Thursday Tea & Crumpets
Hello everyone! It's been awhile since I've posted, even longer since I've actively played the game. I'm coming back as soon as it's done downloading & installing. And today is Thursday. I couldn't think of a better day to come back on than a Thursday. And I have tea & crumpets to share with all of you, and goodness I hope it'll be a good snack for all to enjoy!
How's everyone doing today? I'm looking for a kinship to mess around with when the aforementioned required tasks are completed.
And on another note, does everyone remember their first steps into Middle-Earth? I had received my closed beta invite, and decided to team up on the Meneldor beta server with a FFXI friend named Kurohyou from the Phoenix server. We created a guild and for a time it was good. Called it Dragoons of Phos. Got some awesome people in the guild, and unfortunately there was the awful incident wherein I discovered why my dear friend never really lead a guild on FFXI Online, he was a megalomaniac and everyone abandoned him. ;_; Sadness.
But he and I had a great time before the guild had to put him down! And I met so many amazing people, such as Gaelwen, and all the other nameless members who rose up and said no more to the tyranny of FFXI elitism in our Middle-Earth. Brings a tear to my eye. Just like the first time I ran around Bree. And the first time I did the Great Barrow, and running for my life to Rivendell at the ripe level of 20-ish.
Let the good times live forever in our hearts! Tea and crumpets are on the table to your left.Last edited by polishedglass; Jun 07 2012 at 11:29 AM.

Re: Thursday Tea & Crumpets
the 18th is coming with tea, possibly coffee, and battle
Morning, Landrovalrim,
First off, the coffee house is open! Sheesh, gombur caught wilson and his lads sleeping again. the pastry hobbit ate all the pastries, down to the very last one! I guess it was first breakfast, second breakfast, and early elevenses for him.
I would like to thank all the people who sympathized with me and wished me well yesterday. It restores my faith in humanity when people whom I dont even know go out of their way to take the time and post a caring thought to a complete stranger. Thats why Landroval is the best. I have been here since beta. I know we are the best.
Now, as to the title of todays thread, well, as many of you know, my annual Waterloo day post is coming. Right about now, 197 years ago in belgium, more british troops were arriving from the ill fated expedition to America. But these were some hard fighting men, veterans of the Peninsula campaign, and would form the backbone of the Duke's army. If you were an eligible young officer of suitable social station, you would be trying to wrangle an invitation to the Duchess of Richmond's ball. All the elite of the elite of British society had made the journey to Brussels.
Over by the town of Namur, the Prussian army was in its cantonments. General Feldmarshal Blucher had dealt with a mutiny by the Saxon contingent in very harsh terms. Against the advice of some of his officers, he had shot the ringleaders but then he disbanded every saxon regiment, burned their colors, and sent them home in disgrace.
Meanwhile, on the French side, the Armee du Nord was on the move, but quietly, secretly. The borders had been sealed (nevertheless, some spies did get through) and the troops were concentrating in the vast forests on the French-Belgian border. Napoleon himself remained in Paris with his Imperial guard, and would till the last moment, to avoid tipping off the Royalist spies who were sending messages to Wellington.
So our table is set. The pieces are on the chessboard. On the 15th, Napoleon crosses the border, and the dance begins. We have seen how most of the battle went. All that remains is for Napoleon to launch his "Old Grumblers" the Grenadiers and Chasseurs of the Imperial Guard, the elite of the French Army at Wellington's center. Normally, the sight of those tall men in their Bearskin caps meant that it was time for the enemy to leave the battlefield. Would Wellington be able to hold his bleeding, broken, multinational force together? We will find out on June 18th!
Hi Irwuel, welcome back. I posted what I had written into your thread, so the thread police wouldnt get me.Last edited by Docargyle; Jun 07 2012 at 11:52 AM.

People, may not notice the thread since it is missing coffee in the title.
Thanks for opening Polishedglass.
I think I have done all I can to track down the deadbeat thief. Now I am going to let the police work it for a bit.
Have a good one everyone.

Re: Thursday Tea & Crumpets
That looks funny Welby. I may go and check that out.
I recently canceled my netflix streaming account and signed up for Amazon Prime for a change of pace. I can also buy paid programming from Amazon to watch on the xbox app. I am about to buy the second season of Game of Thrones. This mini-series is helping me turn the GF from a Twighlight fan onto real fantasy, I just need to find the first book in the series.....

I have never payed WoW, or even thought about playing it. I am getting several emails a week inviting me to a closed beta for some WoW expansion or another. The last one used ? rather than periods, so it is clearly legit.........

