Hey everyone.
Just to keep it short, I have a lvl 42 RK, lvl 37 LM, lvl 18 Burglar and lvl 33 Warden, and have a spare char slot. Thinking of making either a captain or hunter.
Why should I choose captain, please?
Only advantages I can think of are 1: Slightly higher Melee DPS, 2: healing, 3: buffing, 4: herald, 5: heavy armour, and 6: fear removal, whereas hunter has 1: porting, 2: powerful ranged DPS, 3: poison removal, 4: low lvl stances, 5: low lvl permanent run speed buff, 6: fire/light oils, and 7: high parry/evade ratings.
Thanks,
Count Azinbah Hambel Batlord.
You have pretty much summed it up. And you may know this, but in a raid no-one brings a hunter for off-CC or a cappie for "anything". If you are going to chose the hunter, you will be ranged dps in endgame situations, period. If you are going to be a cappie, you will be buffing, and maybe off-tanking/off-healing.
The reason the cappie gets into raids and groups more easily is that there are a billion hunters out there (not to mention other dps classes; champs, burgs), whereas cappies tend to be much more rare.
You have summarized the differences, but you need to ask yourself what playstyle do you enjoy most. Based on the three classes you already have, it would seem you prefer a little more challenge when you play, and don't mind slowish levelling speed. In that case, I would chose the cappie due to the large number of little (but important) ways they can contribute to the success of a group. If you plan to (primarily) solo (including the endgame) then I would say hunter.

Captains are a well-rounded class designed to compliment a group on many different levels Count - but they do so from the background. So if you enjoy a calm and collected playstyle that revolves around observing your group and providing support where needed this is the class for you.
Well they are so much different...you cannot really compare them. Hunters are very pleasant to play...High ranged dps, fast traveling through the world, tracking abilities and so much more :P
the only advice I can give you is , do not chose what class to play by thinking what class is more needed by others...this is very wrong, it will just get you boring. Chose what it please you to play and be good at it. Make friends, join a guild, be nice and people will group with you whatever class you have.
I have 68 hunter, 44 minstrel, 35 warden, 25 Champion, 12 Captain, 14 Guardian. I enjoy every class a lot but Hunter and warden are my favorites :P
Yeah, I've made a captain twice before because I asked the kin what class I should make and they said 'Captain, the kin is low on them'. To be honest to them, they are a very merry bunch, but I have a life outside of it. Made a hunter goodness knows how many times too, but they're just too weak at Melee, and captain, well, got to about 22 as one, and he only had a handful of attacks.
So, seeing what classes I have, which other class would you recommend please? (I do not like healing, so Minstrel is not for me. My RK is DPS, always).

As a new Captain, I know the class only starts to shine very late. At 22 you haven't even scratched the surface. :-) By very late I am talking about late 50:ies, when their skillset starts to complete with capstones, especially the healing and DPS lines. Also Captains seem to need quite good LI:s to complement the long cooldowns of some skills, and make some ok:ish skills great ( Rallying Cry CD/heal, Muster Courage CD and Pressing Attack Targets/Crit Legacies come to mind).
Captain is very group oriented, even though they can be played solo with amazing success. By group oriented I mean that they bring to a group maybe more than any other class does, and personally I myself always want a Captain into the group, no matter what class I am playing and where. Even (or especially) for 3-man's.
Captain is also great choice for duoing, like I have seen already. The other class can be anything, and it works perfectly as Captain can switch to doing what the other class lacks in. In my case this means tanking the mob while doing (low) DPS and also healing (playing duo with a DPS LM). ;-)
If this doesn't sound like you thing, Captain is not for you. It wasn't for me either for over 3 years (tried 3 times before). You can tell your Kinship to roll one themselves instead. Playing is supposed to fun after all.

Bravery calls my name, in the sound of the wind in the night. My sword will drink blood, and I will fight, yes I will fight, in the Dawn of Battle!

If you don't like "healing" may wanna go Hunter. Restoring morale to your group is a pretty encompassing aspect of the Captain class - so if you are someone who likes to focus soely on DPS - Hunter deffinitely the way you should go I think.

While you will always be expected to use the healing skills when needed - you can build for DPS (although it won't be as good as a DPSers), and tend to focus that way.
Bad captains play like champs (melee DPSer, burg is another support/melee DPSer), good captains use all of their skills when it makes sense.

That was my point....
If someone likes to focus "soely" on DPS and doesn't like bothering to restore morale to their group, then Captain is probably not the ideal class for you. Playing hunter would make a lot more sense. Captain is more of a well-rounded class that contributes on many different levels.... as I stated in an earlier post.
