War horse is probably not free.

Agree the prices seem too high. And the crystal in the $70 one feels pretty PTW (only available for $? Increases character Power? check).

Re: Riders of Rohan Pre Order Details

I'd like to see a little more clarification on what items will be available to purchase in the Store vs. being truly exclusive to the various packs. Right now, the pre-order site makes it sound like Mounted Combat will only be available if you buy the legendary pack. That doesn't make much sense, since it's such a heavily-touted feature of the expansion. I have to assume that "Exclusive Rohan Content" refers to a marketing version of the term "exclusive" rather than the usual meaning.

My guess is that the 6th bag, Crystal of Remembrance, and Mounted Combat will definitely be available for TP purchase, but the Legendary pack includes them with the cost of the expansion instead of requiring a separate purchase. I'd really rather not have to guess about things like that, though.

    nope.

    from the faq:
Do I have to buy the expansion to get a War-steed?
No. All players will be able to participate in mounted combat. Free players, however, do not have access to all of the War-steeds abilities (two of the three trait trees are locked) but will be able to purchase access and unlock s through the LOTRO store. Players who have purchased the Expansion will have all aspects of mounted combat unlocked immediately.
actually, since most people will probably miss the faq i'll just copy the wheole thing.
Will I be able to access the Rohan Region if I don't purchase the Rohan expansion.

    1. Yes! As with all regions in LOTRO, you can explore the region, fight monsters, and take part in the epic story for free. If you want to experience Rohan to its fullest, however, you will need to purchase Rohan to unlock all content and quests.
    2. Is the Epic Story in Rohan still free?

Absolutely. All players will be able to experience the newest chapters in the epic story for free when Rohan is launched.

    4. How do I get a War-steed?

Players are introduced to mounted combat and obtain their War-steed via a quest line that is available for free to all players.
    5. Can I fight from my existing in-game horse?

No, you will get a new steed, called a War-steed specifically built for combat. It's larger than the current in-game mounts and better able to handle the demands of combat. (It's modeled after horses like the Friesian, Andalusian or Lusitano, breeds commonly used in war).
    6. What about all those mounts I bought? Are they obsolete?

Your other mounts can still be used as travel mounts anywhere in Middle-earth, including in Rohan, but you will not be able to fight from horseback using these mounts. Also any character that is not at cap level will still need travel mounts for accelerated travel just as they do now. If you have purchased certain mounts via the LOTRO Store, you will receive a War-steed cosmetic variant that will allow you to further customize your War-steed. This includes the various class mounts and the Steed of Night.
    7. Can I have more than one War-steed?

No. Players get one War-steed that they advance and customize through the course of the mounted combat experience.
    8. I'm a Dwarf or a Hobbit. I'm tiny! What do I ride?

Your War-steed comes in pony size! Its build is still somewhat heftier than the in-game ponies so it's also more capable in battle. (This one is modeled after the Fell Pony which is a scaled down version of the Friesian).
    9. Can I use my War-steed at all outside of Rohan?

Yes, you can ride your War-steed anywhere you can currently ride horses in LOTRO but remember that fighting from horseback is only possible in the open plains of Rohan.
    10. Can I fight from horseback anywhere in Middle-earth?

No. Fighting opponents from horseback is possible only in the open plains of Rohan.
    11. Do I have to fight from horseback?

To a limited extent, yes. Many of the opponents you encounter in the plains of Rohan will be mounted and an unmounted combatant will find combat more difficult against mounted opponents. Mounted combat is likely to be incorporated into parts of the epic quest line so in the course of completing that content, you will spend a moderate amount of time fighting from horseback. There may also be some optional quests that can only be completed with the extra speed and agility you will have when riding your War-steed.
    12. Is all my combat in this expansion done from horseback?

No. Some areas (dense enemy war-camps, Fangorn, Amon Hen) and many quests will function just like they do now. While you can choose to fight opponents from an un-mounted position you will be at a disadvantage when fighting mounted opponents.
    13. Do I get new skills unique to mounted combat?

Yes, definitely! Not only will you have new and unique skills to use when fighting from combat, you'll also have horse skills that you will be able to use so that your horse can be directly involved in the fight.
    14. My War-steed can fight?

