Unlocking the Master of the Guild for Premium players

When I left LOTRO about a year ago, I had 7 toons and each one was at T6 and at the highest rep level with their respective guilds. (One of each, of course!) I was VIP then.

I've been back about a month and playing as a Premium player. In order to unlock the highest guild rep level, Master of the Guild, you need to cough up 295TP.

I think I have already answered my question, but I wanted to throw it out there to make sure I'm not overlooking something.

Wouldn't it be cheaper for me to just go VIP for a month, attain my Master of the Guild rank, and then just go back to Premium at the end of 30 days? It seems that 2065TP for my guild memberships is kind of excessive and for $14.99 I will get that plus 500TP extra.

    I welcome your feedback.

The guild unlocks are for the entire account, so you only need to unlock each guild once, ever. Your way, anytime you create a new chara you would need to re-VIP in order to get them their guild levels.

    Crickhollow- Erian - Female Hunter
    Woldenskir - Dwarf Guardian
    Epigaea - Hobbit Minstrel

if you have 7 chars with that high rep in guild then of course its smarter to go VIP for month. But for people like me who got 3 chars and one of them is already highest rank cus i went VIP to get other #### like travel, bags, gold and such, the 295 is way better then 14.99$ spend on VIP. Especially when you can make new char and by doing starter zone deeds gain 500 TP in really short time ( that is if yer not lazy).

So it all depends on situation ur in. xD ( bable bable bla and so on)

    Nimdir - Warden/ Grimtor - Burglar / Asasiyun - Rune-Keeper

I guess I should have mentioned that I don't intend on making any new characters, ever. I have 8 characters. One of them is an explorer, so I have one character in each crafting guild.

In your example, it makes sense though since I can unlock all of the guilds forever for the 2065TP.

I may just wait for one of those "%off your whole cart" deals and do it that way too.

The other thing to consider. If you buy the guild's you're set in case of a new tier of guild reputation where if you just VIP you could have to reVIP to max it out come Rohan.

    Now, that's a valid point.

Since you cannot add craft guilds from the login screen you can only add 2 at the most at a time. This means you will not be able to put them all in your cart to maximize your discount.

You have to be on a character who is at expert or above in the associated profession to purchase.

I suspect this is being new but I am totally confused.

You can't get to max rep in a craft guild by making the rep items daily?

You have to buy something for tp?

    color me clueless

You can make the rep items all you want, but you can only get to acquaintance level with the guild without paying. After that, you must either pay 295 turbine points per guild or go VIP and try to max out before your subscription runs out. Personally, I'm saving a lot of rep items that I can immediately turn in once I resubscribe again, but I'm also resubscribing for deeds and virtues and whatnot on all my alts; if you were only after one or a few characters then purchasing guild access outright might be your best bet.

(edit: just noticed that post was 10 days ago and no one gave them an answer; wow this subforum is dead!)

If memory serves there was a store gating issue at the time of the post which was fixed more than a month ago now.

You can also bypass most of the gating checks by buying account wide items from your login screen instead of a specific character.

I have a friend who is a prenium Lotro player.I can't understand this greedy idea that Turbine has presented for Prenium players
This has never before in Lotro history been something that you have to pay for to be able to unlock the highest tier in any of the crafting guilds.

I should be so that once you have payed for a expansion that you also could unlock the highest tier in any crafting guilds WITHOUT having to pay extra in form of Turbine point or pay real money to become a WiP player to unlock this.

I am myself a WiP player but i must admit that i am extremely dissapointed that Turbine has become so greedy ,that they now are milking Prenium players for Turbine points or real money to unlock the highest tier in any crafting guild.

This is how it's been since the game went FTP in Sept 2010. A free-to-play or premium player has always needed to buy access to the crafting guilds to rise above expert level. This is a one time purchase per account per guild. Once purchased for a particular guild, all characters on that account can advance as far as they want in that guild (even in the future as new tiers are released). Basic advancement in a crafting profession is always free, this purchase is only for access to the crafting guild.

How important are unlocking these guild ranks and how long does it take?

I am a new premium player sitting on a boxed Moria code (which will unlock a month of VIP and two character slots). My main (26? under 30) has mostly just started his 3rd crafting tier (expert?) and joined a guild (which I thought was locked to VIP, but apparently only mostly). I noticed that crafting the one(!) expert guild recipe had a serious cool down (essentially one day) and that I couldn't expect to get even to the VIP ceiling in a month.

How high can I realistically get? My plan is to level three characters well into the lone-lands (one is already there and pouting about locked trait slots), then pop my month of VIP and make two more characters (likely rune keeper and warden) as high as they can go (ideally through Evendim, as I got the Trollshaven with the Mithril edition, but buying Evendim wouldn't kill me especially if I wanted to try another server). Everything looks simple except for the crafting guilds.

Is there a simple way to level a horde of characters high enough into the guilds to matter without buying 5 unlocks? I should have a bunch of materials to level the scholar and jeweler up quick (I guess my 3rd character will be a cook then...) but will likely hit some blocks after that. Do I need to hit master levels (and likely buy a pack to find the materials for it) before popping VIP and will it be worth it?

You have 8 crafting tiers, and 6 'tiers' in the guild, starting from crafting tier 3.
So, the first 'tier' in the guild gives you access to guild crafting recipes in tier 3, the highest 'tier' in the guild (Supreme Guild Master) gives you guild crafting recipes in tier 8, so the higher your level in the guild is, the higher your guild recipes' tier to craft.

Assuming you have all the mats available (bought, gathered, or a combination) once the cooldowns have expired, you can go from 0 to Supreme Guild Master in less than 3 weeks, if you craft your guild reputation items every day (the ones of which the cooldowns have expired, of course).
