Well, I have one of each class! But for my first, way back in 2007, this was my first MMO, and the first RPG I'd ever really played seriously with a customizable character selection. So I was pretty excited! I chose Lore-Master because I wanted to be a wise and powerful elf like Galadriel or Elrond.
For my second character I chose a hobbit burglar, because I admire Bilbo so.
I picked a hunter because #1 - who honestly didn't want to be Legolas, at least for a minute? #2 - I came over here after a year of playing WoW and I played a hunter there as well, and #3 - I have this thing for archery :P
I didn't want to be short and I'm already a human in real life (although some of my friends might argue that point) so, elf it was.
I didn't know the first thing about hunters in this game so when I started getting ports (sorry, I know that's not the correct term but it's force of habit) I was like "heyyyyyyyyy, sweet!". So I stuck with it and it's become my main. Next in line is my RK.
My first ever toon was a mini. I had NO MMO experience at all. I asked the person who introduced me to the game what each class did and when he said minis healed, somewhere in my head I thought sweet I won't die!
Now I have a toon of each class, and can't decide what my favorite is. ^.^
I started with Captain because it had a variety of several things plus I get my own personal friend in the Herald who can be customized a bit. Captain seems like a warrior-cleric in other games I played.
My alt is a Hobbit Burglar because I saw Man Burglar was recommended and I wanted a challenge plus there were not many Burgs around. Sadly I never seem to be able to get a low level fellowship going to try some early practice with easy FMs (2s and 3s).

Soldiers of Gondor - Kin
I started out with an elf hunter five years ago. I had been following the progress of the game and thought hunter would be fun. And it was for the first year.
After that, I decided to roll a guardian as it was one of the wanted classes. It was then that I found out that I liked melee classes more and tanking ones the best. I did many instances with my guardian and was very appreciated in groups.
My third character turned out to be a minstrel. I had heard about the complaints and wanted to try the class myself. This turned out to be not the class for me. Not because I was not capable, but the healing couldn't keep my attention for to long. I did find out one thing though: Hobbits rule!
I then rolled a warden as it was a tanking class and guardian actually becomming a little to easy. I was pleasently surprised and found the challange I was looking for. It became my new main character.
I have since also rolled a lore-master and burglar. The first I find enjoyable and the burglar I haven't played enough to make up mind about. I did find I most enjoy tanking, like to do some ranged DPS from time to time, find support with a lore-master enjoyable and can be prodded into healing but will not be very efficient at it.
And all my characters are hobbits, apart from the lore-master. *Wants a hobbit lore-master badly*
A couple of friends and me used to play D&D tabletop. In one particular long campaign (nearly 2 years) I played a man
(half dragon, long story ) called Kingsley Damper, son of a king with two old swords that became stronger the longer he fought with them. So when Lotro became free2play I decided to try it out and found that the champion was nearly the same kind of class I used to play. I named him Damper because it sounded similar to Strider (and I didn't know then that one could choose a surname). When I got my first legendary sword I named that Kingsley's Heirloom, in honour of my old char and his swords in D&D.
One of my friends from that old group joined me after a while and we've been questing ever since! The best thing is that we finally convinced our old dungeonmaster to join us, so our old group is nearly complete
After the champion I rolled a guardian and an RK, love 'm both but Damper is still my main.
I went Hunter because I was used to more of a ghetto support/jack of all trades role in EQ as a Beastlord. I wanted to stand back, keep an on the action, and make thing go "boom".
I grew more disillusioned the role of the hunter to the point I just gave up running her. Sad, too, because she's my first toon in this game -- started in Open Beta -- and I've never neglected her. She sits at 71 and a tad forlorn.
OTOH, I've been running a Man Burg that I created as storage space/tinker and having a blast. Yes, Burg has suffered from questionable dev decisions, but I really enjoy the class a lot. And, I went man rather than Hobbit just because I see so many Hobbit burgs and we're th eonly two races that can pick the class.
I have always love ranged characters, played one in every game I've played that had one. So it made sense that way back in beta I started Lotro with a Hunter. I'm not a fan of the close-combat direction Hunter has taken over the years, but it's still the primary bow class, hence my favorite class. Porting was a nice extra, but not why I chose it. I started with an Elf due to lore, and because I enjoyed playing elves in other games. Eventually, for fun and to see the changes to the reworked areas of the game, I rolled a Hobbit hunter. For reasons too numerous to mention, I now prefer to play the Hobbit.
Over time I've rolled one of each class. RK breaks the lore, but I admit that it's a fun class to play, and unique in it's ability to shift gears. I'm not so enamored of support healing for long periods, but I like Minstrel and enjoy playing it from time to time. I have really come to love my Captain. She's so versatile! Closest thing to my Beastmaster from EQ and lots more fun (once she got past 45). My Warden and Burglar are equally fun for different reasons - Warden because it's a completely different challenge, Burglar for it's unique role and functions. Guardian is fun for when I want to get in an mix it up in close combat, but I'm finding I like the Warden more. Champ is the only class I don't care much for, I'm not a berserker type. But even that is fun once in awhile. I'd love to play my LM more, but it doesn't come in Hobbit.
It's not the focus of the thread, but I'd say my personal order of preference is Hunter, Captain, Warden, RK, Burglar, Guardian, Mini, LM, and Champ. One of the things I really appreciate about Lotro is how different yet similar the classes play. Because of those similarities I have been able to set up my hotkeys (using just a regular keyboard and mouse) in a way that allows me to switch back and forth between different classes while maintaining a semblance of order. Fun!
I originally started as a Hunter........but tried out a burglar, then guardian, and lastly LM.
By the time I got to LM I was deep into reading the Tolkien books.....I really started loving how complex the class was and also how I loved the Lore of Middle Earth in general and everything just kind of fell into place. The more I played my LM and deeper I got into the Tolkien books the less my other characters appealed to me until all I wanted to do was move forward with the game and not replay it a bunch of times with a different class.
So that is why I stuck with LM...the other three are just crafting alts now
I chose my class by playing every class to about level 20 and then sticking with a few I like until level 30, then picking Burg as my main and go to class.
The first character I ever had, though, was a hunter and I leveled him first to 65 (the cap at that time). I chose the hunter because I thought it would fit my ranged nuker playstyle. I'm a danger boy at heart.
BUT, I needed a character that people would take seriously and let into their precious raid groups, so dear old Hunter has been shipped away forever, I fear.
I settled on Burg because it has solo and group viability at any level. It's complex enough to require strategy, but still can be a masher when my brain is tired. Stealth is cool too. I also enjoy the fact that 2 out of the 3 trait lines are viable, with the third being situationally useful. One thing that surprized me about the Burglar is how hard it is to kill! With the right virtues and gear, I'm pretty solidly built.
The very first class I made was a dwarf champion; I liked the idea of running into battle and beating on your enemies. I got all the way through the intro and absolutely NEEDED to play a Hobbit. So I deleted that guy and made a Hobbit instead. Unfortunately Hobbits can't be champs so I tried to pick the next best thing and chose Guardian. Only realized a bit afterwards that they aren't the same at all.
When I started I didn't just "pick one class." I tried them all and then ... well, I continued to play them all I never saw the point of playing only one class. They're all fun.
Also, I like crafting. By having multiple characters I can have access to all the crafted items whatever they are, and I can gather what ever I need. I don't have to spend a single copper in the auction house that way, and can vendor away what I don't use.

