Re: I Wish I had waited...

I'll start by saying I went for the top end one this time around.

Pretty sure the basic pack cloaks are the same as the legend ones so lvl75 not lvl20. Soldier on landscape is the skirmish soldier, cynic would say it's a poor attempt to sell more soldier tokens.

Heroic version is worse than basic if you have the quest packs listed so utterly pointless to lifers or vip's who will be staying vip

Legendary has all the toys and makes it very obvious where turbine wants you to spend the cash.

I just wish that the cosmetics could be dyed and the mount was a speed where it might be used more often. 24hours later LOTRO hit Steam and the starter pack there had a nicer looking (account wide) horse with max stats for £3 once you worked out the cost of the 1000 TP's.

You are incorrect. If you just /look at the comparison between the editions on the http://rohan.lotro.com site you will very clearly see that ONLY the Legendary edition comes with L75 cloaks. The two lesser editions come with L20 cloaks.

I believe that the Legendary edition that he is referring to is the Rise of Isengard Legendary edition. It was on sale for 50% off around the time of the anniversary celebration. It is now back to full price.

Turbine have stated that RoR will be available in the Turbine store for 4995 TPs, but that won't be until the release date on September 5th. There's no preorder available via TPs.

You clearly haven't been paying attention, as the various expansion packs HAVE gone on sale in the past. I bought RoI for 50% off just a few weeks ago, there's no reason to believe that RoR won't eventually go on sale as well.

As far as Turbine having to refund early buyers, that's ludicrous thinking. Prices change all the time, and you're not entitled to a refund if the price goes down on a product, nor are you required to retroactively pay more if the price goes up. You pay whatever the price is when you buy it. If you get in on sale, good for you. If you pay full price...too bad. The smart consumer is going to buy expansions, quest packs, and TPs only when there's a sale (which is pretty darn frequently around here).

I will be pre-ordering in July when I get paid and personally, the Horse-session play was a deal sealer for me The cosmetics look awesome (I love outfits) and from what my kinnies have said, wearing that armor whilst doing the session play makes you look like kickass

In general terms, the economy is not in good shape right now. Some folks are having trouble just coming up with the mortgage/rent and monthly bills, so yah, for some number of players $70, or even $40 is difficult. How much of the player base in that situation is hard to say, but because it's a small amount to you doesn't mean it's a small amount to everyone. Just sayin ..

    Completely agree.

This time around, Turbine did a better job of differentiating what will be in the pre-order packs and what will be in the different expansion packs after release, when pre-ordering is no longer possible. But to assume the packs won't go on sale, or that Turbine has some obligation to pay back consumers for initial purchases when it does go on sale is ludicrous. Players pay a premium for content "hot off the presses" so to speak, and this is true of every game title I can think of. When the bloom is off the rose (the content has been out for awhile) the price drops and/or frequent sales are offered in order to entice more players to purchase it. It has always been thus, and I suspect it always will be. Heck, didn't Turbine offer the RoI expansion packs at half price on Black Friday, which was not even 6 weeks after RoI content was first released?

Have time to see what happens before Sept before breaking out the credit card.
They do have the option to create additional alterative purchase-packages or sweeten the existing ones.

Including the Rohan+1 update cluster WOULD be a good start.

.. As it is I'm still on the fence.

Sorry I didn't respond early enough I never saw this thread after it was buried under all the RoR ones. And yes it was RoI Legendary and it was 50% at $25 for it. I assume it went full price after RoR pre order launched. :/

I have the "white" version already. Are the horses worth the extra cash? Is the question I guess I need to ask to buy it again. Sadly I did not know there was a CE version to buy.

On a side note, I just spent 12k points just to get rid of them and noticed on the forums there a 30% discount if you use the code. I really dont like such marketing ploys to be frank. I did not see anything about that "promotion" in the store in game nor have I received any emails about it.

Turbine advertised a product that you are not getting now, I think it would be easy to get your money back...

Well for me it wasn't the extra horses that did it for me. I'd paid money before to get TP to get Evendim, North Downs and Trollshaws on sale. I was considering getting the boxed Mithril Edition for the Fellowship pack, two more char slots and RK and Warden with the 2k tp. But I saw that RoI legendary had the Fellowship pack, Moria, Lothlorien AND Mirkwood, plus all of Isengard with the 3 mounts/cosmetics and 1000 tp and that was overall the better choice. I mean... I would recommend against buying it unless you don't have Moria/Mirkwood/Lothlorien and Isengard. It's at the full $50 price so not worth it in my opinion.

