is something that someone wants then this server totally worths at the very least to be given a try

Def have a look at Laurelin Archives and Laurelin forums to get a very good idea

    Cheers

Aye, I'm rather tempted to try out some RP in a LOTR setting, just need to think of a nice Dwarfy name, or Dwaf-ify my usual name of Varken.

So far I think it will be Snowbourn and Laurelin

Update: After having a look over the Laurelin forums and other LOTR RP topics I've managed to get worked up about trying it. Making a Dwarf name is a real pain, I chose Haegard in the end, which I hope sounds adequately Dwarfy.

Only problem I've had on Laurelin is that there's still idiots on glff which was kinda disappointing for an RP server.

Never judge a/any server based on glff, simply because thats where the most jerks and trolls happen to be and thats true for every server usually. Thats where most people are who care about end-game and raid-gear, its not surprising

The community on Laurelin is far more nicer and mature than what you might see in glff and even then those are the minority
