Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but it seemed at least kinda appropriate.
Anyway, so LOTRO just got added to steam, and I was wanting to add it to my steam library.
Since I already have LOTRO, I don't want to just download it again. Basically what I'm wondering is, how do I add it to my library? The only options I see are to "Add a Non-steam game to my library" and "Activate a Product on Steam".
The former isn't relevant, and the latter requires a CD key, which being a f2p game I can't seem to find.
Does anyone know how I can add the LOTRO that I already have to my steam library without re-downloading it through steam?
Saw the news via facebook, and must say it's a good one. Finally can buy expansions easier and gives me the reason to come back to the game after a few months of break.
About your question try creating a folder named 'Lord of the Rings Online' under Steam > steamapps > common. then copy your LOTRO folder contents into this new folder. no idea if it works, worth a punt though. Haven't tried it myself, cause I'm going to overhaul' my PC soon, so will need to install bunch of programs and games again anyhow. Tell me if it worked
Also it would be a better option if some from the blue names could answer your question, maybe there's an easier way
Probably have to re-download the steam version, before you can add it to your library or play "via steam". Don´t think both copies of the game, will have the same structure.
Personally, I don't have a great gameplay experience on Steam-linked games. Maybe it's just my personal setup that is wonky, but I always get a relatively large delay switching from the desktop to the game and vice versa. It ranges from 8 seconds on Star Trek Online to almost a minute with Civ 5. So I won't personally link my Steam account with LOTRO.
I've never used steam, so I don't have any first-hand experience with this, but you might want to have a look at this thread: http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.p...LOTRO-on-Steam. There's some helpful information on the first couple pages about using Steam with an existing installation of Lotro.
You have to install LotRO through Steam for it to be officially recognized, which unfortunately means downloading it again. I haven't tried this, but it may be possible to copy your existing files into the folder that Steam installs to (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\l ord of the rings online\ on my system) to avoid having to redownload everything, assuming that Steam will check first and skip downloading files that already exist.
You can enter the CD key in your Turbine account page. To get the key, you do have to start the download on Steam, but you can pause it as soon as it's begun. Then you just go to your game library, select the game, and the key will be there.
I'd stay away from steam unless I absolutely need it to play a certain game. Let's face it, DRM sucks, and even if it does come with good service and cheap games, the base element of Steam's DRM, needing to be online to verify that I have a certain game, is just a big huge pain in the butt. It's like someone's always looking over my shoulder.
*cough* big brother *cough* <__<
It takes the fun and ownership out of owning a game. I can understand free games, but Steam's too far out for me to even consider putting all of my games there.
But I don't think that we would need to do that for LOTRO or games that don't use steam's drm. Especially since LOTRO is online so we do have to be online anyway <_<
BUT STILL
I don't want to look at that horrid steam logo while i play my drm-free game. Even if I don't have to be online to play it.

You do realize that Steam has an offline mode, right? You do not need a constant internet connection to play any Steam games that do not require an internet connection to work (like, say, LOTRO :-)).

Yeah but you have to be online to switch to offline mode.