Regarding the "30%" discount, if I'm recalling correctly, it was advertised... at least for me at the login page. Sorry for you not seeing it though, I do agree, I wish they made the promotions more accessible. Honestly I posted a thread about me buying the boxed Mithril Edition and someone directed me to the RoI sale. If they hadn't mentioned it to me I never would've known.

Re: I Wish I had waited...

I have read a lot of posts that think buying RoR is a bad idea, mainly because of the instance debacle. But as I don't really play many instances or raids (due to there only being 2 in our fellowship), that's not really an issue for me. But my question is, if you buy the hero edition, you get evandim, moria and lothlorien. I already have evandim and thought instead of buying moria and lothlorien seperate, why not get RoR. But I would quite like a 6th bag too, so do you also get the land content with the legendary edition? If i can gain access to moria annd lothlorien with the legendary edition, then that's the one for me.

No doubt. I have nearly a dozen horses already and sadly I only really use one all the time. I guess I can wait the preorder bonus is not worth it since I'm not really active anymore.

Anyway thanks for the follow up - rep given!

So once again people, if you are planning to pre-purchase Riders of Rohan - make sure that Turbine offer you what it says on the package, otherwise its fraud.

The big one for me is that there are no instances included with the purchase, not at release, not afterwards. That's a dealbreaker for me considering such an expensive expansion.

There are going to be instances, which will be added later, and you will already have paid for them. They just won't be available on 5 September.

That's why they aren't really listing in great detail what comes the editions they listed. They can make changes all the way until Sept. 5th and people won't be able to do anything.

Every pre-purchase is a bit of a "pig in a sack" purchase, but in this case I am very much of the thinking that Turbine believes we're all so desperate for a 6th inventory bag that we won't notice they're basically charging 30 extra dollars for it and some cosmetics that will have relatively limited use, as they aren't dyeable.

That makes the legendary version a non-starter for me. I don't like being treated like I can't do math.

I already feel like a bit of a sucker for subscribing when I could have purchased almost every piece of content for what I've paid, plus quality of life improvements like the barter wallet. I'm unlikely to resubscribe if I don't see a greater value for my dollar.

And I've been reminded that there is actual content gated to the legendary edition as well.

Which will likely show up in the store as soon as someone decides enough people will pony up (see what I did there? the cash).

So, temporarily exclusive, at best, given past performance.

Re: I Wish I had waited...

I'm a lifer and a old timer beta player, and while I only dabble now once in a while when I get the notion (5 years is a long time to play a game) I always buy the highest expansion pack because I genuinely enjoy this game and, for a long while, I really did want to see it going all the way, even if I wasn't playing it as much as before. This will be the first expansion pack I haven't pre-purchased. Mainly due to the fact that i have no idea what I'll really be getting. From what I can see, there's just some information on some of the immediate benefits and fluff but after that...well what? We'll be getting Rohan and mounted combat. But what does that entail? What villages, what quests, what group content, what other progression and mechanics? I couldn't care less about a cosmetic cloak or some other nonsense! Tell me exactly what I'm buying!

Right now this reminds me of the "surprise bags" that you use to get when I was a kid. They'd usually cost a pound (sorry, this may be a entirely British thing...or Scottish thing...or just where I came from thing, so bare with me) which was quite a bit of money when I was young (now I do sound old!) and it would be full of promise of some great thing inside...sweets and stickers and something else amazing like a watergun or a kite or a heat seeking missile. Of course it never ACTUALLY said what would be inside, it just hinted at the amazing things it could be. And then you'd open it up and it'd be some rubbish dippers, a party popper and a cheap kaleidoscope (EDIT: Actually a more relevant metaphor would probably be a mystery lock box!) This is like a $70 version of one of those bags, except you can't even pick it up and have a feel of it to guess what may be in there.

Right now people are buying it on blind faith that it'll be amazing. I learned that lesson as a 10 year old, I'll wait to see what's in this mystery bag before I throwing my hard earned money into it.

(Also to the poster who is happy to buy things from Turbine without a second thought as "What's $70 anyway?" You can blindly give your money to Turbine "on faith" as much as you wish, but please don't churlishly dismiss other people for putting thought and common sense to what they choose to purchase)
"Still she did not blench; maiden of the Rohirrim, child of kings, slender but as a steel blade, fair yet terrible. A swift stroke she dealt, skilled and deadly."