Yes! Horses can do quite a lot of damage with bites & kicks as well as other unique abilities. If you've ever seen someone get double-barrel kicked in the chest by a horse you'll fully appreciate just how much damage can be done by a War-steed!
    15. Does my War-steed level up?

Yes. Your War-steed gains steed experience in a variety of ways and as you level you earn trait points that you can spend to advance the skills and traits that best suit your play style in mounted combat.
    16. Can I use all my existing class skills during mounted combat?

Not exactly. Some of your class skills will have a mounted combat counterpart so that things that are class defining remain part of your repertoire of things you can do in combat but the skills you use when mounted are all new.
    17. Can I group in mounted combat?

Sure. Nothing stops you from grouping and it may be a very wise move to coordinate an attack on a Warband with other players.
    18. Is there a level requirement?

Yes. You must be at least level 75 in order to pick up the quest that will earn you your War-steed.

There is a handy FAQ "hidden" at the bottom of the pre-order info page. It answers some of the questions people are asking.

Overall, I think it looks great. Rather expensive on the top end, but some really nice bonuses. The concept art is truly stunning.

That's unfortunate. With previous tiered xpacs, the top tier received everything in the lower ones plus more. These cloaks and the lack of quest packs in the legendary edition are a serious negative.

Based on 6 years of following Turbine marketing and product releases, trust me when I say that you will NOT hear about or have access to other means to acquire these items until after RoR is released. They want to have as many people prepurchase with cash as they can. Telling you that you'll be able to buy these things later on with TP would undermine that.

So there is different cosmetic items depending on whether you order the heroic or legendary items? Which is the heroic cosmetic and which is the legendary? I looked at the images but it doesn't indicate which cosmetic belongs to each pre order. Legendary doesn't include both? That's a bit..... I don't know, I'm confused.

Actually, that might just be the cheapest Turbine Points/Dollar ever offered. I'll take that offer.
Edit: Gosh darn it forgot about the taxes.
So that comes out to about 65 U.S. cents/100 TP.

if you mouse over the items in the compare thing it looks like the legendary edition comes with the full set of cosmetic armour, and the heroic only has the chest piece from that set.

Oh ok. I'm on the iPad so maybe that's why I can't see it.

Still, I have to say, this is pretty shocking to me. That's quite a price tag for bonuses that are a bit, lacking?

Thanks to Crell for being on top of this and posting the info so quickly, to Nakiami for posting the new cloak image and stats, and to Celestrata for staying up past her bedtime to answer questions.

Per Celestrata, the Crystal of Remembrance will be issued immediately upon pre-order. Will the crystal need to be used on a current Level 75 LI, or can it be saved to be used when we get a L85 LI?

The high-end package is clearly the most attractive and comes with some nice stuff, but I'm wondering if it isn't a little too pricey considering the current state of the world economy. I guess Turbine (and we, eventually) will find out.

I'm just sad that they don't have a version that includes all the previous expansions like the RoI legendary edition had. I just convinced my friend to become VIP for 3 months and told him how the pre-orders were about to be announced and how he'd surely be able to pick up all the expansions in one package and get a great deal. Now I'm trying to figure out what to recommend to him instead. "Wait and see" probably.

No thank you. I hate forced game-play.

Furthermore, what was given in RoI, as far as pre-purchase items, was worth the extra few bucks. But now it's costing more money and we're actually getting less. Plus I am sure most, if not all, of the items that are available for pre-purchase will be sold in the store after RoR releases.

6th bag? Haven't needed one since 2007, don't see a need to get one now.

Soldier Landscape Appearance? What a joke. I don't even use a soldier on the landscape.

Outriders Token? If there was a different slot for it, it might be worth it, but giving up a pocket space for something that gives you +25% XP only on monster kills is a waste of space.

Crystal of Remembrance? Yay...more Pay to Win. And I'm guessing this, and more, will be available in the store as well. Of course it will be a "very rare drop", I am sure, so Turbine can say it's not selling advantage.

    And, finally...

    Exclusive Rohan Content
Discover the lineage of the great War-steeds and earn a mounted combat deed that grants an exclusive skill for your War-steed
Again, more Pay to Win. A skill that's only available if I pay for it.

And, seriously, mounted combat is the biggest thing Turbine is pushing in this expansion, yet it's "only possible in the open plains of Rohan."

