Thread: Where Have All The Troll Stones Disappeared To In the Brown Lands? :-/

Okay, is it just me, or has anyone else had a problem with this quest?
A Mockery For A Memorial

You are told to go and find 10 troll stones located on the map in the Brown Lands.
The most I've found so far is a measly 4/10! :-(
But I only came across those while I was in the middle of doing other quests.

I'm nearly running out of quests in the Brown lands now, and coming down to this 1 last quest, (or perhaps 3)
I decided to go hunting for the rest of the stones this afternoon, and having hunted all over the area that was tracked on my map from my quest tracker, the only things I spotted were trolls, dunelending mobs, wild cat mobs and ore and wood/branch nodes.

I was quickly becoming irritated by this one. Those darn stones were absolutely nowhere to be seen!
It was like "searching for a needle in a darned haystack!" :-(

I am wondering though....
If it's possible that someone else was on the same quest at the same time, or had maybe just done the quest a few mins ago ahead of me, (not that it was apparent to me at the time) are the stones still supposed to be available to every individual player so that they can pick them up without worrying whether or not someone else has done it?
OR
if they have disappeared because of a previous player not long ago, do they stay unavailable for a long period of time, hence the wait for the respawn time, in which case it's rather annoying to me!:-(

If not, then why am I having a problem with this silly quest!?:-(
Why else can't I find them? :-/

If I'm correct in thinking, that's the troll cave way over at the eastern end of the map which I've already been in, where I was told to go and track down the troll boss (I don't remember his name offhand) and kill him..... correct?

And no.... no troll stones in there I'm afraid, except of course the trolls.

Just FYI, this is a quest item which is found only on the ground, and is not something which is collected off the corpse of a troll.
Clearly there were no such things lying on the ground in that troll cave.
They're supposed to be on the ground outside, amongst all the mobs and crafting nodes.
Just that I'm having such a big problem locating them all!

There are 3 inside the garden behind the Ent. Most of the rest you'll find in the area in front of the cave. If you have your quest tracker on, you'll find the remaining troll stones somewhere within the colored area on your map.

The ones in the coloured area on my map, marked by the quest tracker are the ones I'm having a big problem locating, probably because I've marched my way all over that area already, where I found the 4/10 I'd already found whilst doing other quests.

Whilst on my way to the troll cave to go and track down big daddy , somewhere near the cave I did find at least 1 troll stone.
I'm not sure, and not very confident if there are anymore to be found near there, but I'll check later.

Also, I'll look in the troll infested garden you mentioned behind the ent too.
Guess that's a possibility.

I'm rather confused though..... the quest tracker doesn't point to those locations you mentioned, and if not.... then why not?? Sounds like a case of a badly setup quest to me. :-/

The troll stones don't disappear when picked up. My wife and I just did this quest the other day. They are kind of annoying to find though. They are in the colored area on the map though, from the Stone Hole all the way diagonally up to Helstor. I swear they used to be giant turned to stone trolls, easy to find. Now they're tiny... well for lack of a better less crude word, droppings. :P

Heck, even the passage in the quest text says they should be big stone statues of trolls but alas.

This is one of those quests where riding around hitting the delete key is one of your best options. There are more than 10 out there, but they're not very common at all.

Hmm I'm pretty sure the "statues" were the same size as the monster trolls when I did this quest. Maybe the size got messed up? You should bug this if so. Sometimes the scale of things get borked unintentionally when updates occur. I was actually riding through the southern part of Angmar the other day and either my memory fails me or the cave claws are 3 times bigger then they used to be--- they were bigger than my horse.

And for the OP, yes, as another poster said, use the magic "delete" key and turn on your "directional selection indicator" in your combat options panel and it's a piece of cake!

The quest was changed for some reason, no idea why. The troll stones are not troll statues anymore, but tiny pebbles on the floor. Much hard to find imo.

Try the Entwives Garden - I found about 3 there. Else the dungeon (Stone Hole?) - there are quite a few about there...

I wondered if my memory was going. I rode through that area not long after release, and I could have sworn there were big stone trolls frozen in the sunlight. I wonder if they removed them because of the obvious fact that none of the other trolls wandering around here seem bothered by the sun in the slightest anymore...

July 2012, just finished this quest, and thanks to the submitters above for hints. Here is a summery of our experience.
3 are in the Ent Wife gardens. 6 are outside the Troll Cave north of Gnarlstump. These are well spread out. There are none within the cave. The last one we found was well north of the area. Open the map for the quest area. It kind of looks like a hour glass, the vast majority of the stones are in the lower part, but one is in the upper edge of the upper half. Good hunting.

Thank you for this thread. I spent 45 mins riding in circles trying to find these. One problems is quest tracker seems to point to stones already found. Seems I missed the ones in Ent wives garden and the one in the upper part of the hour glass. (I'm skipping around instancing a lot and generally getting easily distracted while questing at the moment. Definitely not the systematic comlete quests in order player I was until I got to stunland! )

The quest tracker for area quests do not point you to specific items, they mearly point you back into the highlighted area where the items can be found.

The quest tracker was accurate when the trolls were still large stone trolls. Back then there were none in the gardens. I did it back then with two characters with no problem. The new little stones don't match the quest tracker area at all. As mentioned before, three are in the garden, six are in front of the cave and one more is close to Helstor.

No idea why they changed this but I assume they forgot to change the quest tracker while they were at it.

I can confirm what others have said here. It's been a while since I did this last time, and that's why I was puzzled when I was doing this again today: No more trolls turned to stone, but small pebbles on ground, and no matter how many times I rode around, I only found 7 around Brown Lands. Thanks to this thread, I went to Desolation of Gardens and there was 3 more, as others have mentioned (and no, there was none there before this quest changed, no idea when that happened though).

I found 2 in the northern area.

Pro-tip. Turn your graphics down to very low and then the stones will be much more easy to see. All of the grass and and such - especially with DX11 makes them extremely hard to see.

Yes, two of them are in the northern area. As for your tip, it's even easier to just turn frill distance off, it gets rid of most of those grass etc (also reeds and stuff at Rushgore) but that way you don't have to switch off your high/very high graphics.

There has always been three troll stones in the garden behind the Ent. The only change that I noticed was the size of the troll stones (decreased from actual trolls to pebbles). The locations of each remained static. I've completed this quest seven times if that will help you believe me.

I find it strange that Turbine felt the need to tweak this quest when there are so many other things that need attention.

Okay, now that I think of it, there might have been troll statues inside the garden, but I never went back there with my characters after I completed that "liquid-pouring" quest (can't remember the name), and I still completed troll-stone quest three or four times. Which can only mean that before the change, there was actually 13 statues that updated the quest: 10 were outside garden and 3 were inside the garden.

There still are at least 12 troll pebbles around. On my first character, I found 9 riding all over the Brown Lands back and forth, hitting 'del' and hoping for a new stone to show up, before somebody told me to check the garden. I saw three more blinking in the garden (but only needed one of them of course ).

On the second character in that area I tried to pick up the ones in the garden and near the troll cave first, but must've missed some, because I still went all over the place trying to find two more after that.

this quest sucked. I remember it taking me about 30 minutes to find the last troll.
