I have Windows 8 Release Preview with AMD's Certified Drivers installed and working. Lotro installs fine no errors starts fine no errors and updates the Program just fine with no errors BUT it just sits after that. The loader will not move past it too update game data. There is nothing from Turbineloader.exe or Turbineinvoker.exe. I mean none there is not one thing that tells me what is going on here. I have also gone through the steps in the post on support about this issue with no luck. Please Turbine the OS with the largest market share in the world and happens to carry your backbone is being updated to Release Preview and we need a statement. If anyone has a working native lotro install within Windows 8 Release Preview and AMD WHC drivers please here.
Windows 8 won't have significant market share until at least the end of this year, and maybe not for a full year. I'm sure LOTRO will eventually be tested and supported for Windows 8, but I seriously doubt that will happen short term. After all, it took all the way until last fall before Windows 7 finally knocked Windows XP off the top spot... new releases gather momentum rather slowly. The primary pressure to support it will come from people with brand new PCs that ship with Windows 8 - they'll be few at first, but rather loud .
If it happens to "just work", great (although your experience doesn't sound too hopeful). I can't see them making Windows 8 as an officially supported OS a priority for awhile yet, though... early adoption is often pretty painful between missing drivers, driver bugs, and the usual assortment of Windows bugs that get fixed in the first Service Pack.

It isn't just Windows 8. Launcher problems have been around for a while. They are even detailed in the sticky at the top of the page.
- “My Launcher gets stuck on 'Examine Programs' or 'Update Programs' or gets stuck on 'Examine Game Data' or 'Update Game Data'."
SYMPTOMS: The game launcher gets to the “Examine Programs”/"Update Programs" step or “Examine Game Data”/"Update Game Data" and stops there.
SOLUTION: This typically can have a few causes, and depending on which stage it gets stuck on can help determine the cause. The "Examine" steps are when the launcher is trying to compare the files you have versus what ones are the current and determine if you need to patch. Getting stuck there is generally connection related where as if it is getting stuck at an "Update" stage while that can be connection based as well (if the launcher cannot connect to download the patched files) it can also be permissions related since the game launcher needs "administrator" level access to be able to update files, in that instance see the link here for more info on the common causes of patching issues. http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.p...34#post4303034

Even Windows 7 is not technically supported according to the current minimum or recommended system requirements. Windows 8 may never be at this rate.
As to the op, there was a windows 8 thread over in general forums titled something like "Will LOtRO support windows 8" or something like that where people were saying they had a working client on the Windows 8 OS. If you can find it you can try to PM a few people for advice or such.
Curiously, the evolution of the internet seems inversely proportional to the evolution of man.