The players need to step back and think about this purchase. RoR looks all good and what not, but with all the bugs and server failures over the last few months is even the basic $40 edition worth it?

Q: During out mounted combat is out steed gonna freeze up and we cant not move like all the other times we are on steeds?
Q: While people are questing up to 85 are all the rewards going to be in the selection or do we have to wait several weeks for them to be put into the game?

Droping $70 on a download only is crazy esp when most of the "special" items only go up to 75. Why 75 when we have to level to 85?

I mean today for several hours no one could log into the game and the devs gave no reason to why or what happened, are the servers gonna be stable enough with lag for the population to all have a new bag with more storage?

Re: Riders of Rohan Pre Order Details

Thanks for posting the FAQ MajUntagent, I completely missed that.

Turbine: *Sigh* $70 for an expansion with no TP OR 'Legendary includes all bonuses from the lower tiered expansions.'? Really? I bought into the presale of Isen but only for one cosmetic item because 3 Barbie and Ken doll outfits in different colors is a very poor excuse for charging more money (and I like playing Barbie and Ken dress-up-time in MMOs). $70 for an expansion? Really?

At least I can vocalize in GLFF that no one should buy your current $70 offer until you change the terms of the offer. That is if the login server does not keep kicking me out every few minutes. In the year 2022 I can see $70 dollars for an expansion that makes fanboys shriek with joy, but this is 2012 which means $50 max for a joy-inducing expansion. With all that said, I would shriek a small squeal if you added 5000TP to the $70 expansion.

Depends. If it gives you a special certain death "behead" skill, then sure. If the skill is a horse emote like rearing and kicking, for example, or a Mario-Kart-style trick on jumps, then it doesn't bother me a bit. Anything in between: Magic 8-ball says "Ask again later."

Yes, remove a function of the game, see if people forget about it and reintroduce it as exclusive content. i.e. TP= Pay to win! Yay!

Those pre-order prices were a nice wake-up this morning. Who needs coffee when there are T-forums

Probably, so they could turn around and charge us for it.

that one was at least balanced by removing the 5 legacy items at the same time though. i've still got an old 7 legacy first age rune i use for tanking on my champ, it's crazy how much better it makes the item having an extra legacy. bad news for (the lack of) pvp balance, but then i'm expecting most of the pvpers to head to gw2 anyway.

Is the Crystal of Remembrance in the game now?

Disappointing news to wake up to. Not going to spend 70 bucks on this. Despite area size, despite much-touted mounted combat, the bonus features don't seem worth it.

Time to start yet another grinding alt so it'll be possible to unlock those War Steed skills by the time ROR launches. *sigh*

After 5 years of playing this will be the first expac that I wont be pre-ordering, its not worth it imo. Nothing I have read about this expac excites me at all.

When it launches, I'll get the base edition. Of all the "extra's" on offer the bag would be welcomed but for $70 forget it. I have managed to do without for this long, but if the price is right I may buy it in the store when it becomes available.

And we have no information on instance clusters, raids, trait or virtue increases whether it be by level or an increase in slots. No news on new skirmish's (unless I missed it somewhere) other than what I am assuming is "some" grouping content with the Roving Warbands...

I'm waiting to see, because this is starting to feel like RoI all over again.

I'm not paying even $40 for something that has 0 endgame content where I'll be bored all over again a month after release.

And I am seriously astonished that you guys would make the same mistake two expansions in a row and not tell people how much the expansion is going to be for purchase in the Turbine Store using Turbine points. This just blows my mind. Granted if I pay for this, it will not be with Turbine points, but I know some people will. Hope ya got ya answers ready.

$40 for the basic edition seems quite pricey to me. $70 for the only version that adds the sixth bag and exclusive mounted skill? The price points seem way too high; unless it was a physical version with collectables. I've pre-ordered every single expansion in LOTRO to date, but there's nothing that makes me want to do so now. If anything, my interest for this expansion has waned significantly just by seeing the price of admission.

    Heya all,

when I tried to pre-order RoR, it looks like I *must* create a new account??
Can someone elaborate on this PLEASE?

    -----

how can I purchase RoR without opening a new account??
I want to link it (obviously) to my existing account.

