Starting out as a p2w warg

For quite a while I've wanted to try out a r0 warg with skills and traits, since they're supposedly just as good as a high ranked warg with the same traits and skills. I recently made a new warg on another server where I bought a set of skills and traits before doing anything else. I couldn't afford every skill and trait, but I'd say got the most important ones. After killing slugs for some gold to equip my traits (lol), I went out to pvp. I camped gv and tried to jump every solo freep that came past, staying to the end every time. Note that shadow is not in the store, so I had to use flayer, which I'm tbh isn't that familiar with :P

Before I tell about my experience, here's some SS's.

    My set up:

    First ding:

Got one death when I tried to do some HH quests for gold. Jumped by a warden (r11) right while killing the mayor :(. Also note that I got one kb ninja'd :'(

    Second ding:

(Got killed by a burg while fighting someone else 3 times. I also was ganked once when I unstealthed to something I thought was a peace event, lol)

So how was the low ranked p2w warg compared to my "real" warg? Well, to me it felt a lot weaker. I'm actually surprised audacity, passives and battle promotions makes this much of a difference. I would say, however, that it's strong enough that you're able to start 1v1'ing right away, but you'll have a really hard time dealing with well geared and played freeps. You most probably wont stand a chance at all. Against average (geared and played) freeps, you'll be able to get solo kills. I'd say that this warg is a bit more than half as good as my "real" warg (dof-buffed). I'm quite sure I'd have won some of the fights on him, where the freep won with a bit less than half his morale remaining. I suppose I should've gathered some data, but I didn't :/

Note the ridiculous amount of commendation gained to r2. I didn't use any comms, still I couldn't have afforded any skills.

Is this p2w? If you define p2w as paying for an advantage, then absolutely.

Should creeps start out with all their skills? In my opinion, of course. But I'm a weirdo that think you shouldn't gain any advantage from playing longer (grinding) at all :) Gear, skills and audacity should be free, and you could spend your time learning your class and having fun, rather than grinding for the best stuff.

Are creeps "forced" to buy skills? I'd say yes. The amount of commendations tied to each skill and trait, compared with the amount you gain, is just rediculuos. You'll simply "never" get your skills as a new creep, which is really sad. Make skills free!!!! (I guess tied to rank is what most ppl would prefer, and something I am relatively fine with)

You can just p2w all the skills, and then roflstomp everyone on your 1 day old creep! No no, you can't. You'll need comms for audacity and passives. This is a huge grind, and by the time you have descent upgrades you'd have gotten lots of your skills from ranks with the old system. Starting out with skills is a huge advantage though.

    ...

Was going to write a lot more, get to higher ranks and stuff, but I'm too tired, and I'm not sure how much I'll play on this warg. I might update this post with more pics and comments later.

You should totally do a warg walkthrough to rank 6 or something posting screenies all the way, would keep me reading . (maybe some vid's too!)

    You've done a lot of work/studying I'm impressed!

Also not sure what to think that p2w r0 wargs can start 1vs1's right away, ofc it takes skill to do well but never thought it would be possible.

pppffftt... dammit: You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Ranroth again.

I was thinking about doing that with this p2w warg, but I was also thinking about making a guide for new wargs, get to r15, make some warg vids and get rid of my lotro addiction. Can't do everything ;D

Nice. Remember to take into account the fact that you are a relatively experienced warg, rank 10. A new player would not perform like you did. Also someone who's a veteran and never played warg before will struggle more.

This has been done by this guy btw: http://theartofwarg.wordpress.com/

A bit down the page, the guy waks you through the start of a warg till rank 3 or something.

A new player starting a creep is relatively fekked unless he has good friends helping him along.

This is not true!!!! ... Remove the "unless he has good friends helping him along"-part The commendation system made it impossible to play as a new creep without the store (or serious pve'ing). That, or I'm missing something...

Yep, I did mean to include the use of the store. Starting ANY character with ANY level of experience is IMPOSSIBLE without buying all/most skills in the store.

    Nice experiment though.

    Hey Ran, hey Ian

Very interesting stuff - I rolled a warg a couple of days ago to see what creepside is like and also as I bought a gameboard and a Razer Naga mouse to completely re-train away from being a PvE clicker. So thought rolling a brand new toon would ease me into training away from clicking.

I am in Doctorwolf and Ian's Freep kin (Band of Warriors) and so Doc kindly invited me to Fatality. So it's great to see your post here Ran and you adding to the conversation Ian

First off I didn't want to spend any TP on class traits as I'm kinda opposed to P2W and thought it would be more noble to start from scratch the hard way; but after getting annoyed at my &&&& stealth movement speed when duoing with Doc I bit the bullet and bought Enhanced Sprint and Enhanced Stealth. So much for my original intentions to not buy from the store :S

You are totally right that the very high commendation prices push you to the store - I can't believe that tracking is not normally available til rank 9 or something - jeez!

Anyway having a blast either in a duo / small FS with you guys in Fatality or raiding and taking / retaking the map!

    Cheers!

P.S. My warg is called Shadowsfang