Re: Thursday Tea & Crumpets
It is time for a forced delurking. As usual, I have been reading, but the posting hasn't manifested. Ah, well.
Multi-quotage:
Oh, yeah. Reading about LotRO's open beta the day after it opened, and loving Tolkien enough to decide to *finally* try an MMO, thus ending a four year break from online gaming. Planning to buy more memory for my computer after just a couple of hours' play. Feeling so very lost in Bree, and asking for directions to the Pony so I could see it for the first time.
That was just the barest beginning. It's been a great trip so far, though. And while I am certainly preaching to the choir here, it does strike me as a shame that people who don't play these games will never understand how much connection and socialization can occur. Of course, they probably think it's a shame I'm not normal enough to sit in front of a television for a few hours every evening. So it goes.
Nope, it was asleep.
Nah, tea works just as well these days. It just takes a while some mornings. We're older and slower?
I hope the guy does something stupid and gets himself caught.
Are they going to bring in some tasty catering, I hope?
Those used to be my favorites. (I still enjoy them, but I sadly try and avoid stuff like that most of the time.)
I'm enjoying some of the new stuff that was recently added to Amazon Prime, most particularly CBS' Numb3rs drama that used to air on Friday nights. It was one of the few series I'd make a decent attempt to watch when it aired.
As for the Xbox, I am curious about the variety of streaming features it seems to have these days. I have a Wii, but I don't seem to hear about as many options. I haven't seriously looked into it yet, though, but once settled, I really want to look into utilizing more non-cable options.
I don't have cable now, and generally don't miss it. I did realize last night that I could not watch either the Stanley Cup or game 6 of the Western Conference finals. I was more interested in the latter. As utterly bizarre as it is to be supporting a team from Oklahoma, (especially against a team from Texas*) I am thrilled the Thunder won. Kevin Durant is the type of "superstar" of whom I can happily be a fan.
(* U.Texas is my alma mater. UT and OU have this little rivalry thing going on, you see, so cheering for anything with Oklahoma in the name is decidedly against my nature. Much to my amused delight, the vast irony here is that Kevin Durant is also a Longhorn.
)
However, your quote used periods, so I'm not sure we can consider it legitimate. Hrm.
*****
I didn't go back for multi-quotes, but even though I am late in doing so, I did want to say first of all that I was not happy to hear that Canadian immigration is being stupid about Garaf. It will apparently take more time than hoped for, but at least the reason for wanting to immigrate is an awesome one. Garaf and Alditha, I do hope that the immigration troubles work out in some speedier, unexpected, and productive way, but nonetheless, may things go splendidly for the two of you.
And Doc ... I am so sorry. I could go off on a rant about how Wal-Mart overworked you and had a direct hand in creating the circumstances upon which they will now sanctimoniously take action, but they're not worth it. Corporations largely suck these days, period.
I was struck by something in your post, though. You said you were too burnt out, too tired, and in too much pain to continue. You were trying to anyway, though, and at an undoubted personal cost. So though I know this is in no way how you would have chosen to end, I have to say that I think in some ways it's good that you *have* to stop driving yourself into the ground. Change is scary (oh, how I know that!), especially the unplanned kind, but perhaps there is a great new chapter of your life about to open, the likes of which you can't even imagine right now. I will hope so.
*****
For me ... I take up residence in Pennsylvania one month from today. I'm running around every day as if I were the proverbial chicken with its head cut off, but progress is starting to show and plans are in motion. Someone asked me the other day if the ball was rolling. I told them it most certainly was - just like the monster boulder Indy is running away from in the opening scenes of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
They adroitly pointed out that he did escape it, which was nice.
As soon as I lie down to go to sleep and try to let my mind wind down, it kicks right back into worrying about what needs to be done. Being tired is going to be a given for a while.
I am excited, though. A little sad about certain endings, but honestly, for the most part, I've known those were coming for long enough to be okay with it.
And Doc, there's one final comment I'd like to make that I'm bringing to your attention in particular in order to illustrate that what I said before wasn't just trying to cheer you up some.
Absolutely nothing can make up for losing my mom. I miss her, there will always be a hole in my life where she was, and there are always those moments when I think about how much I wish I could share something with her. Losing her as I did was a horrible event that changed my life and made it pretty awful for a while. You all know ... you got to "listen" to some of it.
But right now, much to my surprise, things are looking pretty darn good. In fact, in some respects, it's far better than I would have expected, and that's not only from the perspective that I had after she died, but from before as it happened as well. Had you told me a year ago that this was possible, I wouldn't have believed you. Life is funny that way.

Did they also adroitly point out that he escaped by crashing through monstrous spider webs, dodging poisonous darts, falling rocks, and then fell into the midst of a tribe of spear throwing natives, losing his treasure to his arch-nemesis before barely making it to his plane and then having to share his seat with a boa constrictor...
whoa nelly you're got a fun ride ahead Miss Del!
I know you meant this for Doc, but thanks for sharing.

Re: Thursday Tea & Crumpets
They didn't, but trust me, I was making the mental associations from the get go. It is proving interesting thus far, and is only going to be more so. Eep?
If only I were a cat...

I meant it for everyone, actually. It's just that I know when something seriously bad has happened, I'm not really fond of people telling me to cheer up just because it's the thing to say, and accordingly dislike doing anything similar. In this case, however, I felt like I could make a genuinely apt comparison and I wanted to point it out.
Things can inexplicably get better. I've known for a long time that moving was in the cards. But had you told me last June that I'd be on the verge of moving to Pennsylvania, and with such a future of possibilities there, I'd have been skeptical at the least. Yet here I am. There are no guarantees, but boy, am I going to try and enjoy exploring things.
Thanks to you all.

I play while most of you are likely asleep at any rate. Started the client download and now it's updating to the most recent patch, fun stuff. Too bad I don't have enough money on me at the moment for Isengard, will pick it up next paycheck.

Generally awesome person.
