The Official Laurelin PvP Events Thread

Hello everyone, this is just a new place we can all check for event related ideas and posts, so feel free to add ideas for events and schedules and details of actual events that will happen.

My thinking is that we can avoid having to search through the "Burning the World Tree" thread to find these details, just a quick look here to check for whats happening or plans and ideas.

When events are finalised post a new thread for the event and leave a link here, as well as in "Burning the World Tree."

To avoid making this thread cluttered, please leave inane rambling, flaming and non event related material in "Burning the World Tree" rather than here.

    Many thanks for your contributions,

    See you in the Moors!

    /Swordsalute

    Event June 7:

All freeps and creeps gather at slugpits. great dwarfqueen mythosi stands on top of the hill and all freeps kneel for him and thank him for his amazing contribution to laurelin pvp and making it bearable to play freep while turbine completely f*cked up this game with their store and horrible balance.

After that creeps come out of grams and feed great dwarfqueen mythosi renown. When creep rating drops below 700, creeps are allowed to kill a few freeps untill their rating is above 1000.

Hope to see you all there, if not I will troll you in freep ooc.

Might be more popular with a few changes, maybe if we reverse it and great dwarf queen mythosi feeds the creeps renown while freeps watch?

When your rating drops Creeps feed you a greenring or 2 to get your rating up again.

Back on Topic, keep the ideas coming!

First of all the last event was really good fun, alot of action ^^

    battle locations:

    - maybe you could use the eagle pass and the road between grams and DG for the next event, it has been a long time since we had a fight there.

    - i think people would also enjoy a raid vs raid fight in grothum / HH again

    Event preperations:

    - this is something i don't know if you did or didnt do. but maybe advertise the event ingame a week before.
i think it would lure alot of the pve people into the ettens also to have a nice time.

    - I like the idea of this thread btw to gather idea's, but again share this link ingame also to people and in chat
not everyone reads forums / checks them even, so maybe you get extra folks ^^

    Rewards:

    - Every warg / burglar that dies should be worth 50 points

its not that much of feedback / ideas i can give as i'm not that active anymore in the game but i hope something helps.

Looks like meat's back on the menu boys!!!.....

Creep organised event whose raids only goal in life is to eat as many creatures as they can. No points or winners but all creeps will randomly attack anywhere where there is a of collection bears, morningthaws, eagles, and of course their favourite food hobbits. Keeps to only be attacked if they are taken. Just a start off idea like...

Well people what can I say... the event is already there in ettens, we only need to use it, the dev's made it for you all....
Use the game as it is made:
One side controls Tol, use the grothem and hoarhallow flags, the DG and Ost relics, gain control over Lumbercamp and Isen, handing in quest for arrows, horn and oil, this all to increase Tol's defences.... And for other side is purpose to weaken their defences, by taking back keeps and flags.... Maybe set a time limit for this and after that, it's time for battle at Tol...
Maybe nice to play it with a few groups and have a max on group numbers no full raid to gank but small groups, like max freeps size 6, and max creeps 6-12 people depends on ranks, to roam the map around and defence certain keeps.
We could end up with a battle for Isen and Lumber Camp, at the same time...

    Laurelin PvP Event Meeting!
Monday June 18. Time: 8 PM UK time - we meet at the haunted kinhouse:
    Songs of Valour
Breeland Homestead, Tingdale, 5 Long Street (the first kinhouse on your left hand, if you just follow the street).

    Event Idea:

    "King of the Castle"

Zagy came up with this idea, and we spend a little time to work on this idea.
1 hour event - Adaradors End is the Castle, that need to be taken and defended (hope for TR to be blue - for fair GY for both sides). There is not many npc's and a large area with rocks and trees, and different tactics could be used, split a raid to smaller groups, or make the event in fs groups.
This Event need to get some rules, but seems pretty simple - and easy to declare a winner after 1 hour. Can be done 2 times, so the loosing side has a chance to get revenge.

My hope is to get a long list of events, that we can choose from in the future - some might not be finished or tried - but lets get it all on the list.

I thought I'd respond here to this, like Connall suggested. I just quickly wanted to say that I understand you're point Joy: discussion of balance quickly turn into shouting matches about individual classes/skills/players, which isn't helpful.

But I think it's worth reiterating my point from before, that if you're going to make an event that's maximum fun for all, you need to try and do at least something to address balance issues. Turbine have utterly failed us in this regard, so it's up to us to come up with ways to make events fun for both sides.

For example, we might have an awesome event planned, but then find we have 3 times as many creeps online as freeps. Sometimes that just happens: it's the nature of the moors, so I think it'll always be a good idea to have some rules/mechanisms in place to help balance out fights in events, at least a little.

The other point that needs making (which does get dangerously close to the type of discussion Joy wants to avoid) is that it really needs to be taken into account that there is a difference in power between freeps and creeps. I think it's generally accepted (and I certainly personally believe) that the average raid of 24 Laurelin freeps is more powerful than the average raid of 24 Laurelin creeps (the reasons don't really matter, but that's just the way it seems to be).

This means that even the simplest of events (say, "full freep raid meets full creep raid at TR fields, fights to last man") will slightly favour freeps.

Events will never be totally balanced, as it's too difficult and complicated a task, but I think they can be made more fun for both sides if at least some effort is made to redress any imbalance before the action starts.

I look forward to seeing you out there at some of the events!

Joy, that post in main forum about dates and stuff clashing with football. I'd ignore it, if we moved a meeting or event just because someone wants to watch a bunch of fairies dancing round a field in Poland we'd be here forever.

Looks good, a slight issue may be that the Euros Final will be taking place at the same time, depending on popular request it might be better doing it a little earlier or later?

    Evaluation King of the Castle

After a good nights sleep, it is time to evaluate last nights event. This is my perspective only, feel free to comment.

Last nights event showed me, that time limited events has a few positive sides. No one last night felt zerged, tho both sides had a few hard times - and to stop, while the game is still fun, might be better for all of us, than we tend to realize in usually ettens days/nights. And the same argument come in handy, if you decide to swap sides for an hour (and already decided to make Rising Sun events time limited to). It is a lot easier to give one or two hours, than a whole night.

Another issue, that we saw last night, is, that the time limit, do make us all more focused. We need to be in time for the raid start, or we might miss the event. All of us wanted most action as possible of the time and time was not wasted arguing (not much at least).

The teamspeak support worked really fine - and it was pure luxurary to have a supervisor there to keep track and guide us when needed. I don't expect this in the future. Lets try use teamspeak more, and lets see how it works out for us.

    /cheers Laurelin