I started out with a Hobbit Burglar because I love The Hobbit and Bilbo, but I very quickly realised I didn't like it either in looks or mechanics. I had another idea of a 2-handed-sword-wielding elf maiden so I made up a Guardian and found that much more to my liking. She was my main for a long time before I got alt-itis. She's still my favourite but I've learned to love the Burglar now, too, especially with the Extravagant Festival Robe and Hat, which makes him look like the Artful Dodger, only less shaby. It's all style, no substance with me, I admit.
Minstrels - we scream, things die, we sing, things die, we rock it out jazz style on a horn, things die. I mean, come on, who wouldn't want a yelling, screaming, musician of death?
Or, we can soothe your wounds with the dulcet sounds of the lute and harp, our athems merrily increasing your tact mit, your vitality, or our healing, depending on the case. We can be such gentle souls, you know...
(Okay, so THE REAL story now that we're done with my drivel, my original main was a champ, our kin needed healers, I said screw it and rolled a mini and fell in love. My champ is now a crafting toon, and I have a 75 rk who raids too, but my mini is my main and my first MMO toon love.)
I picked my class because the darned game client won't let me proceed to play the game if I didn't. Seriously, though, I chose a Hunter at first since I liked the idea of finishing off monsters at a distance while your character leisurely stood a mile away.
I picked Minstrel in part due to my IRL music background, but mostly because I have an odd tendency toward healers. Might be a subconscious desire to appear non-threatening, or possibly the convenience of being able to heal myself frequently when I get into trouble. Which is all the time.
Bobo was the mechanical owl from Clash of the Titans I thought......or was it's name something else?
I love the part in the remake where he picks it up and he's like "what's this?".....and the other guy is like......"just leave it"....and that is the last you see of it HAHAHAHA
My first was Man Hunter from Dale . I picked it because I like the Ranger (lotr rangers) style of being a secretive loner who can live in the wild, but is really there to defend the people of middle earth from unseen dangers. The location choice was from me thinking most people will pick Gondor and/or Rohan, Bree sounds a bit boring, so I'll go with the Home of Bard. Which worked out even more with the Archer style class .
Since I've created and leveled, to a certain point, all of the classes. Hunter is still my main and usually the first to jump into the fray of new areas.

Bubo, I believe, though I've seen neither the original film nor the remake. (The scientific name of the Eurasian Eagle-Owl, incidentally, is Bubo bubo.)

This, exactly - and it was my first character, which is still active. I picked five other classes afterwards, though, of which a lore-master / scholar has now my main. Probably because he symbolizes my love for Tolkien's work.
Prior to LoTRO I'd always played spell-slingers. So naturally I created a Loremaster. The class wasn't exactly what I had in mind or expected it to be. I played the class for a few lvls and scrapped it.
I opted for survivability and at the time back when Founders launched 2 weeks before the unwashed masses Guardian was the only class that fit the bill. As I had always played humans, Race of Man was the easy race choise.
My Guardian is still my main and the character I play most and enjoy most but I've fleshed out my stable some since then. I have a hobbit burglar, dwarf runekeeper, human LM, human Capt., 2 more human GRD crafters, and 2 human GRD mules.
I have no elf characters, got no time for tree hugging. Got no Hunter, Bowboy I aint. Was sorely tempted to build a champ but there are almost as many Champs as there are Hunters. No Warden, I don't need Stickboy playing Gumby with the mobs, I have a GRD to tank anything that needs tanking.

I wanted a class that did damage and heal at the same time with a mage-feel to it, I tried minni, did not really liked it so then I tried RK, and I loved it
I chose hunter because it fits my personality. I am not the normal pew pew type but those are just champions who got lost during character creation. I have found with this game though that I enjoy playing all of the classes. I play them all but champion.
