Part of Tolkien's lore is open to interpretation anyway, and other parts of Silmarillion don't always tell all the details he made. To find them out, you would have to get Unfinished Tales and History of Middle-Earth in your hands and read them through as well. Or just read the wiki / encyclopedia sites, though they can have errors in them, as I have noticed.
All the fanfics and fan art aren't good and some are just plain awful (shipping, Mary Sues etc), but there are also very good artists and fanfic authors who have really done their research. They're allowed to do their original things with the stories, but if they are planning to make a living out of those creations, they should ask permissions or instructions from the Estate. Simply put, that's where the line goes, or that's how I have understood it. Even Tengwar (elvish script) is protected that way.
I guess the Estate just wants to protect Tolkien's own views about the use of his work - "what would the author have done"? It was originally based on such thing, I think.
This game that this thread talks about doesn't even look like very canonical thing. It could be compared more to the silly fun that one might have with the plastic action figures.

'There now the numbers of Eldar increase,' Voronwë said, 'for ever more flee thither of either kin from the fear of Morgoth, weary of war.'

And then the thing with the rep. It is ment to be the way that every user can give you neg or pos rep in the way he sees it right. If anyone you are abusing the system by giving someone counterbalance rep. This is called manipulating. I have no time to explain this right now to you in detail, but I beg you to use your brain and try to understand this, okay?
No. Just...no. Negative rep is intended for people who are trolling, flaming, name-calling and breaking the forum rules. You are NOT supposed to give negative reputation to people who post opinions that are contrary to your own. If one does so, then THAT is abusing the rep system. And FYI, not "everybody" can give negative rep. You need a huge chunk of positive reputation (1500 points, I think) before you can hand negative rep out.
I think you've nailed it, there. It's just like that: whacking action figures together and making 'kapow' noises
Childhood flashbacks!
