Why you didn't really want the 6th bag anyway... (Humour)
In the time since the origin of this thread it has gone on to become an ongoing humourous story... for best effect later on, read the written post before scrolling down to see the relevant pictures for maximum impact , and in many cases you may want to click on the embedded pictures to pop them up at a larger size in a new tab - a lot of the humour is visual and may not be readily apparent at the scaled down sizes at which they are shown in the thread.
BTW... Thank you to the 3 different people on Riddermark who ran in to "save" me whilst I was attempting to get the screenshot of my death to a green mob: This was the reason

Thanks
It's mostly a compilation of others peoples work, but I've been fiddling enough to make my chat box nice and large without it taking up too much screen real estate.
Only works at 1920x1080, due to the way the Toolbar is moved, if anyone is interested the version as shown and explanation is available over at lotrointerface here: http://www.lotrointerface.com/forums...=7975#post7975 - make sure to grab the zip at bottom of the page to get current version.

See?
That works for those big tanky types, but us vertically challenged races have more problems. When I tried that arrangement, the bottom bag was on the ground and my feet couldnt get traction... could draw my weapons and reach my lute.... but couldn't move

I am picturing a hobbit or dwarf strapped into that with their feet frantically waving in the air and them struggling to lean forward to get the packs off the ground. And then being crushed to death when they finally make it and topple forwards!

Awesome thread. ^_^
Indeed, though its hard to see in my screenshot, I am indeed a dwarf - that's exactly what nearly happened to me!
So I decided to get six of my brethren to carry a pack each for me, but, well.... there's this thing that seems to happen whenver you get 7 Dwarven Minstrels together that just makes it.... (/blush) embarrassing....

But at last I thought I had it solved. I found this nice man named Bill Ferny and he sold me a wonderful cart, and it worked quite well till I got close to Moria.
But I soon had that sorted out and pushed on inside where the real problem started with all those narrow bridges.
So I gave up and started carting them around on my back again....

The water (and the packs) will cushion the fall. Unfortunately, that means instead of an instant death from the fall, it's a slow painful death by drowning.
Of course the Watcher might 'save' you for a midnight snack! If it can even lift you, that is...
(And presuming you didn't just flatten the poor squid in the fall.)

Having survived my unfortunate tumble backwards down the well (Due to my landing on some poor chap named Melmar, whom I squashed to death... good thing I am a minstrel and was able to revive him.), I was able to gain a goat from some of the newly resident Dwarves, thanks to my good reputation. With my new goat, and with a new backpack configuration, I set off to explore this interesting domain I had fallen into.
Sadly, I had no sooner reached the bottom of the stairs near the outpost than my goat was spooked by a mostly harmless water lizard, and he bolted through a narrow gap - whereupon I became firmly wedged and he trotted on. The blasted goat returned shortly afterwards, but it took me several hours to coax him back to me so that I was able to extricate myself.

Great thread, I'm really enjoying it!
The subject matter and the first post reminded me of when I played Dark Age of Camelot. In that game, you had far fewer items to carry around, but you could be encumbered if you pick up too many items. Your encumbrance limit was affected by your class/race and whether or not you had strength buffs. My main character was an armor crafter, and as she leveled up, she'd make large quantities of various armor pieces while standing in front of the forge, only to find that she couldn't move because she was encumbered. It was very common to see folks in the chat channels asking if a bard could come and give them a strength buff so they could move to the merchant to get rid of the items in their pack! Too funny, except when you were the one encumbered!

Hehe, I know that feeling. Something I played somewhere along the way (Everquest?) used the same sort of system so I know exactly how it goes
Speaking of Everquest... there's a game that the Dev's should look at for ideas... I especially liked the Alternate Advancement (AA) system they used. Once you hit a certain level you could shunt some or all of your xp into "points" which could be used to improve your character, and it meant when you hit a level cap you didn't just toss all your xp, you could still use it for bettering yourself. Had AA's that increased all kinds of things, from small percentage increase to your stats/hp/mana, run speed increments, longer breath duration, crafting critical chance modifiers, AA's which gave you the ability to learn extra crafts above the ones you chose at start.. (now thats something I bet would sell in the store... something to let you learn an extra crafting tree), but I better not start on that or I'll derail my own thread!

The AA system is a good idea in theory, but in practice became a gating method. Don't have 6000AA? No raid for you!

Re: Why you didn't really want the 6th bag anyway... (Humour)
Asheron's Call had (has? haven't played it in several years) burden too. It also had many many pack spaces (simpler graphics allowed us to carry more icons about). A heavily burdened character, if he tried to run, loped slowly along as if he were walking on the moon. Or maybe 4 Vesta. Never actually froze in place ... just got v e r y ... v e r y ... s l o w.....
Re: Why you didn't really want the 6th bag anyway... (Humour)
Following Jadzi's advice, I continued to try for better organisation of my packs, and came up with one that wasn't too bad, kept my weight nice and centralised and my feet firmly on the ground. Well, most of the time.......

Isn't it strange how we can carry 7,500 (75*100) lumps of coal, which together weigh many tons?
Isn't it strange how we can't even put a feather into our bags (which contain 7,500 lumps of coal), as there happens to be no more room?

