Books 12-14 era was the golden age of LOTRO PvMP. Balance between factions was the closest ever and you could field 2 raids each side within the same area without having lags at unplayable level.
Too bad devs totally lost it with MoM and never recovered.

That video represents the best times I ever had in this game. I can recall HUGE battles at lunchtime between EC and LC, TR HS and the TR SW HS - far, far off from primetime, when sometimes we had 2 raids of freeps and creeps in and around the keeps that we fought over. The best times. For serious.
I realized watching that, that the owners of the content of this game (can't recall the name now), didn't even want PvP in this game. Perhaps it's not the developers/WB/Turbine to blame, but the restrictions over how the content appears in the Lotro MMO that are to blame.
At any rate, to this day no video comes close to capturing the fun we had back then. I really looked forward to logging in.
(but - no, it was not balanced back then...not by a long shot. The balance is way better today IMO but the game just isn't played like that anymore.)

Balance is not right theses days, not by a long shot. But I think what made the past days better was the way the players approached the moors. We had hope for the future of the moors, a hope dashed time and again by the powers that be.
What we have now is a shadow of what once was. And really, in looking around I could not say who is and is not to blame. But I can say with certainty that had we had a company that really saw the potential of Lotro PVP, things may have been a lot better right now.

I for some reason enjoyed getting 4 reknown per kill on my level 42 captain back in July of 2007, and wiping raids because I didn't know what "passive" was in regards to pets.
Good times, back in the day. But yeah, it was totally unbalanced. I remember when a LM would root, and we'd just pick them off one by one. Talk about unfair. Sitting in a root reading yourself the last rights.

Oh, nostalgia. I miss fence-less EC/OC, hotspots, and even that hideous tree cloak. Now you're almost encouraged to huddle in closed "safe" places.

I think he made this during the gramscamp days when the freeps were all trying to get the new armor. Was insane how many freeps came online for that for such a long time. Creeps were totally boned until someone would log on who would lead and push the freeps out.
The feel of combat was definitely at it's best at the L50 cap. MoM borked up a lot of the math and led down a path of combat feeling clunky and weird.
