Thread: Shared gold balance between alts in the same server

I thought that once the alts already can mail money to each other to support each others' growth and have a shared storage and a shared personal house, why not take one step further and share the gold balance between alts in the same server as well?

It wouldn't really change anything, except making the already existing things more quick and easy in transfer.

There would be one side effect that some players would not like. Your Gold would become account bound at the server level. If you transfer a character to a different server, the character would arrive with no Gold.

Not that you said it... yeah, true. Unless each leaving character gets his/her share. For example, with three characters one character in the server one gets one third of the money, and so on. But I would prefer to have a certain amount transferred instead.

I guess I ignored that side because I just migrated and I'm not planning to do that any time soon...

Maybe opt in and out of this feature would be reasonable?

Except the game does not work this way. When Turbine offered us the expanded Premium Wallet. Each of us had to decide if we wanted it bad enough to have a number of the barter currency items transferred into the server wallet.

Our choices were:

1) Continue carrying all this stuff around on our characters. Or storing them in shared storage or your personal vault.

2) Pay for the Premium wallet. In doing so bind all this stuff to the server wallet.

Some people did not read the fine (mouse) print on the contract they were signing. Later on, started hopping around. I've been screwed.

It agree it would be nice to have more flexibility. More flexibility increases Turbine costs. Turbine is not willing to spend the dollars and resources for a more robust and complicated wallet. One obvious choice is to leave the personal gold wallet in place. Create a server bound wallet that everyone shares. You have to decide which one to use to pay.

While I can understand why some people might want their entire "bank account" available to all characters without having to mail money back and forth, I have a little bit of a different reason for not wanting this option myself. (Although, IF it were ever implemented with an "opt in" option of some kind, I'd be all for it.)

I have a really bad time with gold. I learned the hard way on another MMO that if I let my main characters have too much gold on them, I have this horrible habit of spending it all on the auction house, or at vendors, or being lazy buying crafting items rather than looking for them. So, now, I designate one of my low level alts that I rarely play as my personal banker, and send them all my gold, so that when I have a real NEED for something, I have the money to get it, as well as having the money for my housing costs.

It's probably a little bit of a silly problem to have, but in games I'm such a spendthrift that this was the only way I could keep any gold at all.

No, I don't want this.

What one of my character earns should not be seen or spent by another character.

People asked for this quite a few times and there are always 2 opinions.

I personally would like this but I can understand people who want to keep their money separated.


Here's an alternative: The shared bank account should also be able to hold money.
Charakters can deposit or withdraw money as they like.

That why I always suggested a Saving account, shared money bag. Basicly it has a feature where you can Add money like Shared Storage. That you put money in and your alts can use it. But it will Not Pool your Gold into one Account.

If this were ever proposed by Turbine as a possibility, I could agree to it. It seems the best way to get both types of people what we want.

Agree.

Not only does it give people the option to have server based gold or character based gold, they can even have a mix of the two on the same account. If they're planning on moving all their alts to another server, they can even withdraw all the gold to one character, leaving nothing tied to the server. This seems like the ideal solution.