Ahh.... EverQuest. One of the fun things was to note who showed up at various 'camp' sites to trade plat for copper and silver at a discount. It was one way to make money in the game. Your coin had mass/weight.
Also Faerlynie Grd61; Helga Htr56; Gilglasun Htr55; Faeracar Wdn51; Yanamila Lmr36; Zharyl Min36, Lirsun Wdn31; Symliwen Min23; Sunlaer Htrr23; Tharel Chp22; Aethylwulf Grd17; Sunrian Lmr16 + the other accounts;play on Crickhollow, too.

My armour crafter was a Druid, with the wonders of not just a Str buff, but she had a Str/Con buff too!
That was a nice aspect of Coruscating Mines dungeon before itemisaton as well. The only thing that dropped, was vast quantities of cash (used to be able to get Guildies from lvl 15 to lvl 25 there in one session, and everybody came out with oodles of cash - though itemisation was worth it, I remember being so proud of being able to ditch the grey con cloth armour and put that Black Sable scale on - I'd been in grey con cloth for so many levels, friends in other Guilds got everybody farming the stuff and I got presented with pieces of the set from about half the people in Hibernia I think).
eta: reminds me of being encumbered in Ultima Online as well, pulling a load of ore from behind you, dropping it in front, and repeating that all the way to the forge, hoping not to get bushwacked on the way.

Even more qurious: If you have a bag with 7,499 lumps of coal and put in a [White Feather] as well. Even after some serious orc bashing and running about it still comes out as [White Feather]!!! Clearly this must be a bug in the code or we're simply seeing the absense of [Crushed Black Feather] in the item pool.
Re: Why you didn't really want the 6th bag anyway... (Humour)
Luckily, at the last moment, my sturdy cloak snagged on the splintered wood slats of the bridge and (after much manoeuvring of my packs back up to my Hobbit companion) I was able to climb back up. The skilful little Hobbit Hunter was then able to fire arrows with ropes attached across the gap, and we spent the day repairing the bridge. Once we were done I carried my packs across one at a time, and we continued our journey on to the Dimril Dale. In Dimril Dale we met an Elven fellow who told us we should go and talk to another Elf by the name of Haldir, to see about being allowed into Lorien.......
Re: Why you didn't really want the 6th bag anyway... (Humour)
I'm a bit OCD and spend too much time organising my bags. Cause I role play a bit in my head I hate it when I have to store food and corpse remains in the same bags. I frequently shift stuff mid quest cause it irritates me so much. I'm sure 20% of my play time is spent moving stuff around in bags and round vaults. I love how it stacks stuff for me.
De-motivational poster idea Another bag. More stuff to sort.
(needs a clever screenshot but don't have one.
Speaking of bags but a bit off topic. Have you noticed how tidy people's bags are in videos/fraps of raids. etc. Do you think LOTRO and MMOs attract very tidy minds? There's probably a thesis in that for someone

Heh, my OCD cleanliness exhibits more in the way of tweaking my UI to keep my screen all uncluttered, ultra mini packs, quickslots positioned just so, modified map so can still see screen when open, etc - and then I turn it all on its head and block off the whole screen when it comes to pop open windows by going large size for things like crafting, dressing room, mail, barter and auction windows

Even more, isn't it strange how when we remove 98 lumps of coal from or bags containing 7,500 lumps of coal, we still don't have enough room for a [White Feather]?

Heh, when you know where the original inspiration for the start of this thread came from, I think it's more about the 6th bag being the straw that breaks the camel's back: http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.p...29#post6221129
Re: Why you didn't really want the 6th bag anyway... (Humour)
Once I'd managed to get myself unwedged from that silly little hole in the platform (I'm getting much better at freeing myself from my packs these days - pity about breaking that water breathing potion I'd found, but really I don't see myself having much need for it anyway..), I spoke to Haldir, and he said we had to earn the trust of the Elves hereabouts. Spent the whole day running silly little errands, delivering arrows and parcels, slaying Orcs (the fun bit) and such, and eventually they let us pass through. By late that night we had crossed Lorien (pretty enough place in its way, but frightfully dull in my opinion) and had negotiated the use of a boat to cross the river Anduin so we could continue on to Mirkwood......

Oh Bother! <-staying in character
Knew I should have got that pack on one of my toons. I have the fireworks steed on several, but I'm pretty sure they were all Elven/Men toons.....
Great idea... I'm sure I can find some s/shots to use.
Might have to do a rescue in Nûrz Ghâshu...
Corunir says, "This way! We will skirt the edge of the Coliseum. Beware the fire-streams!"
Theloin says, "Oh, Bother!" (as he pings around the room propelled by his pack)
Though....... there are quite a few campfires just across that river, now that I think about it
Re: Why you didn't really want the 6th bag anyway... (Humour)
Fortunately those Elven boats are very sturdy, and once we'd (well, more I than we - My Hobbit friend Delwise has a curious aversion to swimming) off-loaded the packs and dragged them back to shore it bobbed back to the surface. It was quite an arduous task. To refresh ourselves before continuing on Delwise was able to help us swiftly travel back to his home town of Bree, where we attended a wonderful, relaxing festival - and thanks to my various skills I was able to win a pack full of fantastic fireworks!
We returned to the shores of the Anduin and ferried across the packs a couple at a time, having learned from our previous mistake, but unluckily I dropped my pack of fireworks in the river as we disembarked from the final trip. Hopefully if I bathe it in the warmth of a campfire they will dry out and be OK. This forest looks a rather drear place, and it would be nice to bring some brightness and colour to it at some stage with them.....
Thanks for the inspiration Calta, had something else in mind for next, but this was much more fun!