Re: Riders of Rohan Pre Order Details

I'm not going to comment on the pre-order features because I'm sure we'll find out more details about them in the next few days. Although, I must say, $70 for an expansion is ridiculous. Tera Online Collector's Edition was $79 for pre-order and that was a full sized game, not an expansion. I'm hoping that the "Legendary Edition" pricing was a mistake on someone's part, like how the pre-order page says the expansion is nearly three times the size of Moria but the "Rohand Region" under "Features" says the expansion is nearly twice the size of Moria, which one is it????

Ever since the conversion to F2P, Turbine has been telling us how much money that changeover has brought in. How they would be reinvesting that money back into LOTRO to craft a better game for us, the players. Now, they have the chance to prove it. This is the first expansion that is supposed to be benefitting from all that influx of cash. That being said, the images and videos I'm seeing on the pre-order pages make me a little concerned. It's not that they look terrible but they just seem so hurried and lacking in quality. I'm afraid that the expansion is going to be the same. I know they just put up the pre-order site, so maybe I'm overreacting.

Turbine, I've enjoyed your game immensely since it first launched. Unfortunately, I did not find out about it in time to be part of beta. This is a golden opportunity to really deliver a stunning expansion. To show off your creativity and force your detractors to eat crow. I beg you as a fan, please, please, please don't squander this chance. Because, if you do, I don't think your customers will give you another one.

P.S. - Please reconsider shooting a new trailer for RoR. The one you have right now is not very good; bad acting and ill-fitting costumes do not make for interesting advertisements.

I thought it was awesome. I haven't laughed that hard in a very long time. I'm glad they spent good money on something as useless as that video, instead of paying people to fix bugs that have been around since the last expansion.

Re: Riders of Rohan Pre Order Details

Count me in on many of the points previously stated; specifically:

*$40 is hefty for a base-level expansion with absolutely no perks. $70 is completely out of my league. A 6th bag would be SOOOOOOOO nice but I'm not paying $30 for it. This is especially bad because I've been trying to save up $70 to buy GW2. You know, the *whole game* of GW2, which is FREE to play, always.

*If it had TP, I would seriously consider the middle level. It would have to be a lot of TP (like, we're talking 5k) for me to consider the top-level one. Even then... money doesn't grow on trees. I'm having to make decisions here on where to spend my money. When I'm barely logging in to LOTRO because my kinship has been decimated by people leaving for other games, for a multitude of reasons... I want to buy all the shiny LOTRO things (buy ALL the things!) but I have to step back and ask myself if it's really worth it when I look at the games I have available to login to and don't automatically pick LOTRO every time anymore.

*Oh and $70 AND it doesn't include all previous expansions to date. I would be in the same position as Zelxyb - I was considering telling my brother to come back to the game and go VIP for a little while, and he'd be able to pick up the expansions. I opted against it because my kinship started disappearing 12 months ago... now I'm glad.

*Mandatory mounted combat. What if I don't like it? I don't like, and am not so great at, learning new ways to play. I am very set in my playstyle. Jury's out on that.

*I still have time left on the free one hour of soldier on landscape that I acquired with some something or other several months ago. I actually really like the Rohan soldier appearance, but I don't want to spend TP on increasing my available time, so I've been saving it for dire emergencies. I'd rather ask my husband to log in and help me out. That is, if he can get to where I am, because he hasn't played much in the past 6 months and has never even been in the RoI areas.

*I hate that I won't be able to use my current horse "skins". I have just gotten some really beautiful ones (dusk-watch, treasure-laden) and they are going to be completely obsolete. It's hard enough deciding among the ones I have, which one to display (aka ride). On the up side, I do REALLY like the ones I saw except the turquoise one (my favorite is the one with the chain mail). I wish they were labeled in the horse-group image.

*The black and copper armor on the elf warden (bottom left of the images page; he's at right in the image, raising a spear in his hand) - is that light armor? Probably not since he's a warden, but my first response to seeing that image went like "OMGOMGOMGOMG they made light armor that isn't ugly!?!" I also love the plate armor that is seen on an elf doing the "look" emote. Beautiful.

*Noticed that the spider models appear to be the same as always, with new skins. Would be nice to see a few new creature models.

Just told my husband about the pricing and he laughed and responded "crack smokers!"
