I recently brought my Captain to L20...she won't see much use for a while (since I'm going to elevate my Rune-Keeper over her), but I may as well make her Soldier decision. Any recommendations?
Most (not all) Captains choose to go with a DPS based soldier, as that is really where we hurt the most in skirmishes. Remember, the quicker things die, the sooner you can pop off a rally cry, stun, or attack duration buff. I prefer the Archer, as he not only provides the much needed DPS from his attacks, but he is also smart enough to stay behind your Captain while fighting. This means that, unlike the Warrior, he does not run out in-front of you and pull unnecessary aggro.

Wow do I hate the Warrior. I've been using it on my Captain and it is just terrible.
I think I may try Herbalist/Sage as suggested in the other thread.

It's what I run, and I like it because the herbalist is so useful, and you can overlap training between the two, so choose between DPS or healing as the situation warrants.

While you didn't specify what specific style of Captain you are Casilune, but I run with a Protector and works out great.
I can easily and quickly knock out tier3 skirmishes using that set up, so that's my recommendation, at least from a HoH Captain perspective.

.
lol I have a warrior skirmish solider leveled up as well. He's max ranked on all his stuff, and I kind of hate him also, so it's not just you.
I find his damage "meh", and he can't hold threat worth ####. He's ok for easy stuff, but that's about it. I find him relatively "terrible" as well. Not my favorite soldier, and if I could refund my points I foolishly wasted in him I would. But that's just my opinion.
My capt runs with saga which seems a perfect fit. I run skirm raids with the ultimate frost debuff skill traited and solo skirms with the ultimate flame skill traited (uber dps crits). Works very well when dps traited with oathbreaker archer deployed.
I'll second the Sage. I was using the Archer soldier for a long time, but I switched to a Sage a while ago and never looked back. It's a great complement to the Captain.
I have no problem running all the T2 solo skirms I've tried with myself traited 5y/2b and the Archer soldier trained up to my level. I act as tank with the full watchful shield-brother effects on us both, and just let her do her thing. I take advantage of the skirmish setup to use a banner over a pet, and usually choose the war banner for extra damage output and avoidance boosts for myself (b/p/e).

I tried the warrior, wasn't my thing due to pathing/AI issues. Switched to archer and herbalist (I've done both). However, a neat thing to do if you want to change soldiers is wait until RoR. Buy a SM reset scroll, use it @ 75. Level up yourself to 85. If things work like in the past, you will end up with thousands more SM than you started with, as skills are cheaper at higher levels...
